So you're just changing the names of the characters? Doesn't every final fantasy let you name your own characters?

Yes, because he obviously has a deadline.

I usually keep Hex Workshop open, 3983298 .txt and .log files, mIRC (as a distraction), AIM, Lunar Address, Windows Calculator, sometimes the RAM address list maker (I forget who made it), and IE.

I just make my own palettes for TLP, using screen shots for referance. As long as you get the colors reasonably close, you should be able to tell what the graphic's gonna look like in the game.

Its not just the fact that its complex, the editor has alot of bugs in it, alot of people get frustrated with it and give up.

Ok, this is kind of hard to explain, so I'm going to try my best.

I'm looking for a specific value in an SNES game's RAM that keeps getting shifted around, thus I can't make a saved state and look for the value in that. Is there any program or method where I can set a breakpoint in the code and then view the ram? or even an snes emulator that will create a saved state at the breakpoint?

I didn't even realize ZSNES has a debugger, I can't seem to get mine to work though. I ran the program with -d, what do I press while its running to enter debugger mode?

Posted on 04-26-04 09:02 PM, in What is the dumbest game you've ever played? Link
A Boy and His Blob wasn't bad at all, just misunderstood. ET was pretty fucking awful, I remember getting sick of all my other 2600 games and trying ET, then 4 minutes later start playing one of the games I was sick of again. This happened every couple months. Star Raiders for the 2600 was shittier though, in fact, it was so shitty you needed a special controller for it. The Worst NES game I ever played is probably Gumshoe, a side scroller where the guy runs to the right automaticly, and you have to shoot him with the zapper to make him jump. For the SNES, I'd say Home Improvement takes the taco, helping Tim "the Tool Man" Taylor search for the missing Binford tools isn't as exciting as you would think. The shittiest game of all time, however, is definatly Corpse Killer for the 3D0. Usually anything involving zombies and killing zombies has to be at least kind of cool, but there is NOTHING good about this game. Imagine Lethal Enforcers, minus the fun, plus grainy, unconvincing actors in zombie make-up and painfully bad cut scenes with live actors playing a ditzy blonde reporter and walking stereotype of a Jamaican. Definatly the "Plan 9 from Outer Space" of video games.

The game with mario with a shotgun was a homebrew or a pirate, I think. It was called Super Mario War. I'd say Kart Fighter is the shittiest rom I ever played.

I think it'd be kind of cool to have a 16-bit character running around in an 8-bit world, like he's trapped in an nes or something.

Frank! Good to see you back! I know this should be a PM, but it contains info anyone interested in the hack should also know;

We've made more improvements to the game since the version of the hack that Frank has. There's a new weapon, and both players can choose the same character now (There's still a few bugs with that feature though.) Also we had a few people submit a couple new levels, and cleaned up some other bugs in the levels that I can't really remember right now. I kind of lost interest in the project and rom hacking in general, but since I see people are still interested in the zamn hack, I'm gonna try to clean up the latest version and release it within a week or so. I'll post screenshots sooner than that, too.

Well hopefully we can merge the new levels in your version with the new features in ours, and change all the level titles and have a full release. I sent you a PM with a link to our version.

here's some screenshots of a few new features we've added to the game.

Both players can now choose the same character in a 2 player game! If so, the first player's character will use a new palette. Unfortunatly there's still some bugs regarding points with this feature. In the third screenshot, you can see player 1 throwing the a weapon that was dummied out of the final version of the game that we brought back.

I programmed a new enemy, now you can make the vending machines attack the player with a barrage of soda. If the player blows up the machine, he's rewarded with a 6-pack.

In addition to these, your starting weapons and special items are now randomly picked by game, instead of always starting with 150 squirtgun shots and 1 health kit. Just thought it would make things a little more interesting. Most importantly, if you hold the select button, you can cycle through your weapon and item inventories backwards, which is extremely conveniant when you're being chased by a werewolf and need to find the silverware fast.

Right now we're not releasing this version until we get a few last bugs worked out with the 2-player mode. I'd be interested in seeing any levels you made, we still have a few un-edited levels in the hack as of now. Sloat (the other guy working on the ASM hacks with me) is going to release a new version of the level editor soon too.

I remember about a year or two ago seeing shots of someone's pet project that was SML1 with 16 bit graphics. Can't remember too much else about it, and I don't know what happened with it, but it looked really cool.

I don't know if you're the same guy who e-mailed me earlier about this, but in case you're someone else:

You can get the editor here at my friend matt's site, who programmed the editor: http://sloat.liek.us/

The hack, which we've been working on on and off (mostly off) for a few years now, is still unfinished. Most of the levels are done, and I also made a few other changes to the game:
*You can now cycle through your weapons and item inventory in reverse by holding down select.
*When you start the game you start with a random weapon and item instead of always starting with the squirtgun/healthkit.
*We restored a dummied weapon to the game - the banana.
*I coded a new enemy, some of the soda machines will hurl soda cans at you. You can kill them with a bazooka or monster punch, and you'll sometimes get a 6-pack of soda for doing so.

I made IPS patches of these two changes, but I don't have a website to put them anywhere. I was also working on making the game let both players choose the same character. The second player gets a differant palette if the characters are the same. Unfortunatly the game doesn't know who to give points to when you kill monsters this way, and I could never figure out how to fix that. If anyone wanted to take a shot at this bug, I'd be more than happy to share my notes.

Anyway, as soon as I find somewhere to post the IPS patches, I'll make them available. Until then, PM me if you want 'em
