Mod!? Whatever, I was just saying to stop complaining. If you would all do your job, then I wouldn't have to suggest for others not to state not to use BMP's when he said he was sorry they were BMP's in his first post! Others do it all the time, and I don't see them getting talked to. Before Kyouji became moderator, he told people what to do, how to act, this and that. No ban or being talked to for him. I could show you a computer, a 56k modem computer, but I don't have a picture of mine. Mine loads everything very fast, yet it's a piece of crap. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I don't want to fill up darkflights thread with spam.

So, darkflight, sorry for the above, and once again your game looks very nice. I was trying to find the URL for mario's house, but I wasn't able to. I can't wait to see how you did it. I'm sure it will look very cool.

You're all right. Slay's and Danielle's post really makes alot of sense.

I have talked with her many many times about as much as I could. We have agreed to just stay really good friends, which I am perfectly fine with. We still hug and kiss and that kind of stuff, but thats it. Our relationship (friends) is so much better than it was before. She understands that I love her, and I understand that she still has alot of growing up to do. She leaves in 29 days, and I am spending all of tommorrow with her, so thats just wonderful.

She tells me that she will not have sex with anyone (and I know this is true. I found something out recently that kinda prevents her from doing it) but she will have relationships. I told her I am fine with it as long as we stay really good friends.

I have also talked to my parents. My dad hates the entire thing, but my mom doesn't mind it as much now. She says that if I want to get a job and save my own money, I can go down to Hawaii to be with her for a summer. I have already started saving. Her parents also know, and surprisingly they were pretty much fine with it. Her dad wasn't very happy, but he wasn't angry. What he said to me was that he thought I may have liked his daughter, but he knew that I wasn't the type to take advantage of her [and I'm not]. He said that the relationship was fine as long as "nothing happened" and I wouldn't hurt her. Her mom thought it was great [her mom adores me...lol]. They didn't even mind about the age difference.

So thank you everyone for all your help. Our relationship is great, it's all out, her friends even know and don't hate her for it!! So it seems like everything is going good. I am so happy now Thanks!

@ the new screenshots:

1. The overworld looks okay. I like the idea with the river.

2. The layout is nice. It really resembles the original map tho. Is that something you are trying to do with this game? Alot of the overworld layout (levels) are unchanged. But you build land masses around the levels that looks really good. The water fall in the cave is always something I love to see. I like the level names too.

3. Nothing to amazing here. Just abit of land rearrangement. It looks good tho.

4. Like Bloodstar said, its way to bright. Darken up the FG abit. Also, to me it looks alot more icy then it does snoey. Its also very empty. Add some detail in and some enemies.

I like the looks so far. Your overworlds would be alot more exciting if the levels were in different spots and you used some new palettes. But other than that, it looks good. Keep it up.

I think it would be very hard to move the layer 3 status bar down to the bottom of the screen. You would run in to a problem moving it down there anyway. The item in the item box wouldn't work right. You would have to re-code how it works. It currently falls down when mario gets hit, but if the status bar was at the bottom, it would have to fall up.


Also, your current status bar has some blackness around the part that says "world", and around the dash. It doesn't look good.

So in short, moving layer 3 down there is possible (with ASM of coarse, but you would need to learn it, as I don't think anyone here will help with this), but you would run into problems. You may even have to re-point the counters and stuff, I think....

If you do make the sprites inside the pipe invisible, could you also make some pipes that do not make the sprites invisible? I have an awesome idea for a level with these pipes, but I kinda need ummm...glass tubes. It would look odd if mario was invisible, because you don't turn invisible when you are behind glass. If you don't make them tho, thats okay. I can figure something out.

I can't wait for the final release of these pipes. Good job Mikeyk.

BTW, do these pipes also work for luigi? I'm not sure if mario and luigi use the same coding or not, but if they don't work with luigi, some people may run into problems....

EDIT:

After reading the above post made by Ludwig, I suggest that you DO NOT make the sprites invisible. If people don't want the sprites to show thru, then they can simply add an extra few pixels on the outside just as Ludwig said above. This would solve my problem as I mentioned above too.

I would go with what Hyper Hacker said. Hack the status bar coins so it shows 3 to 4 digits, and make the bank just hold extra coins.

However, make it so you can deposit and withdraw the coins, but not spend them right from the bank. And then make it so that once you reach a set amount of coins, the bank keep will tell you a secret for a price...all the coins in the bank. You set the number tho...keep it a surprise. The secret could reveal a hidden power-up, a secret level, secret world, many hints as to where to find certain things, a password for a text file you distribute with your game that has something hidden in it, it could be any number of things.

I think that it would be an awesome addition. But it's up to you. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and remember...

Layer 1 is the levels and paths that mario follows on his journey thru out the map.
Layer 2 are the events that mario can reveal, like paths, and stuff.
Then there are the static layer 1 and 2. They are levels that sit ontop of the levels for revealing on submaps that you currently aren't on. I am pretty sure I am correct with the above. Just check the overworld help file in lunar magic for a more detailed precise answer.

I am also the one who created the sunset overworld. It's linked to in the second post made in this thread. Its a little ways down the page. I thank you for your comment.

As for your overworld, its very...blue. I really don't want to predict a SNES version of Super Blue Bros (those hacks by legs).

Don't use that kind of blue. You have the colors all wrong. The cliff faces should be a dark blue. Like faded navy blue. Then the diamonds and main ground color should switch palettes. Mmaking the diamonds dark, and the main ground lighter. And as you get closer to the edge of the land, make the blue get darker. Also, don't space the color "strength" out so much. Have maby a Luminosity (Lum.) difference of 10 (thats what I do) per palette. So if your first blue was:

Hue: 160
Sat: 240
Lum: 90

And you wanted a darker version of the SAME COLOR, then change the Lum to 80. If you wanted a lighter version, change the Lum to 100. Get it? Good.


Now onto the design. You have way to much empty space. I like the cliffs at the bottom, they look really good. The land mass rising out of this island tho, isn't very attractive. I see what your trying to do, but it just doesn't look very good. I don't have any suggestions on how to make it look better other than not do it at all.

The Yoshi's Iisland map is horrible! What happened to the winding cliffs you had on the main overworld? NEVER MAKE SQUARE ISLANDS THAT TAKE UP THE WHOLE MAP. It looks really bad, and unexciting. No curves at all. It looks fake. I see one level that branches off in 2 ways. That tile needs to be red.

And just change the palettes. Go with what I described above.

To be perfectly honest, the blue looks really bad. No matter what you do with it. I wouldn't continue with the blue color because well, grass just isn't blue. Not even in a mario game. Use green or brown, or something else. Just fix some stuff up.

1. Personally, I think this looks good. Change the pipe to brown, and darken up the palettes, and it will look quite good. The background kinda looks like chocolate.

10. Looks good except for the clouds. Not the SMB3 ones but the rounder ones. What are they doing there? They look bad. I like the note block idea! Mind if I use that idea in my hack? It would save alot of time and work better than having to insert bounce blocks with block tool.

11. LMAO at the koopa's eyes! Are they high or something? lol. This screen looks good tho.

16. Looks good. Fix the slight greenness on the cherry. Good job.

Would someone beable to help me with my layout. I have a graphic done, but I need the coding to actually make it work.

Here is the image:



Pretty much what I'm looking to do is have a layout like Kitten Yiffer's or Kawa's. Image to the right, faded text box on the left, text inside the text box, and doesn't move onto the right picture, and if the text is to long, have it become scrolly.

I would like/color]

Text: White
Scrollbar: Transparent like Kitten Yiffers
No stretch layout. Looks as it looks no matter what I type/put in it.

And I would also like there to be 2 things in the signiture/color]

1. Layout Credit To "Insert Username Here" For Help With Coding (have this at size -2 font)

2. Beep (linking to my profile)

I think thats it. So if someone could help me with this, that would be awesome! You can post the code here, or PM it to me if you decide you would like to help. I also need to know how to put the code in. What to put in the Header and Signiture. So thank you very much to whoever helps.

Much has changed since my first post. Some of it is good, some of it is bad.

She will be leaving on July 25th 2005. She will only be in Hawaii for 3 years for sure now. It was going to be 4 or 5, but the military messed something up. The dad only has 4 years left in the military, not 5. Because it's the canadian military, he is being posted with his family to Hawaii for 3 years, and he has to spend his final year here in Canada, in Ottawa (just 2 hours from here!). All the family wants to come back to kingston, but the dad want's to move to Toronto or stay in Ottawa. So it's really up to him.

Anyway....

She is leaving July 2005, and returning to Canada ??? 2008.
Then in Ottawa for 1 year (it may be shorter, it depends)

So when she returns to Canada, she will be either 13 or 14 depending on which month she comes back in. Her birthday is Novemeber 1st, so if it's after that, she will be 14.

Anyway, no one really needs to know all that, just thought I would clear things up. She could potentially be sexually active at any age really, but her teen years are more likely for stuff to happen. So thanks everyone, and thats it for me in this thread.

I have a question about this button combo. I was angry at my computer one day and just pressing buttons. I pressed this combo, and my computer shut down. Well, it kinda shut down. The screen turned black, I lost all connections to the interent and stuff (according to the modem thing beside my computer), and the tower shut down. But as soon as I let go of the buttons, everything comes back to how it was before.

So I was wondering why this happens? Is it just because lots of buttons are being pressed? I am running a windows 98 computer. I haven't been able to do it on Windows XP tho.

What other button combos are there that give you weird results? (not ctrl + alt + delete).

EDIT:

I just found out that Enter + Space scrolls you down the page a tiny bit. And then Shift + Space scrolls you up a tiny bit.

Comments:

1st Shot: VERY nice. I have no clue how you fit all that into one level, but however you did it, good job. The SMB3 BG fits in so good with the YI FG! Keep it up.

2nd Shot: Love the BG palette! The FG looks okay. Not to exciting, but how can ice blocks be really..lol. It reminds me of that YI level...the first one in Ice World I think it was...

3rd Shot: DEMO NOW! This level looks sweet. The added mist is such a sweet touch. I don't know what else to say here.

4th Shot: FG = fuckin sweet. I love the icy snow on the hills. Did you do that or is there graphics like that in SMB3? BG palette is okay. The red looks kinda weird.

5th Shot: Just looks normal. BG is okay. Kinda empty...is that all it is? or is there stuff below it?

6th Shot: NEED A DEMO AGAIN! Love this one too.

This hack looks amazing. Your TI rips are perfect! Keep up the awesome work man!

BaNd, your overworld has a nice design, and it will look even better if you follow a few things I said in my first post in this thread. You have a nice design, and Im sorry for people comparing my overworld to yours. I worked on mine for like 2 days (just the main overworld), and I have done countless overworlds before, so I have lots of experience in that field. I'm sure you could be just as good if you fix up a few things. Also, be creative and add "do-dads" all over the ground. Little rocks, trees, bushes, mushrooms (), all that nature stuff.

Also, is there a need for it to be blue? If it follows a theme for your hack, then thats awesome, but if you made it blue just to make it blue, I would have it be that way for a reason, and not just because.

As you said above, this is your first time. My overworlds weren't very good my first time either (I actually still have my first one if you want me to show you a picture). So just ignore people flaming you, and concentrate on making this the best overworld you can make!!

@deathdrummer: Your opinion on my overworld is fine with me. I am in no way "done" it yet, infact I have changed and added a few things since the last screenshot. And I still have more to add. I'm not even done all the events yet! I just love making overworlds, so thats what I always start with, and then build my levels around that. Please, if you want to point out the flaws in my overworld, do it in the thread I made so I can fix stuff up. Thanks.

I have decided to release some screen shots of a few completed levels from my hack. I am just looking for comments on them, ways to improve, and errors that you see; not flames. Really sorry that they have to be linked, but they are quite large in dimentions. They are PNG, and around 60kb to 100kb. Here they are:

Thornwood Swamp
Forest Stump
Thornwood 4
Random Forest Level
Forest Level
Flooded Cave Secret Area
Frozen Cave
My Space Tile Set
A Castle (not likely to EVER find this in the game, but it's there)

For the space tileset, the enemies will be edited so they are more suited for space. The volcano lotus will be mechanical, and blend into the ground looking like little metal gysers. The koopa's will be in suits. The goomba's will be cyborg goombas. The ninji's will have suits on. And mecha-koopas may just be a palette change, not sure yet.

So I'm looking for your comments and suggestions.

@Imajin: I know the stumps aren't that great. I can't add anymore to the ExGFX file tho. (I do have one I can use, but I really need that for something else in the level). I will change the swirl part so that it's rings instead.

@lags_80: Ya, the yellow isn't that great. I will dull it down a bit.

@HyperHacker: Rings will be fixed. The green and blue things are susposed to be tarps of some sort. They are there so I can include coins and blocks and stuff like that and still have rain in the level. I have a thunder/lightning sprite, a background, FG and rain, so I couldn't pt rain on layer 2. The blocks in Random Forest Level do work, it's been tested. I only posted this one for comments on my custom FG. Ice Cave ground isn't being changed. I like it, thats what matters. Computer stuff is a good idea. Flashing buttons and stuff. I just don't want it to look like BMF's to much. The big hole is..umm...just there. I wanted some varity cause the tower is pretty high. Platform jumping does get boring after a while.

@Darkflight: The castle will be there. Just as a VERY hidden secret level that only hackers can get too. May be a bad idea, but thats how its going to work (hints are provided thru the game, and if you get them all, then you can get to the castle. It's not really going to be that hard...). And mario isn't invisible when coming out of the pipes, it's been tested also.

1st Shot:

Looks good, except the square look. Make the landmass funky and curvy. Then it will be much better.

2nd Shot:

The lava looks horrible. If your trying to go for lava that flashes like the lava surrounding bowser's castle, then use ExGFX, make some new graphics, and just use the same palette as the lava. It would look much better. The castle also looks pretty bad. This whole map doesn't look very good.

3rd Shot:

The cave seems empty. If you take bowser's castle, and put it on the lowest part of this map, then that would be an awesome map for bowser. Also, like everyone else said, you have no paths.

4th Shot:

This looks nice. It's got no visible levels or paths, but it looks cool. I'd love to see what you do with this.

5th Shot:

This looks nice. The palette is very cool too. The stars look bad tho considering it is a forest type place.

6th Shot:

You left the star shape. I know you can't do a moon, but maby another celestial body might be good? A planet? The level layout is nice tho.

Overall these need some work. To square, lava looks bad, to empty, no levels?, very nice, its okay is what would describe each map in order. Fix them up and I'm sure this will look great.
