They're opening a new Wal-Mart in Ohio tomorrow that caters to Amish shoppers. It features electricity free appliances, blocks of ice, and an extensive special clothing line made of special fabrics for that hip-modern Amish style... Think Im joking? http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:RryaHJ44SywJ:www.wchstv.com/newsroom/oh/news14.shtml+Amish+Wal-Mart&hl=en (sorry, only found it cached) I saw it on the local news. Why Ohio news is showing in Tennesee, I'll never know. |

By "will it ever stop?" I meant will Wal-Mart's measures taken to make more money ever stop... |
The thing I don't get, is I thought the Amish didn't use money, but rather, bartered...

DDR Mario Mix looks like it'll have the staple Mario twist to it, with items and what not during gameplay, along with minigames. But what I found strange about it is that the game is using the Extreme announcer, atleast the build they showed off did |

ITG Simfiles are no different from DDR simfiles. ITG is just Stepmania in an arcade cabinet anyways, so compatibility isn't an issue. |

Well the submission deadline has been reached, so if you wanted to get a part of the action, toooooo late! Absolutely NO entries will be received, no matter the circumstances because I extended this contest nearly a month, if you couldn't give me a good level by then, then you aren't dedicated enough to make a level for my hack! |

Always has been and always will be Pikachu for me. He's kind of weak in his attacks, but his speed and quickness of attacking lets you get in many attacks while dodging at the same time, plus his Thunder attack lets you clear out a group while taking out above would-be attackers at the same time. |
And of course, his quadruple jump makes recovering from crazy knock aways or lets you recover in spots normally not reachable by everyone else (like recovering on the bottom side of the Hyrule level after falling from the top).

1) Start by running forward and jumping on top of the first ? blocks and jump over the Venus Fire Trap. Keep running forward and jump so that you land on the middle Goomba in the double Goomba/ParaGoomba line up and use the momentum to land on the ParaGoomba and use the momentum off of that to land on the bottom ParaTroopa and use the momentum of of him to hit the top ParaTroopa and use the momentum off of it to get to the cloud area. Run forward and jump off as to land on the pile of bricks. Jump over the Red Koopa Troopa and lande between the two pipes then run for the goal. |
2) Start off by running at full speed and jump at the start of the first slope and land on the falt land, continue running and do the same for the next slope, this time landing on the pipe. Fall off the pipe and land on the Goomba and use its momentum to get to the top of the next pipe. If done right, you'll have a full P-Meter by the end of the pipe. Jump off and land on the ParaGoomba, using it's momentum to sail over the next pipe. Run under the P-Switch and Coin blocks. Jump up to hit the top Goomba on the slope and use it's momentum to sail over to the next hill. Slide down it and jump as soon as the 2nd Goomba is killed. Land on the Star containing noteblock and bounce off of it to sail over the next Venus Fire trap. Then just run up the slope and jump over the pipe, running straight down the slope for the goal. 3) Start off by jumping on the 2nd airborne platform and jump over the Boomerang brother. Use the noteblock to sail over the arrangement of bricks. Jump on top of the first line of horizontal wooden blocks. Then jump off of them to land on the first Goomba, then use that momentum to hit the ParaGoomba next door, then the same for the next ParaGoomba. Then land just short of the Boomerang brother and jump between his weapons. Then run to the white note block, knock out the red Koopa Troopa and grab it's shell while going down the platform. Then run forward full speed letting the shell fly to knock out the enemies ahead. Then run to the goal to get the secret whistle. 4) In the dungeon, run forward, jumping and get the first ? block. If running at full speed, you can run under the 2nd Roto Disc as it's rising over the floor and jump over the two pits of lava. Hit the next ? block, grab the leaf, knock out the Dry Bones. Then get a full P-Meter and fly to the hidden door for the next secret whistle. 5) Use the first whistle. 6) Use the second whistle. 7) Go to world 8. 8) On the first battleship, just let the level scroll by and be sure to enter the pipe as soon as it appears at the end. Run forward towards the Boomerang brother and whack him with your tail while charging. 9) On this level, just let the level scroll but don't go underwater and under the 3rd ship, it takes too long to jump out of the water to the ship again. Instead, just stay onboard the 3rd ship so you can enter it quickly. Fight the Boom-Boom making sure it hit it as soon as it wakes up from it's sleep position. 10) On the map, this requires just dumb luck. Charge across the 3 hand trap levels and hope for the best. 11) On this level, just let the scroll go, entering the pipe as soon as it shows up and repeat the defeat of Boom-Boom. 12) On 8-1, use the Star item you got in the first Battle Ship. Run and jump across the gap and knock out the Piranha/Venus Fire Trap Plants on them with star power. Run through the stage avoiding the enemies and use the bullet bills for moment over large areas (making sure to use your tail to keep yourself airborne. 13) On this level, go straight to the quick sand and follow it to the secret area with two pipes. Take the right pipe, since it doesn't require you to scale up a mountain to the exit pipe. On the outside, be sure to avoid the Piranha Plants and run at full speed down the hill and jump at the bottom with your full P-Meter to fly across the long gap. Go for the goal! 14) In the Dungeon, Take the door that's under the pile of blocks that create a strange "H" letter. From there, build the invisible coin bridge and go around the structure and run across and land under the Thwomp. As it goes back up, hit the column of bricks and run through when enough room is made. Run across the lava and conveyor belts. Use your tail to knock out the double column of bricks and grab the star in the ? block next to it. Run forward straight to the end. Run to under the last conveyor belt and hit the block with the P-Switch inside, activate it and run right and go into the last door. Let the P-Switch power stop and let the conveyor belt carry you to the Boom-Boom fight. 15) In the last battle ship stage, just let the auto scroll take it's run and enter the pipe as soon as it appears on the screen. Defeat the Boom-Boom on the otherside. 16) In Bower's Castle, run straight forward past the Bowser statues. Then jump the stair case and stop on the invisible rising platform. Run to the end of the passage and stop on the donut platform. When it reaches the next open area, run foward. Jump up the brick staircase avoiding the Roto Discs. At the top, go the far right and hit the invisible 1-Up block. Duck and jump under the space between the ceiling and the now visible block and let the pressure put you on the otherside of the wall. Tail wag to the nearest donut platform. Now jump across the platforms and take the high bowser door, rather than the low one. Go in and jump over the Bowser statues. Jump across the donut platforms, avoiding the Bowser flames. Go in the door and get ready to beat Bowser. Defeat Bowser using the standard run-from-his-jumps method and complete the game. I like to see someone go into more detail than that!

I'm really trying to play and enjoy this hack, but SMB3DX has spoiled me to no end. I'm so used to my physical hacks, that controlling Mario in yours is a lot harder for me to do now! Though I've played the first 4 levels and plan to play more. Your level design is really good, and for me to say that, I bet you know what that means Just don't say a word, or else! |

I looked through the code a while back and it derives the exit area by an odd routine, and it's really unpredictable what Y value will lead you where, so the only thing you can do is trial and error. |

not right off, but there is no table or addresses it reads from. It takes the Y position and does some operations on it then spits out an X,Y location on the map and a map screen. It's rather confusing how it does it, but I might, if I have time and can find it, create a small hack so that it basis the calculation off something more simple so people can edit it. |

Wrong forum kthx. *moves from emulation to rom hacking* |
Most rom hacking happens using a level editor or graphics editor. The only time you need to understand how to program is when you're dealing with a game's actual program, or, ASM. But if you're a beginner, then the first step to take is play some rom hacks, hack some over-hacked games (like SMW, SMB, Castlevania, etc) which have decent editors for them. Ok, I lied and said there would never be another demo of this hack, but everyone is showing off their stuff so it's time to whip mine out too! |
I won't bother going on about everything that's changed in this hack: read the readme and play the thing. Trust me, you'll really like what you find. The levels chosen are from world 1-3, so the difficulty may fluxuate oddly, but I told it wasn't hard at all, so this should prove to be a much more enjoyable hack than Mario Adventure. Beating the demo will yield you a new item to play with. Use Select during the a level to use this item. It has 5 uses and what it does won't be quite apparant until you've used it once then went back to the map screen and checked your inventory box. Here are some screenshots: And a few teasers not in the demo: And now the patch! This contains a lengthy readme and two patches, one of PRG 0 and PRG 1 ROMs, so use the appropriate one with your ROM!

I think the thing is is that back in "the day", most games had very limited memory as far as programming and levels went, so the best way they could keep entertainment is create a challenge, add more enemies and the like in the levels. |
Now, with more expansive technology, rather than forcing a higher challenge on a gamer, they can constantly change the situation, making the game more interesting. Old games gave you basic skills to master and tested those skills to the max throughout the entire game. However, I believe one of the best games to prove this in the NES days was SMB3, games will now give you basic skills, then force you to constantly learn new ones or use old skills in different combinations, so the difficulty never rises very high, but you don't get the repetition of the former games that give you the same thing but in a higher dose for more challenge. Even though games today may be easier, you have to wonder: do you beat them today just to say "HAH I can beat this game!" or do you beat it because it's so fun and it's got you hooked so you WANT to beat it to see what happens. Remember, harder != funner

Thanks for the compliments everyone! The cool thing about this demo is that half the stuff is even shown in the hack! The new Flames, the Snifits and other enemies aren't shown, as well as a lot of really cool levels and the hack isn't even half way done, yet! There's still a lot of surprises left in store. Though the biggest thing I worry about right now: was the demo too hard? Mario Adventure was insanely hard, and this is something I really want to try to avoid in this hack. Create lots of fun, interesting levels without the huge spike in challenge. |
