That's Acmlm's task. I didn't design any of the color schemes available, and Acmlm did the majority of them, and he has the fonts and stuff needed. I'd rather have a generic link than an out of place button.

This is so cool. I've got adding choices without reloading to work. [mov] [wmv] (WMV slightly blurrier, not my fault or intention, converted by StevenRoy. MOV will probably require QuickTime. It was recorded in OS X instead of Windows because I only knew an easy and small recording tool for OS X, not because it just works in the browser shown. Actually, it works in the latest versions of all of these: OmniWeb, IE/Win, Firefox, Opera, Safari. Batteries not included. Beach BBQ Ken sold separately. Guarantee void in Tennessee. Size of disclaimer not to scale with risks of the thing shown blowing up your computer.)

I know that CrossOver Office is like Wine, only expensive. But I think I read something about CrossOver running iTunes and Wine not.

I thought that you were going to use it on Linux. So that's why I suggested it.

Another lab rat, and a useful one at that. This one's one you can currently use (as a demo), and is no movie:

Acmlm Suggest - autocompleting user names! May not function in older versions of Opera or Mac/IE. Working on it. Note that this code runs on the development database which only has 11 or so users. Just start with A and work your way through the alphabet.

ZERO code stolen from Google Suggest, if you can believe that.

And HH... Yes. I'm serious.

And that google suggest thing, I didn't know about it. Very intresting...
Yes. I figured out the Firefox problem. The problem was that I was using a framework for this kind of stuff where it goes through all sorts of hoops to make it so you wouldn't have to write so much code for each function. Firefox 1.0 (but NOT a nightly build after that, which I was using during development) simply didn't get the final "ok, I went through all that, and here's your data" call. So I wrote my own, 'lighter' framework in place, and now in addition to knowing what the hell it's doing, it can also deal with faster typing better.

Edit: A perhaps subtle but definitely noticeable improvement, sparked by a convo with Squash Monster: "hell, I might as well just make it not select anything for you (unless you wrote something that's actually in there letter by letter, screwing case sensitivity)" and now it does. (Previously, much to the dismay of Squash Monster, it selected the first suggestion automatically, which fills itself out in the text field, and should select the part it filled out, which it doesn't in some browsers.)

This tiny rejiggering, by the way, was what caused it to be out of commission for a small while. If this happened to you, try again.

It's amazing what a few days without work or dialup land can do for your activity. The longest "free" period I've had like this must be back in October or something.

Working on it. Other todos: Make it autoselect the pertinent item if only one item fits anyway. Smarter and less inclusive "weak" matches (those in italic) - for example the five closest with soundex or levenshtein?
