Not if your browser can install stuff by being pointed at the wrong goddamn JPG picture.

Outlook (Express) are using the exact same rendering engine; Outlook is probably the safer choice when compared to pre-SP2 IE because it has reasonable safe-guards built in!

Thank god IE people aren't dumb enough to spend $250k advertising for someone else.
Using a similar branch of logic: Thank god some of those farmer africans aren't dumb enough to pay for other people to, like, grow their food for them. I mean, how stupid are we westerners?

Besides, the only reason IE users wouldn't do that is because it's bad enough to not patronize to that extent. Challenge; list ten things where IE is better than Mozilla, Firefox or Opera. (Hint: Installing spyware without asking doesn't count.)

I can't list as i don't know Mozilla nor Firefox.
Then how about trying it out before you diss it?

Okay, let's stop this conversation right now. knuck, start a new thread if you'd like to continue this discussion (I'm all for it) - the rest of you can have your catgirl thread back.

Konfabulator is now available for Windows after having been available for Mac OS X a long time. What's Konfabulator? It's a program that lets you run small programs called Widgets on your desktop. These Widgets are easy to write as they are written in Javascript and encapsulated in an XML file.

Try it: http://www.konfabulator.com/downloads/ (Beware! The server is currently slow, just keep trying.)

I'm planning to release a few widgets that'll integrate with AcmlmBoard in one way or another later on. If you have any ideas, just let me know.

For once I agree. In my mind Hardware/Software is too much of an "issues" forum. Let's recite the description:

"Windows making you cuss? Monitor making you scream? Don't know your motherboard from your mother? Is your printer traversing alphabets you've never heard of? Need help setting up a program? Even if you just want to let off some steam about your hardware or software, you can do it right here. Who knows, you may be able to get some help."

Yep, sounds like an "issues" forum. I don't recall the exact reasoning, but it probably was created to provide a special forum to not swamp Help & Suggestions with computer questions.

It's a good thing, then, that the forum description for Craziness Domain explicitly rules out threads like this. Except that it does not. Sorry.

A-hoy-hoy. I started another thread on this in Craziness Domain, and with a little different focus. Noone deemed it appropriate - and by noone I mean Legion, he's not even staff you know - so I took the business here despite this being a Help forum by definition (forum description). Oh well. Has anyone here actually tried it?

It was Gadget actually if anyone needed to know.

Anyway, I downloaded a copy of Konfabulator and I must say that the weather widget is quite impressive, but one thing about Konfabulator bothers me though, it installs the widgets into it's own folder in the (abandoned) My Documents folder and I already have unregistered mydocs.dll from my Windows OS, very strange indeed.

Pretty handy weather widget though.
It tries to do it the standard way, and the standard way these days is the My Documents folder and subfolders, like it or not.

I also changed the thread title - there's no longer a question mark at the end of the title as there is no doubt about Konfabulator coming to Windows (nor has it been - it was part of the original intent).

Sometime today, something in my server broke. I came home to see it being down and not starting up no matter what. I then decided that I'm tired of taking care of this myself. Over the past few months it's also been consuming more and more bandwidth, leaving less and less for the rest of my own private connection, driving both me and my family mad.

I've ordered a hosting account that's hopefully big enough to fit all of your stuff. It will be up again as soon as possible. All data is intact - I have checked the HD - and will be transferred; however I might not recall the exact usernames and passwords for your FTP accounts and this is something that will be taken care of. Email addresses and webmail will also be provided, finally.

Any questions go here. Now aren't you glad I introduced blockable layouts?

The only feature whose future is in any way uncertain on the whole server is the custom title setup, and that's only because I have no idea if they have the GD module enabled on their server. I hope to retain every single piece of functionality on the new server for you people - I will not be the one boss over the hardware on the new server ofcourse and that's actually a bit of relief for me. Part of the good of having stuff hosted for you is that you won't have to worry about your server going down while in dial-up land, or that your server will be hacked because you don't know the OS inside out.

So, just curious. But who was the host now again?
This. Is. Not. On. Purpose. Spare me your conspiracy theories.

I've decided to go with a different host than I showed you, Kitten Yiffer (that was on monday as I recall, and not yesterday). I'm going with Aletia, the host of wootboard dot net as it was, and the current host of rydain.org if I'm not mistaken, which is how I heard of it in the first place. A kickass deal either way you turn it, and a good bang for the buck. (ErkDog, before you say anything, hush. I have my reasons for not picking you, you know, the way I have my reasons for not picking literally thousands of other hosts, including myself. )

In 3.0 you can unload even the default medium plugins if you'd like; IE only have it load AIM support for you at any given time. It's not "nothing but text IM", but it can speed up loading.

I have had the best experience with these guys way back with wootboard, better than with any other host in fact. They are a bigger host than for example Fifty Pounds, and that, simply put, made the decision for me. For all I know, you could be hosted in the same data center.(Actually no, their page says "Owned and operated by Jaguar only".) No; the thing is that these kids have a real proven organization going for them. Thus they can focus on more support and more features. Features which sometimes translates into 49 preinstalled scripts, yes, waste of my money, but it also translates into other things such as them backing things up for me and having people dedicated to answering questions. They have lots of support if things go boom, ErkDog doesn't. I don't expect him to either, but that explains why I went with someone else.

It's copying right now. When it's on my primary HD I will try to upload everything - I will need to filter out needlessly big files. I know some people have been uploading stuff temporarily and there's no shame in that, I was as guilty as anyone, but with a 1GB limit, they'll just have to go, I'm afraid.

I checked phpinfo last night; GD and FreeType are both in, which means custom title support! I hope the code will "just work" though; there are different versions of GD out there.

as far as support... the ONLY thing I have never done for one of my customers that has asked me is install PHP 5..... I'd like for it to be around just a hair longer before I jump on that boat.....

I make backups in case "something goes boom" I don't make backups in case one of my customers runs a PMA Query and deletes 1,000 users on accident.....

so I guess if you want to pay $5 a month more to cover your ass in the instance that you can't not delete 1,000 users from your users table, then that's your peroggative...

I agree. You do provide unmanaged hosting at a very good price. The point is that I have run my own "unmanaged hosting" for two years, and I'm sick of it, and I want to get away from it. If the server I'm on goes down, they'll have a lot of incentives to fix it, which is not different from any other host. The difference is that they have guys there 24/7 to make sure it will go up again. Neither I nor you can offer that. And that's what I want.

I set a minimum for my hosting to have 1GB, because I host a few people myself. I have no idea how much bandwidth I'm using, but given that it over the last few weeks slowed my own connection to a crawl, I'm just happy it's not slowing it down here anymore.

It's now uploading. 890MB, and I had to omit some of the big files - a lot of high resolution photos of the DS from Kirby PopStar's E3 coverage. Sorry, man.

Oh, and I still have databases to do. You'll all have to prefix all database names and usernames (but not table names) with "jwootest_" to get things working. Everyone hosted and having their own database, please send me a PM detailing some files that should need changing in that aspect and I'll try to do as many as I can.

I have added 4 PHP Extensions for my customers....

I have the same resources available to me to resolve hardware fKitten Yiffers that they do....

If a piece of hardware fails in my server... they will fix it IMMEDIATELY....

and I restore information from the backup from the last sunday
We could discuss this forever but I've already made my decision. Some people are just more comfortable with company hosting, and I happen to be one of them. Let's drop this before we resort to flaming or go wildly offtopic.
