This is very possible and I am going to help you with it. First you will need some utilities. You will need YY-chr and paint (or Paint Shop Pro, but Microsoft paint is better). You will also need a wario sprite, I will find that for you while you get the other programs. You will need to open your Rom in LM, and extract the graphics. Then using YY-chr you need to open up a file called AllGFX.bin. It will appear when you extract your graphics but Im sure you knew that. Now you will need to make an ExGFX file.

Do you have AIM or MSN? This would be easier to talk thru their.

Well, I played your hack and too tell you the truth, it was a really bad hack.

None of the colors matched up with each other. You would have blue backrounds with red lava and grayish green walls. There is also a level where you have to hold over right as soon as you eneter the level your you will die. This same level is also not passable.

Then the yoshi's house is messed up. The sprites are messed up nes figures from what looks like a fighting or a ninja game. The pipe that is there acts like water and if you dont keep swiming up you die.

There are many glitches and your power ups are really bad. You have some kind of fire in a bubble that gives you a cape.

If Im not mistaken, I dont think that any of the layer 3 graphics are viewable through extracting the graphics via LM. If you REALLY want to be sure of this though, ask BMF (Im sure he would know) or you could savestate in a level with layer 3, view that save state in BgMapper and view the VRAM graphics. Then just look for the graphics because they will be in color intead of the aweful tile program palettes.

Dracon I suppose your talking about the goal arrow, I dont mind if you use it, It is just a YI rip

I will dowload Goodsnes and find out the real name of my ROM. I will alos wait about another half week or so to release a demo and I will probably have another world done. That way You can play about 13 levels instead of 7

Open the shot in paint and save it as a 256 color. But I always thought it was 16 colurs not 256..?

OMG thats sweet I never knew layer 3 could be edited! Is the fog/mist anywhere near there? I really want to change that bubbly round mist.

Sounds somewhat like my plot. Except mine is Luigi is missing Thats not the name of it, but that is the MAIN plot. I have a few mini plots along the way too.

For mine, the intro is something like, welcome to SSW, luigi has gone missing he helped find you now you have to return the favor.

I have started an into screen, which I will not give details, but it hopefully looks really good

To stay on topic, you should sign up at Photo Bucket and you can upload your pictures there. Then when you post click on the little picture of a mountain and a sun (where you can make your text bold, italic, and add smilies). That will make an [ img ]. Then you paste the URL of your picture after that and click the mountain again. Quite easy Hope to see some screens soon

Yes the ROM is 1 MB. I heard somewhere a while ago that I should have a 512kb (?) rom. I have NEVER found one this small. I never expanded my original Rom or anything so I guess I will need to search out another Rom. I only need 5 more levels and a LOT of sublevels to do and I will release a demo that hopefully works.

Right now I have come up with some wicked ideas that I sort of took from YI. I would perfer if no one else used this ideas as I have already got them in my hack.

I have an ExGFX file with poochi (the YI dog) replacing the mega mole. Then he can run across pirana plants bringing you over!

I have an ExGFX file with those flying creatures (they are the wisps or winds or something like that from YI. Im sure you know what Im talking about). They replace the torpedo teds and they fly across the screen

I have an ExGFX file with the stretched out shyguy replacing the Rex. The fat shy guy replacing the mega mole and when you jump on the rex to flaten him he turns into the small shy guy. I am aware that Luigi's Adventure 2 has the fat shy guy but I really couldn't think of anything else that would replace the mega mole.

Then I am working on a title screen that has mario standing in the center of the screen, with Luigi and Yoshi falling into holes. Thta is the plot, mario needs to rescue them

Lots more, but you'll have to wait for them. I also have a revolutionary level that I have never seen anyone else do before. Its very small because it requires ALOT of palette work, but it looks VERY cool IMO

Edit:

I also have hand drawn goombas (Goombas Of The Lost Era) and new black dudes who jump (forgot there names) I am currently trying to make them into jumping melon bugs but its hard. I also have hand drawn bats replacing the swoopers

Edit 2:

I couldn't get the Good Snes to work right. I d/l it from AngelRoms (hope I can say that without a ban) and it opens fine. But what ever key I press makes a "program terminated" error

EDIT 3:

If someone I can trust not to rip me off with my hack wouldn't mind Locking and IPS patching my ROm, I could send it to you through Email right now.

For the poochy shot, I have the 16x16 editor showing because the ! blocks are pass/no pass blocks. You have to turn them on and off. At the moment they aren't animated because after reading the LM help file and the one in the noobie thread, I still dont understand it.

Is player 2 Waluigi!! That would be awesome!

1. I agree with CPU, the mountains need to be darker. To do this open up level C5 (or C7) in LM and click on the colored star. Edit the mountain palette and make sure you hit SAVE.
2. Xatu Island is an awesome name! The OW is somewhat squarish and there is a liitle hill on the middle right of the island that looks odd, its to far over right.
3. Looks good except for the bird. Thtas the info box right?
4. It wont show up on my computer
5. Glitchy Looking
6. Glitchy Looking
7. Background looks good except the sky.
8. Looks good

Looks like a worth while hack, especially considering this was your first one

If you really insist on those cave BGs the at least put the chrystals on the FG. Just set the block acts like setting to 25 so its as if its not there. You will still see it, but the player wont interact with it. Also, in the next levels you make, you will not want to have blackness around a tile in the BG if its got other tiles near it, like the chrystal. Also try and make it even. Like tile the BG like bricks and it will look 100% better

If you really want to taste some bad pop, try Pepsi Blue. Cola and bluebarries really dont go good together. I love Vinnila coke, I have 24 cans in my room right now

One time I was like, why dont they make chocolate coke also? to my friend and hes like, because it would taste like shit. So the nest day, he was at my house and I got us some cokes. Witchout him knowing I added some chocolate extract (same as the vinnila stuff but chocolate. He had no idea but he really liked it. Its actualy pretty good. So now I got my vinnila and chocolate coke

What about stawberry...

The land in that OW screen looks really bad. If I were you I would make it look exactly like the OW from SMB3 on the nes. Using the correct tiles for levels and the boss castle. You could even have a door that unlocks after you beat a castle like in SMB3. I tried to do this in my hack, but I couldn't get new OW graphics

I am currently replacing bowser with a different sprite. I dont know how well it will go over with all you guys, but I will post shots once I get the palettes working.

So I have edited the palette and got the correct palette on the new sprite. I saved that palette to bowsers level and made sure that I saved the level aswell.

I test it out in ZSNES and there is no palette change. Is it possible to edit the palettes of bosses? If so how?

Yes, I think its level 1C7. I also noticed that it uses the, what I call, regular palette. But Bowser uses a BG palette...I think. Because what I did, was save state in the fight with bowser and open that save state as a palette in an unused test level. Then I looked at the palette and noticed some stuff. The fire that bowser drops uses the same palette as the lava from the underground sets. And bowser uses the 5th (counting 0, 1, 2 etc from the far left) palette for his happy face ship. Then his palette is abit farther down the line. I edited it, but no luck. I am doing all this stuff in a test ROM because I dont want to screw anything up with all the inserting and extracting of graphics.

I will upload some pics to show you better what I mean

You have to put the pallette in the boss area not the boss level. i'm not sure which one is bowser. but it's one of the higher level #'s.

Whats the difference between boss area and boss level? This post was a bit confusing.

Again, I thought that it was the other way around CPUbasic. I have a palette shot here:



The red circled colous are the fire that Bowser drops. The koopa to the far right is almost how he should look. The koopa in the happy face ship is what he looks like in ZSNES. The top circled palettes match up with bowser. The 4th-7th one is his ship, and the last 6 should be bowser.

The reason that the koopa has a red face and green shell is because I used the wrong colours when working with the shot.

Ya I know, thats just to show what he will look like, the colours and all. I have it blended really well.


I tried what you said Cpu anbout trying eacj colour that looks like it would match bowser. I did, and nothing happened. So then I went ahead and made EVERY palette colour a shade of brown. Everything became brown except for Mario and Bowser. I have never gotten mario to change colour before without importing a savestate from a non mario game...

So theres something weird with bowsers palettes...Fu, or BMF would you guys happen to know whats going on? Or anyone else for that matter?

Hey, now that I look at the OW gain, I see that the ground is the exact same as the blocks from the title screen. This is a VERY bad idea. go with what I said, and copy down the OW from the NES version of SMB3. Or make something up your self that looks good. I personally like the castles. Maby making them gray would look better tho.

I alos like the level dots, now there squares
