Any of them. I recommend using YY-chr and assigning the correct palettes. You said you only want 2 colours, but you can have 8 if you want If you have AIM, I could help you out

I tried the editor the day it came out, its actully pretty good for such a new editor! It is confusing without actually seeing the graphics, but im not complaining seeing as I would even know where to start in making an editor I couldn't even design one level tho because it wouldn't let me open a YI rom without it poping up with an error. I can't remember what the error said but it was something along the lines of it being dangerous to continue running eggvine. I did manage to open an alredy hacked YI that I found off some site, but that doesn't help because I wanted to start from scratch

I was trying to open a V1.1 rom, its english and never hacked before. Its 2 megs...anyone know what the problem is?

I hvae d/l ed Juggling Joker's(?) Happy set and I think it looks AMAZING with YI sprites...so thats what I did.

I replaced the rexes with a stretched out shy guy, but the head is messed up. Its about 5 pixels to far left. Why is it doing this? It happens no matter what I do to the sprite. how can I make it line up?

I have an old OW, that is really cool, that I could let you use...for 100% credit of coarse. I would have to post a shot later on so you could see it tho. I would have to dig up my old Rom which contains it but im sure that wouldn't be a problem...

u have aim?

Well, on this site the highest prime number is 2 to the power of 13,466,917 and it has 4,053,946 digits

This is a fairly old page so that number has probably been passed

Posted on 08-23-04 06:41 AM, in I need some MAJOR asm help please... Link
I wanted to give my hack an extra special touch so I designed a set of OW sprites that I need to implement into my hack. I wanted to know if it was possible to make mario (luigi), and yoshi be certain sprites depending on the power they have (yoshi's color). Like when you start the game mario would be a regular sprite, then if you get a cape, you would have a cape sprite. The small and big mario's would be the same, just fire and cape.

So I know this will require ASM, but I have no clue as to how I would go about doing this...anyone know? I am pretty sure it involves loading sprite tables upon level exit but im not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thnaks

Okay, what he means is when you are in a level where say, something comes down from the ceiling and trys to crush mario, if you have alot of custom blocks/sprites or both the slow down will be much slower than a level with nothing trying to crush mario.

And if your refering to the block tool update, I have no clue seeing as I have almost 20 blocks and my game doesn't go any slower...even with all the sprites.

BTW, I think that the more animated objects/BG's are in your level the slower your game will be in that area.

I think that SMAS support would be an encredibly great feature. Many many people will probably use it, I know I will! You would be the first person to have a SMB3 SNES editor Thats always good so people will remember you. Look at FuSoYa and Squash Monster. People know them even if they dont hack SMW or YI. That way you can be added to that list for a (hopefuly) great smas smb3 editor.

However if anyone made an editor that edited EVERY part of SMAS that would be truly amazing...

Whats probably confusing you is the fact that block tool uses decimel numbers instead of hex.

1. Open block tool, and go to file > open to open your ROM.
2. Click add block and add what ever blocks you want to add.
3. Open up windows calculator (or a real calculator) and open up LM.
4. Now go to page a page of the Map16 (3-F) and hold your mouse over a square.
5. There will be a hex # in the bottom left of the screen that you need to typr into the calculator under the hex format.
6. Now click the decimal format on the calculator so the number changes.
7. In block tool type that # in the Map16 box that is at the bottom of the screen where you chose what block you want.
8. Go to file > save
9. Close LM and open it again. Go to the page of Map16 the block was to be put on, and hold your mouse over the blue square that you held it on before. It will pop up with a tooltip message you havent seen before explaining the block.
10. Hopefully that works.

Posted on 08-23-04 09:59 PM, in I need help with ExGfx Link
Q1. 1: Which files are the actual Exgfx, the .bins or the .mw3 files?

A1. The ExGFX files are the .bin files that should be named ExGFX**.bin (** should be a number from 80-FFF) .mw3 files are palette files (or maby lvl files I can't remember..)

Q2: Can someone give me a tutorial on how to insert the ExGfx?

A2. Look in either the Noobie Questions and Answers or the ExGFX workshop thread at the top. Its on the first page, its really useful.

For that you must either use:

1. The graphics that are already in the game, just editing palettes or what ever.

2. ExGFX to have brand new graphics in the game.

For the second one, refer to your topic about ExGFX insertion and follow the steps you should find in the ExGFX Workshop thread. What kind of graphics do you want the block to have? Smashable Brick? Frozen coin? What ever it is, make your own graphics or rip them from another game. I wont get into ripping because I am pretty sure that it is covered in the noob questions thread.

Oh BTW, ALWAYS make sure you hit F9 in the 16x16 editor when editing graphics. This will save any 16x16 editor changes that you make

Posted on 08-26-04 12:18 AM, in SMW Bowser Idea Link
Its quite easy to change sprite size with the correct utilites. Just have MSpaint, irfanview, YY-Chr, Emulator, BGmapper and SMAS. Savestate where you want the bowser sprite, view that savestate in BgMapper. Press 0 in BGM and save the Vram GFX. Now open up the vram gfx in paint and copy down bowser and assemble the tiles correctly. Now make bowser fit perfectly on the screen and save that picture. Open it in Irfan view and resize it to the size of Ludwig...what ever that might be. Now copy the image and paste it in YY-chr. Now the pixles will be a bit messed up, but you will have the shape and outlines. Just get rid of the extra pixles and color it correctly.

BTW, how many 16x16 blocks does ludwig take up? If its 2 by 2 then I have the perfect bowser sprite. I think ludwig is a weird size tho, like 1.5 by 1.5 so...a bit of resizeing would be needed.

You dont need to know ASM to rom hack. I can get around many things such as OW (overworld) ExGFX by replacing other non-used graphics. You also dont need Hex Editing unless you want to add ASM. I use neither of these things and I do fine. I am getting close to being 25% done. Maby another year or so...and I may be done. With school just coming up I will probably not be working on it so much so I would start maby next summer...that way you have time to learn stuff.

Oh and you should probably hack YI because SMW is IMO getting slightly old...not many people relize a hack unless its got amazing new ideas or tons of asm...or if its completed. So just wait and learn stuff before rushing into it

Okay, I ripped a new title screen boarder and when I went into my game, some graphics were glitchy. Here are some shots:

First off, here is the title screen, palettes are still being worked out. I circled the problems over to the right. They are only there when I press start and then press atart again. How do I fix this?

And then even worse, This is messed up!! How do I fix this? Also, the ugly peach yellow color of the boarder..how do I change this? I have seen it blue before, is it just a palette change?

Here are the graphics that messed these thigs up. Did I accidentally overwrite a graphic that I needed to keep? If so which one? I have compared it to an unedited one but cant find any difference.

Thank you again
One reason I seldom write on this board is I'm not good at English.

I was just going to ask if a feather exists in this game... Is there a Yoshi? I am only at Great Showers 2 (name?) and so far the hack has been incredible hard, yet incredibly amazing!! I love the level I just completed. Very cool ending!!

Some things I would like to ask...

1. How did you make the diagonal bullet bills?
2. What is the blue goomba that you can bounce on? I know that chuck kicks it, but wouldn't it bounce if it was a foot ball replacement?
3. How did you make those "lifts" in the chuck levels? The ones with the regular platforms but they reproduce them selves?
4. Did you design the bullet bill shoters? They are very cool.
5. Did you design the spotted wooden platforms in the underground levels and in the great showers levels? If so they are 100% mario style!! Very very cool.

This hack is awesome and I look forward to another one!!

Thnaks for the help. Assembling this title screen boarder was hard work, so I will troubleshoot my way through it trying to find out which tiles I overwrite. I will use just a regular rom with correct tiles, because I dont want to mess up this one.

Okay, I am alot farther into this game, and got to the level where I need the red switch and blue one. I got the blue one, but I can't seem to find the red one. I have a good idea of where it is, but I can't get passed one of the stages after those "beach stages". Its got the word "zone" in the name and has that "base" tileset. One of the line guided platforms wont show up. I have tried the level 3 times and all three times the platform doesn't show. Once tho, the platform was there but it was on the opposite side. So I can't beat that level...without cheating

Anyone know a code for floating, or to have a feather or anything that could help me? gameshark or PAR would be great
