Happy SAAD day everyone to whom this day applies. You all do an amazing job keeping this place in order, and keep people coming back to post their free time away. |

I'm 27 years old, male, middle class, White / Caucasian. It's nice to see that other rom-hacking folk aren't all just in their teens. |

Check this one out also, it looks kind of promising, and it's fairly unheard of. http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/danmasu/Contrib_10/index.htm (edited by Chickenlump on 08-16-05 02:21 PM) |

If all else fails, go back to Geiger's SNES9X Debugger and try the controller config again. If you have to, do one button at a time, close the config window, do the next button, etc. This is how I got my controllers working, its an annoying bug, but after several tries it IS possible to completely configure your controller through doing a few buttons at a time, and openening and closing the config window. It's also good to check out the other suggestions here too. Also, there are mapping programs that map your keyboard keys to your controller, you could do it that way too (all else failing of course). |

Other than 'it just doesn't' , do you really want people accessing anything on your hard drive? (the correct answer: no) Use http://www.photobucket.com or similar sites to host your screenshots, and link from there. As for your hack itself, you will have to use someplace like Geocities, or Angelfire or some other free service, assuming you don't have somewhere else to host it (not your hard drive ). Eggvine is your only choice, there are *zero* other YI editors available on the internet available to the public, or in progress (that anyone knows about). Either get Eggvine working, or use a hex editor, both will probably take a bit of research and learning time on your part. (edited by Chickenlump on 08-18-05 12:47 PM) |

You aren't going to find anyone to do the work for you, especially not a task like that. Everyone that is capable of doing such a hack learned ASM at one point and can now do it themselves, which means you can/should/will-pretty-much-have-to yourself. Links you should bookmark and read through: http://k2pts.home.comcast.net/gbaguy/nesasm.htm http://nesdev.parodius.com/ There is no point in NOT learning this stuff if that's the kind of things you must have in your hack. Links to places that will help you out, and help you to better yourself is pretty much all you'll get anywhere you ask, if you're lucky, and post with a better attitude. |

I see everyone's point, improvement is good, especially bug squashing. If Lunar Magic were to dissapear from the net right now, SMW hacking would pretty much die off. I just don't think it's good for hackers to be too dependant on one single tool to do their hacking, it stifles creativity, people learning more advanced hacking methods, willingness to create other tools, etc.. Because Lunar Magic cannot edit everything, people had to start searching for other ways to do things. Look at how awesome the SMW ROM addresses thread has become, for example. Everyone there learned/is learning new things, bettering themselves and becoming better hackers because of things Lunar Magic cannot edit. Heh heh... If I created a tool that I said was done, and didn't want to release the source, I'd probably become soured by all the needling of people to continue against my wishes, or hand off my code reguardless of my reasoning. Use Ycompress to decompress most of the graphics. I usually just dump them into one file. I'm in the midst of making a Ycompress front end (right before you posted ). Place Ycompress in the same directory as Yfront. Dump the graphics. Edit the graphics. Recompress the graphics. here's a beta of it: http://board.acmlm.org/commons/file.php?id=51&page=0#303894 The front end isn't neccisary though, just read the Ycompress readme for it's usage. http://fusoya.panicus.org/yoshi/index.html (edited by Chickenlump on 08-29-05 11:17 AM) (edited by Chickenlump on 08-29-05 12:36 PM) |

Ha ha For some reason I keep TilEd 2002 v.064 build 2600 around, and use it occasionally. I'm not sure why exactly. |

Yes, the frontend isn't needed at all, just read the readme that comes with ycompress. Everyone seems to have trouble with command line utilities, but I'm sure you'll get it. |

/This is a graphics decompression/recompression program for SMW2 : /Yoshi's Island (SNES). It supports the US ROM version 1.0 or 1.1, /with a standard 0x200 byte copier header. Make sure your rom is headered, and the version listed above. Make sure your ROM isn't marked as 'read only' and no other program has it open. |
