Posted on 06-22-05 09:55 PM, in Castlevania Adventure Quick Fix Link
I put together a quick patch for Castelvania Adventure for gameboy. Many people consider this game to be a black sheep in the Castlevania game series and I made a patch to addresss a few of these.

Here's the changes I made.
I changed the character moving speed cause his default speed was pretty pathetic.

Your character will no longer lose his whip powerup when hit. You originally lose your whip powerups when you get hit. It was a cheap way to make the game more difficult and it was not true to the previous castlevanias to lose your whips when hit. You will lose them when you die tho, just like other Castlevania games.

I swapped graphics for the coin, Cross, and heart to more Castlevania appropriate sprites.

It's kinda hard to get a picture of increased speed or not losing the whip, but heres a pic of one of the graphics changes.

And here is the patch:
http://www.geocities.com/iamstillhiro1112/Castlevania_Adventure_Fix.zip

Thanks to ugetab for helping me find the addy for the whip and speed.

Check out Revenge of Manchu for genesis. Its a beta. Im not sure exactly what it is but it looks to be either a hack or a beta of Zombies ate my neighbours.

Similarities:
Map
Enemies explode when killed
8 Directional walking
Similiar graphics
"Neighbours" to rescue

Here is a pic of it.

Heres a pic i found of zamn via google. It is of the genesis version. But the status bars in this game are like the snes version of ZAMN.

Im not sure what the good gen name is but this is the name of the folder i downloaded. Revenge_of_Fu_Manchu,_The_(Beta)

Damn, I thought I hit gold but it turns out this is a knockoff. According to this:

http://www.genesiscollective.com/ShowPage.php?GameLink=1044

For those who are playing it anyway we got a couple cheats at the gshi forums. We need to get a walk thru walls code tho cause it seems impossible to pass the 1st level.

Well, for the most part all the graphics were changed, which is good. And the green for the title screeen looks nice.

I don't think it was made by the makers ov fceuxd, but you can read about it at http://www.zophar.net/

Sadly it doesnt have true game genie code support either, Hopefully whenever the makers of fceuxd finish their new update it will include that, and also the new features in FCEUXD SP.

I'll have to get back to you on that, cause my friend in the know made that comment. He may mean how it doesnt have the compare value thing in there.

"FCEUXD lacks true Game Genie support, because, unlike FCE, it has no compare value for the codes, which can cause errors in the game when using a Game Genie code that's 8 letters by design. If this value is actually used, it should be possible to change it when editing the cheat."

That wasnt my words. But a fellow hackers.

Well, this is an example of what I am talking about. This is a game genie code for Super Mario bros 2 made by Ugetab, copyright of gshi, or something.

Shells Bounce Off of Obstacles:
OXXOKAEU
VOXOSAOO

These codes will not work in fceuxd because its codes do not have a space for the compare value. But they will work in the normal Fce.

Wow, thats the first emulator I heard of that requires a cheat device rom to use cheats. Anyway, our fceuxd emulator didn't have the read me documentation. At the time it wasn't being hosted at Zophars domain and there was only one site that had the emulator, and it didn't have the readme documentation.

Try to not take requests to improve things personally. I think that an ability to edit your game genie code at will would be good for those who specialize in making of game genie codes.

Edit: BTW, I got the codes to work with the decoder thing.

And with that new title this topic becomes not work safe. JK, yeah, the makeover looks good. I can't wait to see what you can do when you get access to 3 colors instead of 2.

Posted on 06-30-05 09:20 AM, in Attempt to make Metal Gear Table Link
Well, I decided to start a Metal Gear NES hack. So far I changed a few graphics, colors, etc. I was gonna jump into text editing but I have run into a problem. I made a table using the letter values I found in the PPU viewer of FCEUXD. And it should work, here it is for others reference:

A - 81
B - 82
C - 83
D - 84
E - 85
F - 86
G - 87
H - 88
I - 89
J - 8A
K - 8B
L - 8C
M - 8D
N - 8E
O - 8F
P - 90
Q - 91
R - 92
S - 93
T - 94
U - 95
V - 96
W - 97
X - 98
Y - 99
Z - 9A
0 - 70
1 - 71
2 - 72
3 - 73
4 - 74
5 - 75
6 - 76
7 - 77
8 - 78
9 - 79
copyright thing - 80

Anyway, When I do text searches it doesn't come up with a single word, I tried searching for Konami, nothing. I even manually scrolled thru the entire rom in the hex editor. ANyone got any clue on how to fix this?

I used a table maker, so mistakes like that are not likely. I just have to put the value of Each letter into its box. Then when I'm done I hit generate. I've used it successfully for another NES game before. Being this metal gear is a Konami game could it be that theres some kinda compression or something throwing me off?

Edit: Someone sent me a working MG Table. Im not sure why mine didnt work. Anyway my hack is back on track.

Zelda 3 hacks take time, much like Zombies ate my neighbours. I woudlnt' be suprised if it took over 3 years to make one. I think every game that has a editor should have at least one hack so I'm hoping this will fit the bill. Anyway, yes, looking good. I hope you do change more graphics. Cause what has changed in the graphics so far is nice.

My advice is to not start rom hacking with gba. Start with something easier, NES for example. I'd give a suggestion for a table maker but Zophars domain seems to be down at the moment so I cant get it's download name.

Solomons key was a great little game. That is one reason I love that there is a editor. I also love to see abandoned nearly complete projects picked up and completed. Kudos for helping along the editor.

Or just download a rom that has a header.
