OK , the file is sent.

I just tried inserting GFX into a similar ROM (Amy's Remix, which is based on my hack), and it does the same thing. When I saved a level first, the address LM gave was around 20656874. That means it's happening after saving a level, and even if I extract the GFX first. Trying LM 1.41 and turning on "use joined GFX files" didn't make the address go to a valid number either. I've checked, and these game(s) play just fine in the emulators. The LM version doesn't change my results.

Strangely, it says 40200 if I use other ROMs.

Posted on 04-08-04 06:36 PM, in Dissapointed in a Mario game? Link
I've rented MKDD, but it didn't interest me. The problem with Mario Sunshine is that it's graphic style just wasn't right. There should only be one game of that kind (in other words, NO sequels) and it has "Wind Waker" in the title (we're in a Mario forum - so I won't talk about that). I'm big on comparing games, so I hope my post isn't too much.

That reminds me, I declared SMB3 to be the least reliable NES game of all time a while ago. The most reliable? The championship goes to Mega Man 3.
This is rating of how often the games load properly, not replay value. It's too bad I can't test this with the Japanese system.

I'd like to have Yoshi's Story (I owned the game for a short time before disappearing), but it might be tough to find now.

Is there an NES emulator which has full support for the VS games (Super Mario Bros to be specific)? If so, can you tell me how to use the features like "insert coin" or whatever other things a VS arcade machine does.

Thanks. A quick anwser too. You know, I wouldn't have to ask such questions if there was an FAQ or manual for the emulator.

Sounds like the same problem I'm having. My thread about it is called GFX Inserting. The bin files are fine.

BTW: I discovered this when trying to edit the "Nintendo Presents" logo. It's a common thing for SMW people to work on.

I've never managed to get any Linux distro to work. I don't have spare hard drives that could be reformatted either... The only distros around here are an old version of Mandrake, and one of Red Hat. Haven't seen newer kinds for sale anywhere either. I'm using Win2000 right now, upgraded (it's confusing to explain) from 98SE. I've seen Linux running on just one computer, it was a laptop (no clue about the distro). Looked like MS-DOS, but with that penguin in the corner.

Posted on 04-11-04 03:31 PM, in Treecko problem (Sapphire hacking) Link
After working a bit on Sapphire, I've ran into this really odd problem. The game resets if it's met in battle. I think this happens because I tried to edit the graphics for those "??" Pokemon that exist between Celebi and Treecko in the data. It's not too serious, but it limits several things:

No way to catch all 386 Pokemon
Can't pick the far right starter
Obvious glitches aren't good for a hack's reputation

Since I don't know hex editing, is anyone willing to explain how I can repair this?

The current patch: http://angelfire.com/pokemon2/theclaw135/Sapphire.ips

Edit: I'll probably just redo the good changes, but more carefully. Did you know? I was actually hoping to turn Mega Man into a Pokemon!

Edit 2: I didn't mean to release this hack yet... Since the IPS is only 2kb, it will stay. Here's three screenshots of my starting Pokemon:

Mario Party 4, but I can't play that very long. I think it was SMW in All-Stars+SMW before that.

Looks like I'm in the help file too. At least this means I can insert GFX again.

Why does the Map16 editor window allow itself to be maximized? There's nothing else to see in it. Unless this paves the way for another "easter egg" feature...

I recently got a PCI ethernet network interface card (I'll need this for DSL), but am having trouble getting it into any slot. My other cards fit just fine. This one seems to be blocked by some invisible force. What should I do? Forcing it down might break my hand, or the device itself. It's very small too.

Posted on 04-15-04 11:54 AM, in Megaman is better when he's NOT on an emulator Link
Huh... That's EXACTLY the same idea which came to my mind when this thread appeared! Mega Man 3 happens to be one of those rare NES games that work properly (it's still in the system right now). Most PC gamepads are weak, a PSX-USB adaptor is what I've been using. So many things get boring when played in an emulator. I really need a way to put SNES and GBA games on a cartridge. There are devices which may never get emulated too.

I got it installed, but in a strange way. It's running fine with no bracket. Though, my first idea was to shorten it with a hacksaw (I actually tried this!), it didn't even shave a bit off the metal.

Posted on 04-20-04 11:14 AM, in Remnants of old Windows versions Link
I've noticed that when you install and uninstall different ones, they leave behind a lot. Specifically, I want to tell the computer that it can't multiboot between 2000 or XP and 98 anymore. The leftover files from Windows 98 (they're not in C:\windows) need to be gone, but I'm not sure what's safe to delete. My root directory is messy because of this. Removing the registry entries for boot.ini might do it. Any suggestions?

Also: this issue is simple, but has a very confusing origin. It's too complex for a post so I'll add some details later.

Posted on 04-20-04 12:02 PM, in Acmlmboard dictionary Link
Since there appear to be words which are rarely used anywhere BUT here, we should have a dictionary. Parts of member names count (but not too many whole names please). Words I can think of:

theclaw - official spelling is "The Claw". def: A faceless character which has three 'fingers' on it's head. Smoke-like clouds come out the tail end. Has psychic power similar to the Pokemon called Mewtwo. There's also regular claws and evil anti-claws (ask me for more info).

neko - def: not sure, has something to do with catgirls.

Acmlm - def: owner/leader of this board.

AcmlmBoard - def: A style of message board which uses PHP and MySQL. Several of them exist, and can be modified to suit the board owner's theme.

woot/wootest - ?

SMWtrix - def: possibly a name for someone's future hack...

syndrome - def: given to users who post many times in a day. Read the board FAQ.

SMWSE - def: the name of my primary SMW hack. It's full name is "Super Mario World Special Edition".

thread - def: a topic level on this board. More info needed.

If you have more words, or know the meaning for one I didn't understand, post it.
Let me know if this has already been done before.

Posted on 04-20-04 12:32 PM, in rom version Link
The rom needs to be in .SMC (or .SFC for the Japanese version) format. Not zipped. Make sure it's version 1.0 or 1.1, I doubt LM has support for PAL-region roms. SMW in all-stars might work, but the GBA version won't. Or:

1.0/1.1 US = yes
Japanese = yes
With all-stars = ?
PAL regions = not that I'm aware of

None of these can work if the file is compressed (ZIP, RAR, etc). Most standard rom sites use them because they need less space. Make sure to unzip a rom file before editing. Emulators usually allow zipped roms, editors don't.

Is there a program that can get rid of them? You know, the ones put in by "release groups" like mode7. Example:

XP does take some time to get used to. I once installed it, but then the modem no longer worked. Had to completely remove the OS and go back to 98SE for reinstalling 2000. I'm using that. XP should work great now since I don't need that modem to connect anymore (as in DSL). I'll try later. Changing your OS due to errors isn't fun. Funny enough, my copy of XP Pro came from Kazaa.

Linux... I got a version running but had no idea how to use it. That computer went back to 95.

You know: the big, blue screen from Windows. It actually helped me once. A few months ago, I decided to vow against finding pr0n (I'll explain why someday). This self-imposed rule would have been broken if the "Blue Screen" didn't happen several days ago. BTW, it was the Windows 2000 type.

Tell me about your BSOD stories!

Posted on 04-29-04 09:49 PM, in Who wants the next installation of theclaw's kickass crossover? Link
Damn back button had to erase the post, now I've got to rewrite it...

That old story has taken QUITE a few plot turns since then. It's impossible to describe now. Not to give spoilers, but only 2 characters have ultimately died so far: Mario and Dr. Robotnik. This series is very complex. I could never explain every detail. The chapter you're all thinking of is #1, there's also a #0. I wrote it later because the original beginning didn't make enough sense. Now you can know the answer to "What happened after the final Super Mario Bros game?".

How odd... A real picture of me goes something like this: Ugly little guy, aren't I? It's from October 2002!

Back on topic - Having such a large history, unzip this for most of it.

http://www.angelfire.com/pokemon2/theclaw135/The_Adventures.zip

I've got some unrelated stories, and a series that later merged into this one.

Sorry - a few chapters are incomplete, even though later ones have been finished.

No! I'm totally against it, like everyone else in the family. I've also told someone whose parents smoke that I wouldn't be a friend anymore if they started.

It costs too much money, the health risks are huge, you're supporting the tobacco growers which use that income to encourage more people to ruin their lives, etc. Hurting yourself in general is just sick, so I don't like tattoos, drugs or body piercing either.
