The outcome of the poll isn't that surprising anyway. I knew that No would be voted for the most. I would only clean up locked threads and do requests for users anyway. And keep people on topic, which the SMW fourm needs most of the time. That place just gets flooded. Even with 5 moderators, it still isn't looked after a whole lot. Mainly Smallhacker and Juggling Joker take care of that fourm.

All I want is a different username color. I think that each theme should have different username colors. Maby a Mario 64 Rainbow Ride theme would be good with that gradient pastel username colors we had a while ago.

Why dont we just get rid of the "New Reply" button once you are past the first 2 pages? Like we have this first page you see when you open this fourm. Then the one page after this. Then if you go one page past that (pg.3) and click on a thread, the New Reply button isn't there. Also, if you try to manually type in the reply URL using that threads number, it will bring you to a "cannot reply" page or something.

You could even have it so that power level 2 and above CAN reply, but regular and banned users cannot reply. That way, only pages 1 and 2 have threads you can reply to. Also, maby have it so that the thread creator can reply to their own thread no matter what the page, kinda like how only the poster can edit their own post, but not edit other peoples.

I think it would be a good idea, how about you? It would stop bumping.

1) I would if I had some ExGFX space. I will look into it and see if I can make something. But this, I cannot promise.

2) There are aliens on them They are just the koopa kid sprite edited. They are removed for now until I find a good replacement for them

3) I have edited it. I will post a new picture of just Moon World Tommorow for you all to see. I really like what I did with it. It's kinda crowed now tho.

I don't know how many of you reading this also visit the SMW hacking fourm, but alot of bumping of old threads; up to a year old (), have been happening recently. Here is my solution to the problem:

I realize that allowing the creator to reply to their own thread may still result in bumps, but it would cut it down by a ton compared to how it is now. So tell me what you think about this idea!

That layout looks awesome! I like how it fades as it reaches the right hand side. That quote is pretty cool too. And the painting in the background. Good job, I hope to see more posts by you so I can see this layout more often.

This is all one complete screen. It isn't 7 different screens.

Anyway, I assume you are talking about the cliff parts behind the second level in the forest. That is A MISTAKE MADE BY ME, BY ACCIDENT. I have stated 2 times that I made a mistake. What happened was, because I have used alot of ExGFX on these maps the graphic pages sometimes get mixed up. It is supposed to be a round water tile. Exactly like the second level on YI in the original SMW. It is fixed now. I will actually just update the entire map (all 7 of them) for tommorrow so you can all see what is changed.

I have a cliff made over the water fall.
Added more levels.
Fixed the water tile.
Changed some palettes.
Fixed some glitches that I have noticed.
Edited Moon World.
Removed the aliens.
And some other stuff I think.

So I will update tommorrow with a new screenshot. And names for each of the worlds. I still need one for Moon World, and for the YI map replacement.

I love commenting on overworlds!


First shot:

Good:

- I see no really bad graphic glitches.
- Sand, grass, water and cliffs; good.
- You know how to use ExGFX! Nice pyramids.

Bad:

- Castle #1 and #6 are on the same screen. Looks kinda odd. But this is the main overworld, so I think it will work out.
- Cliff hanging over the edge under castle #1 looks odd.
- 2 Moving water tiles in about the middle of the screen looks weird.


Second shot:

Good:

- No graphic glitches again!
- You can actually see mario in this shot.
- Got creative with the cliffs at the bottom, looks good.

Bad:

- Square water
- Castle, 2 pipes, ghost house, and level mario is on weren't moved from their original position.
- See mario in the top left? The square he is in is a different color from the rest of the boarder. I forget how to fix that tho, sorry.


Third Shot:

Good:

- Nothing really. It's to similar to the original, and it's empty.

Bad:

- It needs to be fixed up. Way to empty, and looks to much like the original. Needs alot of work.


Fourth Shot:

Good:

- I love the arctic forest idea!
- Most of the palettes look really good.
- I like the graphical layout.

Bad:

- The level layout is the same as the original.
- The cloud and star palettes need to be changed. Make the stars maby an ice blue, and the clouds a blue to make them stand out against the ground.
- Make the plants cheeks ice blue so they look cold.


Overall, it's not that bad, but it does need some work. I like the ice forest idea, thats really neat. Update us all with whatever changes you make.

Damn Colleen caught me. I didn't apply because I didn't think I would get on. Plus when I read that you needed 4 paragraphes, I decided not to bother. Now I see that almost everyone who applied got a position, I should have. I will next time for sure. *marks calender for....2009?*...sounds about right. I am quite lazy tho...thats a really bad characteristic for staff.

So I have a new question:

Can I use HTML to force my username to be a different color? That would be awesome. Thats all I want is a new color.

The Overworld Picture Has Been Updated.
The things I added are:
- Cliff overhang on the waterfall
- Animated cheep-cheeps in the water
- Another shade of orange in the sky (this was HELL TO DO!!)
- Got rid of the aliens.
- Added in...3? visible levels. Some you can't see, cause something needs to be a surprise. I think there are 4 more...
- Edited some palette on most maps.
- Fixed water tile in the forest, and added a level called "Forest Stump"...sound like something?
- Added some detail to star world...it doesn't look to overcrowed does it?
- Finished all the "special world passed" palettes.
- Some other stuff probably.

I will be editing the cliff walls in some way, because they look to plain to me right now.


@Darkflight: Thanks for the information! I thought I would have had to use hex.

@hhallahh: Thanks. I can't really make the water falls fall diagonally and have them still animated, so its got to stay like it is.

@Graviteh: lol. Look at the updated pic.

@Blaze: It's just the overworld. You spend most of your time in the levels. Wait a bit longer and I will preview the levels for everyone.

@P_acMan: Thanks! I hope people have fun playing it when it's released in a few years. Everytime I see your name, it reminds me of pacman.

@Mario_World_Lover: Thanks.


Now I have some more questions to ask, and a picture to show off.

This is the status bar used in my game. Do you like it? Anything I should add/remove/change?


And here is my question:

Are these the only palettes I can use on the overworld and have the colors appear correctly?

First Shot:

The status bar looks awesome. I like the look of it. That coin is from SMW isn't it? The question blocks look good. The koopas heads look to thin. SMW like tho which is cool. Toads palette looks really good to.

Second Shot:

Status bar looks good again. Toads palette is messed up, but everything else looks good. I really like the platform replacement!

Some of you may have seen my overworld in a thread in this fourm. In order for it to work as planned, I need some help with exits.

Main Overworld = MOW
Yoshi's Island = YI
Vinnila Dome = VD
Forest of Illusion = FoI
Bowser's Valley = BV
Special World = SW
Star Road = SR


Here are the Submap exits I have used:

FoI (09) <-----> MOW (00)
VD (05) <-----> MOW (01)
YI (02) <-----> MOW (04)
FoI (0B) <-----> MOW (07)

Here are the Pipe/Star exits I have used:

VD (07) <-----> MOW (00)
SR (0D) <-----> MOW (01)
VD (08) <-----> MOW (02)
VD (0E) <-----> MOW (03)
BV (09) <-----> MOW (05)



Now comes the hard part. These exits don't exist, and I need them too. I will include the (x, y) coords if they are of any use.

Here are the Submap exits I need:

YI (1, 20) <-----> SW (1C, 2B)
SW (14, 2B) <-----> SR (1A, 3F)
SR (12, 3E) <-----> BV (1D, 20)

Here are the Pipe/Star exits I need:

VD (A, 2C) <-----> MOW (10, 10)



Is it possible to repoint some of the current exits (the ones I am not using), so they lead to where I need them too? I know how to use a hex editor, and if this involves ASM, could someone please help me out. Thanks for any help.

I know how to do that. What I mean is:

For submap exits (not pipe/star), there is no option to go to or from Special world without moving there by a pipe or star. I want to go from special world to star road, by regular submap exit. I can't really make it any clearer. I could get a diagram and some screen shots if people still don't understand.

This is very cool Mikeyk. You are now the third person to implement screen-scrolling pipes into SMW!! I can't seem to do any of the glitches mentioned here in this thread tho. Not a bad thing, but maby I am doing something different than all of you.

I have a request for these pipes tho....how are you going to make these:



The pipes that meet in the middle. You can't place the invisible blocks close or you will get stuck. Could you make the ends of the pipes act like those blocks maby?

I have asked this in another thread, but didn't get any responses. I might as well ask out here where everyone can see.

I (and im sure a few others), need a patch that will load new overworld graphics no matter what kind of entrance you use. Currently, the game will load up new graphics ONLY if you enter a new map using a pipe or star. It will not load new graphics if you enter by regular submap exit. Here are some screens of what I mean:


This is the overworld. I entered it via that moon, so the graphics are fine. But now I am about to enter the forest (indicated by the red arrow).


This is exactly what it looks like when entered. As you can see, that isn't what it's suposed to look like.




And here is just a shot so your eyes don't hurt looking at those glitched graphics


Lunar Paradise. The names good right? I couldn't think of anything better, and didn't want to use Moon World or Moon Road.




But ya, I need a patch that will load new graphics no matter what kind of entrance/exit is used. If someone could help me out, that would really be appreciated. Thanks.

I have no clue how to use a tracer, but because this is a really big problem with my hack, I will search google for how to do this stuff. I will use gigers snes 9x tracer (sorry if thats spelt wrong), for all of this and hope I figure something out. Or coarse I will test on a back up rom.

So thanks for the help darkflight, and if I do figure this out, I can post an IPS of an unedited SMW game (with this fix) and that way others can use it. All of you have been such a help to me, that I think I should give something in return.

Small mario is also 16x32 pixels high isn't he? He has those extra 4 or 5 pixels that make up his hat right? So technecally he is 16x20 or something, but the top part still touches the tiles. Thanks for this new patch Mikeyk!! Your an awesome hacker. I can't wait for the block tool release. Just work out all the bugs, and make it as SMB3 as possible. It's cool that you can bring Yoshi thru also. Now all we need is the cornors and we are set.

IDEA:

Would diagonal pipes be possible? The graphics are all ready there, so maby some screen scrolling diagonals would be cool.
