Originally posted by ErkDogThis is why I said "hush" in the first place. I know you would hold some kind of grudge with me for picking something else. I respect people making their own choices; note how I haven't passed judgement on anyone picking Fifty Pounds, while you appearently, with this last post, pass judgement on me for not doing so? I called your company sometimes by your name, sometimes by its own name. This is not out of disrespect or spite - merely to make it easier to visualize this. You could call your company Fifty Pounds Integrated Corporate Fiber Networking Solutions and Consultation, Inc. if you'd like, but it'd still be run by one person. This is not inherently a bad thing, nor is it inherently a good thing. It all depends on what one's priorities are when picking hosts. Mine was support, because I'm tired of having been my own helpdesk. I do not doubt for one second that you're good at providing support to your customers; probably better than the 'drones' at bigger companies. However, if even ten or twenty customers at any hosting company wanted support with different things at the same time, as I'm sure will happen, I'm not sure I'd want to be either the sole guy providing support or one of the customers in line. That has been my major point all the time. Just because it's cheaper to have someone you know build you a computer doesn't mean it's treason to go out and buy one. And I ask you once again to call off the fight and just accept that I'm (according to you) throwing money in the lake. |

Okay, Erk and I worked out that argument on AIM, but I have something else to say. 1. NO MP3s are being reuploaded to the server, regardless of what's on them. I don't know if the particular MP3 files you have are legal, I don't know if Aletia runs some kind of OMG BAN bot that automatically yells for some guy to check on it, in which case if they could find copyrighted songs on there I'd be toast. I'll be keeping all MP3s harvested from the various folders on my HD and will give them back to those who used to keep them on the condition that you won't reupload it. I can't afford to not enforce something like this. 2. Uploading is taking a lot more time than I anticipated. With databases I hope to have everything setup until friday is over my time; readjustments will be needed though. 3. Thanks again for your cooperation and patience. We'll be there soon. |

Originally posted by DragThe details are these: "I don't know". I will assume a worst case scenario of no mp3s at all because it makes the most sense; anything less and I might get shut down. Not fun. Other than that, I completely understand that they have a right to demand that no illegal mp3s are being kept there, so for people like you, Drag, who create their own music, I'm afraid you're going to have to be able to back most of the copyright up, or find a way to get around it by not storing the actual mp3 - like zipping it or encrypting/encoding it and having a download script decrypt/decode it on the fly. I'll have to remind you that these same people host Rydain, who host her own music on her domain, so as long as you can back your own copyright up, Drag, you should be home free. Either that, or we'll take Rydain down with us. |

Originally posted by |+Legion+|Oh, I forgot to mention that. I have to set up every subdomain again. I had 20-30 subdomains, and around 1-3 alias subdomains for each. When you go to a subdomain that's not set up, you're still sent to the correct server ("neo"), but you won't end up in the right folder. And it takes me two page loads in the control panel to set up ONE subdomain. I spent all of 2PM to 1AM yesterday setting up old databases, transferring files, even correcting code that connects to databases. I still didn't get through everything. So there's a fork in the road here. Either you can bitch about how you're not my absolute top priority, or you can help me out by sending me stuff like your preferred login and password. What did you choose? Bitching. No love, Leg. No love. (edited by Jesper on 11-13-04 06:46 AM) |

Like so many else have said, we weren't doing this because of the qualities of the actual hosting (it was good if not great), we were doing this because of the things Erk did outside of hosting us, or for the liberties he took just because he was hosting us. Edit: Rename thread. For everlasting clarity. (edited by Jesper on 11-15-04 11:54 AM) |

Originally posted by ErkDogThis isn't just the board, this is IRC too, where we have reliable witnesses that you abused your powers. It proves your behavior was consistent but that you didn't exert your power on the board as much (probably because it'd be too obvious). We decided to switch over both the board and IRC based on principle and common sense. (If you found out one of your friends was a burglar you'd strip him of all keys to your house, not just one.) Oh, and there were plenty of IRCops on GamePit agreeing with our point of view as of the last time I was there. Just saying. |
