I think Jesper broke something and didn't notice, so now I can't even change the thread title myself
||bass broke it, he made lockable threads an admin option but forgot the $ before a variable.

||bass is the one who introduced both errors (by copying the same row, I guess, which also duplicates the bug). I fixed the first one, and now I fixed the next one (and searched for other incidents on the same page). How did I or Acmlm introduce the bug in any way? This isn't blaming something on anyone, it's what actually happened.

But seriously, though, it looks cool enough, and I agree that it looked a bit out of place the first time I saw it, but it seems to fit in more now. Maybe it's because it wasn't in there from the beginning, and then just suddenly got plopped into the layout?
I've been thinking of a subtle gradient at the top except for the tag to show that it's "on top of" the entire layout. I don't quite know what to do though.

Unless i'm mistaken.
Rewriting in the meaning of starting from scratch is among the worst things you can do. What does make sense is actual "re-writing", aka refactoring. Customizing old code to fit new terms (IE, if we were to make everything object oriented, we'd make a lot of classes to do general things and then make the code work with them) and then refine the actual code. Correctly done this is a shorter period of grief but the end result is a codebase making more sense.

Ah well...can't be too picky.
The original idea was that the b meant build. Although it wasn't a build, because a build is something you do as a programmer every time you've changed something enough to warrant a new very minor version change (i.e. stuff like adding the Sticky option to the Edit Thread page. Not actually viewing it, that'd be two builds.). The problem with the 1.93bX system aside from the actual version (1.93 and its fucked up granularity) was that the builds weren't actual builds (rather releases) and weren't betas, as some people still think to this day (again, they were releases; we beta-tested them on the dev server although sometimes a bit poorly perhaps).

My hope is that we'll keep the releases pretty evenly-matched from now on; all releases should be roughly the same size, and thus we should always increment by 1 (from A0 to A1 and then later from A9 to AA and AF to B0, just to show that it's all hexadecimal). The one possible exception from this will be 1.A1 which will fix polls as we know it. It will also include a feature for polls that I have never seen in any other forum system, and that will be mind-boggingly useful. It will take some work, but man, it will be worth it.

Okay, so I've just spent the weekend clearing out basically the entire top floor. Sunday was mostly spent rewiring the desktop which proved to be interesting. I basically got a few cable troughs and a CPU holder. The CPU holder is lovely. You can rotate it 360 degrees meaning that I can have access to the back panel without needing to creep on the floor. All in all, the place is a lot cleaner and neater.

Do the rest of you have any tips on how to keep it tidy or manage cables? What do you use yourself?

I guess I should do my part so people feel I'm not missing out on an iPod thread.

(some) WMA players not MP3 Compatible......
(some) WMA players not AAC Compatible......
(some) Sony players not MP3 Compatible......
majority of digital music players not OGG Compatible......
majority of digital music players not FLAC Compatible......
majority of digital music players not ATRAC Compatible......
majority of digital music players not AAC Compatible......
majority of digital music players by market share not WMA Compatible......
</inflammatory>

iTunes, the iPod's preferred jukebox software, can automatically convert WMA files that have not been applied DRM to (which most WMAs unfortunately have due to it being default in Windows Media Player).

It's a bitch if you buy a good workstation. You'd need to buy two or even four CPU holders.

My guess is that due to the increasing number of accessories of various external boxes they use the term CPU to mean "The box which holds the main part of the computer, including the CPU". Or they're retards and use the term CPU for the same reason. Atleast they're not referring to them as "the hard drive".

Tarale, it's called a cable collector. I run a network with two peripheral printers attached to them, I have a 5.1 speaker system with an external amplifier, a sound card with an external box just to hold the interface connectors, a wireless keyboard and mouse suite which needs not only a bluetooth USB hub/mouse dock/recharger but also extraneous AC, and then there's a few cables for the minimal Shuttle file server and external USB2 backup HD as well. The cables ARE going to pile up on me, and I don't need a cable collector to collect them, I just need to hide them somewhat. The trough is a pretty neat solution.

For other things, mabye a USB hub that sits on your desktop? It'd save having to shove a wire down the back every time you use one.
At the moment I have exactly one USB device connected (the bluetooth hub/mouse charger dock) and I'd still want to make use of my three seperate USB channels (higher-bandwidth traffic). Thanks for the tip though; I didn't even think about hubs.

BMF, I'm eagerly awaiting a combined SCART/AC switch that will cater to us with multiple consoles in at once but few power outlets near the TV.

Okay. I'm all for respecting and taking one's political opponents seriously, but now I saw this. I seriously have no idea whether I should laugh, cry, or feel happy that canadians have something to counter the "aboot" joke with.

You can't concede that the americans were bigger asshats than the canadians (which were only trying to fight back) though.
