For the assebly definatly start with 6502 its gonna be a bit simpler but most like 65816 I started by learning what the op-codes do but what helped the most was having another person help me who is experienced. Once you learn what the opcodes do you should go ahead and look at some of the really simple homemade roms with 'notes' in the assebly. I never did get into assebling my own roms but i then started learning how to use nes debugger and try reading what it does to the data in assembly. That would probably be best to learn asm but for C++ id start with VB or VB.NET which lots of people could help you with or if you dont mind DOS based programming try out C which is fairly simple but the same structure as C++ will use. C++ just has the stuff that'll help you easily make more graphical interfaces and such . Hope this helps and theres a list of what languages people here are willing to help with should be stickey'd im pretty sure so take a gander have fun!

XD!!!! I can't wait to get home now! I think i found that data also though I never looked into it because i wasnt sure. Ill take a look at it when I get home and help figure out how its stored if ya don't find it by then. A bit of bad news about the gfx though... seams it uses a difrent compression than in MMX which FuSoYa knew so gonna have to trot out into some more new territory

Posted on 10-28-04 01:17 AM, in Do the people at Nintendo use editors to make their games? Link
id have to say the snes did include some gfx chips with some carts which they probably used like a difrent "language" on top of their basic snes high level language *what C is to pc programmers they probably have one similar for 65-02/816* and level editors would be dumb not to write figuring most games i know of with large amounts of 'set' levels use an editor to make them though they do require the source to plug it into. Though there are those few games that randomly generate levels which would not require a level editor "DUH"

Ah room order i have an idea of where it is though dont understand it its a very wierd format its in its located at
1afa00-1b00a8 starting positions and maybe screen pos
" " screens are in wrong places in levels***********
'so jigglysaint do you know the format in which the bytes are stored like which controlls its position and what item/enemy/scroll it is?
*edit: If its any help the rooms know how you said they shift entire rows of them they are read in a matrix
t u v w x y z
x x x x x x x

tuvwxyz would be screens 1-7 in that order for the enemy data prolly hope that helps

Hmmm HMM looks pretty nice! though on your overworld the bottom bridge? that the castle is sitting on doesnt really fit all too well. But the clouds look nice. As does the ink background i like it and your other one you made. But those glass boxes as the floor is somewhat...odd and awkward maybe connect them or make them ice... or what are they supposed to be exactly..?
Overall i like it cant wait to try it

well When you import exgfx you gotta read the EXGFX THREAD IT WOULD BE HELPFUL. But the way it goes once you bypass the normal gfx and use your exgfx file you gotta go to the 16x16 arranger and thats where you can set it to act like another block *like a sement block for the log* which is tile 130

I now know both too late for that :-P plus im writing a game in Direct X so
I'll just keep on C++'n it :-P
Also, depending on how much I get into my direct X, the editor might get delayed a bit but maybe by then i will have even more data . So its a win win!
btw: Im confused at how i capitalize the i in zIp...
