Understood. Alright, I'm going to pick an old location in Chrono Trigger that will not be used in the project. Is there any easy way to locate and decompress certain tiles, edit them outside TF, and then insert them back into the ROM? I'm playing with the idea of a Zeal at night. |

Well, so far I've managed to have Marle wake Crono up and give him some new dialogue without problem. The minibar in his room has also been built. I'm wondering how to make Events apply to certain tiles when activated; for instance, I'd like to have the Minibar give the party 10 Tonics when activated, and his radio play the racing theme. So far, I understand how to make the actual activation command, but I'm lost on how I should make it function when the player hits the A-button while facing a certain tile. Thanks. |

I've been rolling around the concept of a 'Clean Start ROM.' What would constitute a safe, clean start? What event data can be removed completely, just leaving location data as a template for a new game? |

How's everyone doing so far, anyway? Anyone plan extensive hacks yet?

Sometimes I'll get random noise after making structural changes to the Porre Inn. Editing the windows and wall around them to be closed and darker, respectively, will corrupt the room entirely, or add a row of trees at the bottom of the screen in the black portion. What could be causing this?

I'm going to attempt to recreate the structural changes now. I'm hoping dialogue hasn't played a role in this, as I've also changed some strings around. Oh, and setting standards because you're in a position of power in a certain community? I've been there Edit: I had something to show, but I fixed it. Editing the Porre Inn's right wing to have a darker appearance made the exit inactive, but when I later went back to TF and corrected solidits, it functioned again. I'm going to fix solidity on my work in progress at the Porre Mayor's Manor on my mod ROM and see if that fixes its random noise as well. Since that's fixed... Porre is becoming a dark place, except for Layer 3 lighting. Is there a way to remove it in the current version of TF? Dang. I was editing the Porre Mayor's Manor and I kept getting "This function is only valid in a Win32 mode." I should have quit and restarted, but I saved what I had to resume work, and most of the bottom of that map is now corrupt, with random junk. Hurrah for backups. No glitches in Porre now. Is it possible to edit the music that plays when walking through townships? I'd like a dark theme to play when one enters the Porre city limits. |

Maybe later; there is talk of creating a port of Chrono Cross to the CT engine, but that's not going to happen until a long time from now. At the moment, the Compendium Spotlight Project is my vision of Chrono Break -- the story of what happened between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, and the fates of the original CT team. So it should be just as interesting.

Yeah, Dchakaros is writing a guide too. Just from examining how sprites were treated in certain locations, I've learned how to Load an NPC, give it some custom strings, walk around or do an animation. I haven't tried decisions yet though. That miscellaneous byte that's yes or no is sort of threatening.

Sorry to plague with problems, but I edited some Layer 2 tiles around Porre, and some of the buildings became vaporous, and their exits no longer functioned. Do exits/buildings require a certain tile be beneath them to work?

I've gone ahead and created pages on which I will make the Temporal Flux Guide available online, as well as a FAQ noting any questions received here or elsewhere that are still relevant to the current release version. http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Temporal_Flux_FAQ http://www.chronocompendium.cmo/Term/Temporal_Flux_Guide I finished editing the Porre Mayor's Manor, but the process of exiting 2F to 1F no longer loads a Crono once the first floor is reached. What should I be looking for as possible causes of this problem? |

Fixed. Somehow, the value had been changed from 2B to 41. My next objective is to have two Porre soldiers fight Crono in the Market for his sword. I'll use the Medina Market events to learn. I'm having a strange problem; in Crono's kitchen, I've changed Mom's dialogue and ordered the game to give Crono three items, confirm with a message, and play a sound upon the completion of her speech strings. Meanwhile, in Porre Mayor's Manor, I have several soldiers, each with their own new strings. Saving my Events in one place will eliminate the Object events in the other. For instance, the Porre Mayor's Manor will still load the party, but it will be completely vacant of soldiers or the Power Tab I added. Saving there eliminates Crono's mother from the Kitchen. Well, crap. I don't know how this happened, but now the Porre Mayor's Manor event flag = Crono's Kitchen's. I should have made a more recent backup, but it shouldn't be too hard to ressurrect the Mayor's Manor.

I'm in the process of transferring my changes from one rom to another. I believe my original was corrupt from the get-go through a few screwups and whatnot. I'll be done soon, as I do plan on creating a thread for the project once I finally iron out the plot.

Yeah, Crono's room just corrupted itself. However, I believe I can remember every step. I'm going to try and reproduce exactly what I did now. Edit: Success. Got a red screen in Crono's room. ~ Step 1: Open TF, load 4.0 mb CT Rom (downloaded from ROMNation for experimental purposes) Step 2: Change all strings in 'Years' except ?????? by +2 (for B.C., subtract 2) Step 3: Save Step 4: Add two new items beneath 2 Feathers; 232: Get-Well C 233: Pie Step 5: Save Step 6: Add these descriptions in Item Descriptions; E8: Get well soon!{null} E9: Freshly made pie{null} Step 7: Save Step 8: Paste the following Strings in Index Dialogue (0x1EE300) 01: ... Yeah, and it isn't that hard to find and download a new rom. Plus, I've succeeded in my goal of exactly mapping out the steps to corrupting Crono's room, a method that doesn't seem dangerous. My hope is in the heavy usage of Write to memory. I am, however, going to wait for an examination before I work further, as Backups any more work on the project may be nullified if this is a progressive corruption that perhaps mathematically increases with more edits to the rom. |
