Let me clarify on the EQ suckage statement. It didn't suck at first. It was awesome and groundbreaking I suppose. But it started to suck....through...attrition or something due to other MMORPG's coming out over time. |

I would like to take the time to officially announce my retirement from this thread and all future threads about this subject. I feel as if I've debated this to death and I can do it no more. It's just so tired and played out this point. I mean, what more can really be said that hasn't already been said at this board? A lot of people say it was justified and a lot more say it wasn't. Either way, it happened. If we do in fact get a new president in the states, it'll be interesting to see how he goes about the rest of this project. Anyway, have fun you guys. I'm out. They never took photos at or near the Van Allen belts. They weren't in the radiaton zone very long. According to this. "Within these belts are particles capable of penetrating ~1g/cm2 (2) of shielding (1 millimeter of lead)." How does 1mm = 6 feet? And the amount of time the astronauts spent passing through these belts was so minimal that any exposure to this was very short-lived and not long enough for large amounts of radiation to pass into the saturn rocket. |

Hmm, is it just me or did Colleen insinuate that Christie (along with the rest of us) is corrupt? For shame! It's ok Christie, we still like you even if Colleen doesn't. (He called you corrupt.) |

All I have to do is get a red GBA SP then go down to the Red Cross and get a free sticker. Whamo! I got one. Unless this one has a knife, corkscrew, file, and other accessories that come out the side. |

All hard core punk rock music fans say that once a band gets on MTV they have sold out. They don't care if the band actually has good music - they just won't listen to it. This is whats happening with Linux and Windows. People think that Windows actually sucks. There are a lot of people that know very little about Linux/Unix/BSD that say "Gooo Linux! Window Sucks" Linux more stable? Not really. Windows Server 2003 can reach uptimes of 100+ days. Security wise? How secure do you think Linux noobs (which is probably about 90% of you) can make it? More advanced? That's the funniest thing I've heard in quite some time. In a performance test, Windows Server 2003 beat the living hell out of Redhat doing 60 to 95% faster. Left it in the dust. As for bugs and faulty coding? If Linux was more mainstream, I guaruntee you more bugs and security holes would be found to give Windows a serious run for its money. "Legion have you tried out Linux at all?" No, I just like to assume on my own without actualling trying it out. Of course I have. If you mess up a setting in Linux, you might find the your whole OS is fucked and wont boot. No way to fix it. But with windows, each setting is fixable and a five letter string doesn't have the potential of crashing your comp. When you secure a system, you try to shut down things that you're not going to be using and try to make things you are going to use as secure as possible. Most people are under the impression that Linux is secure by default. Not true. And what's with all of these Linux distributions that give you 15 text editors and tons of GUI's? That's another problem with Linux. There's just too much of everything. If the KDE and GNHIP joined up and made on gui for X11 it would be so much better. As it stands now, things are too hard to configure. Why look at text files all day and why have a gui application with a text based configuration? It's pointless I tell you. Windows 2003 is a lot more stable. The background services that crash the OS have been turned off by default leaving only the services you need turned on which is the complete opposite of Windows 2000 where everything was on by default. Linux also has a bad directory management. Microsoft's Acitve Directory is far superior to ANYTHING Linux has. And Linux is also known for it's shitty sound card support. Something Windows mastered lonnnng ago. "I've had more problems with XP with my hardware than Linux EVER did." I'm sorry that you've had problems with XP but I've never had ANY major problems within the past two years of using it. Through constant usage, I've only managed to crash it once. Just once. And that was when I started a newly installed copy of WinMX. And as for freezes, only a handful of times and that's because I was putting up some serious resource requirments. And never have I seen the BSOD. Does XP even have one? Because if it does, I sure as hell wouldn't know about it. The reason people have problems with Windows is because they abuse it and don't treat it right. And you'd have to do some serious abusing I might add. People don't use virus scanning regularly (or at all), people just let spyware pile up and NEVER scan for it, people do all kinds of stupid shit on their comps like deleting system files, trying to mod them or move them, etc... XP is indeed a very stable OS. Sure it was riddled with security holes when it first came out, but that's why you should wait about 6 months before changing to a newly released OS. It gives them time to fix the major defects and iron out a lot of the bugs. Don't be fooled by what the fanboys tell you, Windows is indeed the shit. At least XP is. I can't speak for ME, heh. With each new release, Microsoft is getting better and better. XP is worlds better than ME and 2003 is worlds better than 2k. And if this whole thing bored you, then here's a little bed time reading. Linux is exploited MORE than Windows. Enjoy. (edited by Legion on 04-27-04 06:36 PM) |

The universal rule of life. No matter how bad you may have it, there's always thousands more who have it worse than you EVER will. Inevitability is being dealt bad hands in life. Sometimes more than others. But there's always something to be grateful and happy about just as there is beauty to be found in everything. I've had horrendous times in my life (just like everyone else) but each day I give thanks that it didn't turn out worse than it could have. (edited by Legion on 04-27-04 06:52 PM) |

"Our society is headed towards the point where people are hooked up to a machine that feeds them, connects their brain directly to the internet, and processes their wastes for them. And a lot of people like this thought." Aye, I couldn't agree more. And for some reason, it saddens me that I don't mind going this way myself. I've been so dependent on computers over the past couple of years it's crazy. I have absolutely NO need to go outside at all if needs be. The only reason I do is to make income. (Which obviously can be made over the internet from home.) I can pay my phone bill, my cable/internet bill, my electric bill, etc.. all online. No need to go to the store to get envelopes, stamps, and all that good stuff. I can do it all from this chair. And like I said before, I don't need to leave my house to eat. I really can't remember the last time I went out to get groceries. The only food I eat is stuff I order from restraunts to be delivered here. Any material possessions I want can easily be purchased off the internet. I'm talking about ANYTHING. I get all my gaming supplies from Gamestop (or other merchants such as them) and anything else can be gotten off of ebay. Most things you can get using the Buy It Now feature and it will still probably cost cheaper than getting it at the store so why bother leaving the house for it? I haven't written a letter using a pencil and paper in literally years. Everyone I write to has an e-mail address. And I never have to leave this chair for that either. You know, for the last part of my life, I've noticed myself becoming extremely lazy and I could never figure out why. I thought it was just nature taking it's course. But this thread has made me realize why exactly I've become this way. I'm so dependent on this little machine in front of me. If I didn't have it anymore, I would be lost. I wouldn't know where to send a check to pay my bills because I opted not to recieve statements in the mail anymore. I'd have to learn how to integrate myself into society once again. A notion I'm not so keen on. Living as a recluse has become a big and seemingly unbreakable lifestyle for me. Computers and the internet have done most of my thinking for me. It's not that I mind really, it's just that I'm so used to it now that I would probably crumble without it. Somewhat like a young child being seperated from his parents into a big city. |

To clarify on that, this is what I said referring to Al Gore (I made a mistake and said Dan Quayle but you get the point.) Me: "HE INVENTED TEH INTARWEBZ!" And his response? Him: "What is Intarwebz?" Seriously. I can't even make that shit up. Ninja AE was loads smarter than this. I know, I know, it sounds crazy but at least he could detect blatent sarcasm/lamer speak. And that's whay made my mind literally cave in. (edited by Legion on 04-27-04 07:23 PM) |

One that had accessories such as that on the side. No camping trip would be complete without it. Well, what camping trip is complete without a GBA? Hmmm, I think it looks really cool actually. I'm not Swiss, but the more I look at it, the more I want it. It's really appealing to the eyes. EDIT: Any idea on what those words say on the unit? (edited by Legion on 04-27-04 07:27 PM) |

Originally posted by Yiffy Kitten Yet I was banned for my roleplaying! But that's neither here nor there... Well, in dark times like this, it's good to have such heroes as Maddox. Let him be the guiding light. Oh, and I never bought the whole "Well, most of the users are young so they're not smart yet." Take a look at Stasis. A couple years ago he was on this board and he was one of the youngest users. But at the same time, he was also one of the smartest. Before I found out his age, I thought he was in his twenties or at least in the high teens. We're not looking for brain smarts necessarily, just a little common sense here and there. Is that too much to ask for? We keep losing good members like witeasprinwow and countless others who lost interest due to stupid users. Some of our best members rarely post anymore. I remember the golden age of the board. Those were the good old days. People knew how to have fun but it also involved a degree of cleverness to it. None of this "Oh, I drew a picture of a turtle shitting on a McDonalds hamburger wrapper! Discuss!". No, it wasn't like that at all. And people knew when to act serious and when to act crazy. There was a time and place for everything. I can't believe that I'm actually craving users like Shroomy and Doomgaze again. Me and Shroomy didn't get along at all or even see eye to eye but damn he was an interesting character to post with. The only real lamer we had was pikawil and even now he looks like a regular Einstein compared to some people here. Surely the world couldn't have gotten that stupid that fast in the course of 2-3 years could it? If so, then where are we going to be in five years? Ugh. It pains the mind to think about it. Originally posted by Jarukoth Giving people a certain amount of chances is good and all but 99% of the time, I can tell if a user is going to be permabanned eventually by looking at only a few of their posts. It's so easy to predict. Take Cthulu for example. 10 bucks and a Slurpee says he's permabanned by the end of next month. (Given he continues to post at the same rate as he is now.) And that's giving him PLENTY of time. Too rough? What would you rather have? 1000 stupid users or 10 really good ones? I'd opt for 10. And I see Foom is online. Nice to see you here Foom.
