The challenge isn't changing the links; I could do that in a jiffy if I wanted to. But no other order of the links makes much sense - we tried a few before settling on the current one, and it just happens to not 'work' for those who want Send private message on the opposite side. We don't even know if the rest of the board likes it fine, just that max and knuck don't, so we're not really sure we should change it in the first place.

With very few exceptions, the easiest part of developing this board is writing code.

It would suck resources like crazy, and we already use a lot of them for the board. The Java client is really the best we can do, since it runs locally.

Problem not solved. There really ARE two rows. The second row is only visible if you're an admin. What's in the second row must therefore stay in the second row, and what's in the first row must stay in the first row.

Often I have to block a layout that simply will not load (but won't stop trying, thus making the whole page not load), but because it won't load, I can't get to the 'block layout' link!

It'd also be nice if you could hide our rank without setting it to none, so you could have a custom rank but still show the real one in your layout.

For bug fixes, it still says 'email withheld from non-staff users' even if it isn't.

Finally, someone mentioned custom themes... I think it'd be really cool to have a light blue one, kinda like my layout. Or even cooler to have one that links to a local CSS file (file:///c/acmlm.css or some such), so that you can customize it. (Or even just per-user custom board headers with HTML/Javascript enabled, as I've brought up before... It wouldn't be exploitable because nobody else could see it. )
This board has NO usable CSS hooks at all. You practically can't do even odd-row alternate styles. This will take a long time to correct all around the board, and we have the issue of first deciding what CSS hooks to use in the first place. I'm hoping that it'll come but not within, say, three months from now.

The "email withheld" thing has been solved for ages in the development copy. I'll ponder a "hide rank in title" checkbox.

knuck, what you're suggesting is that we switch to a completely different configuration with the seemingly only bit of logic being that it doesn't disrespect your muscle memory which will be retrained in a matter of months anyway. Read dan's post for the rest of what I was going to write. There's no point in repeating it, and it's what we all think. (And, anticipating a coming post, yes, it's way easier to add stuff because you don't have a hundred people with different ideas on where it should be or not, or why. Hell, besides the few bugs that were in Edit Layout, I didn't see a swarm of people bitching at it once that came, and that was a big change.)

Every guess for the "Something else" has been either way out in left field (user-defined user colors; it would be too easy to make them clash with board schemes or 'authority' colors) or too small.

Oh, and search the board by adding site:board.acmlm.org at the end of your google query.

Yes, you gave a suggestion. But it was rejected. More than once. One of these days, you'll probably learn that when people reject a suggestion of yours multiple times, it's prudent to drop it.

Heh, we can but dream.
I think board users should start reading a thread before posting.

Here's what I see when I do View Source in Firefox:

<STYLE type=text/css
<br>BODY #side{background-image:url(http://fffire.com/images/vyper-layout/sig_03.jpg); background-repeat:repeat-x; padding:0px;} #content{background-image:url(http://fffire.com/images/vyper-layout/sig_05.jpg); background-repeat:repeat-x; padding:0px;}
<br>--!></style>

You left out the ending > for <style>. Furthermore, you have a full <body> in there too. Please don't do that. Replace the <body> with <div class="viper-layout"> and make the stylesheet rules use .viper-layout #side and .viper-layout #content instead. Also, if I were you, I'd replace the inline stylesheet with a link to a stylesheet. (Upload the stylesheet, then insert <style>@import "http://fffire.com/[rest of address to stylesheet";</style>.)

Edit: Oh, and the color clashes might be because of different board schemes. Different board schemes use different light shades (white, light green, etc).

I don't often check Help / Suggestions, and editing the thread in the staff forum didn't bump it. So sue me.

Agreed: It was an unsolicited change. How many people have complained? Two.

They weren't since the start, and there are some users who DOESN't have icq, aim or go to irc. Some don't put email in the field.
And this is our problem how? If you were really friends with them, you'd probably have other means of contacting them.

Funny how in 4 years it never happened. Ok maybe it did, 1 or 2 times maybe?
It's happened in actuality around five times, and I have only been admin for three of the four years. As someone who's not an admin I thought you'd hold off those comments; you have absolutely no insight into what happens. I know we've had to hold back several IP bans just because it'd mean we'd block other users, and in many cases even staff members.

Banned users were allowed to do a few stuff at the board, now they can't even see online.php nor send PMs (the later might be on soon enough). I can see the time were a IPban will work just like a normal ban. Complete block from the board.
Such a shame, right? Users who have been banned here have been banned for a reason. Being at this board, or having access to a specific function is a privilege, not a right in any way whatsoever. The easiest way to make sure you don't lose access to any functions is to not get banned. If you disagree with this policy, you're free to leave at any time.

You got permabanned with a reason, for blatantly breaking an addenum to the rules in an announcement, and you were lucky Acmlm decided to lift the ban. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse.

Xkeeper probably holds a grudge against me because I checked some of his PMs just a few weeks ago - with a very legitimate reason, no less.

As seen here, the board was officially opened at 12:13 AM board time January 23rd 2001. It's been some great four years, and here's for another great four years, at the very least.

Happy birthday, board.

Doing *anything* with cookies is according to board policy attempted abuse. PM any admin and they'll basically say the same thing. If you think this is illogical, it's because if we were to define a policy that'd say exactly what you can't do with cookies, we could still be open to loopholes. If you think it sucks because things like these are not written down in the FAQ, you'd be right, but you'd also be looking at a very long FAQ if we were to put down every little thing. (We're working on solving that particular problem.) Again, if you were unsure, you could have PMed an admin (which you didn't).

But yes, let's drop it indeed.

"And I'll have to agree with knuck; if someone's permabanned and can't send PMs, they'll just make another account/use a proxy; I know I would." Which justifies it in the rules how? Exactly.
