Its been great havin you around. Youve done a lot for the community, and although your leaving may come as a shock to most people, im not surprised as i talk to you all the time. Its good that your work is being put to use, so its not a total waste. I know ill be crediting you for what you have helped me with.

Even though ill probably still talk to you, i hope you drop in from time to time.

Good luck in the future and best wishes,

Omega

Hmmm, im rollin in on the Caucasian middle class male at 19 years old. Im probably upperclass by income standards, but the cost of living in Vancouver is fairly high, and as MoN pointed out, that needs to be factored in.

His point is that you dont use a tracer/debugger to PLAY the game, just to gather info, so what does it matter what input your using?

You can also use Zsnes to get to the point you wish to trace from and then just use the save state with the Snes9x tracer. Not a big deal.

You guys are really beating this guy up. Sure, what he asked for may qualify him as deserving it, but i think we can be above that sort of thing.

My advice to Link_48329 as an experienced LTTP hacker is to find a dedicated partner, and work together to make a small demo hack. You really need to learn the ins and outs of Hyrule Magic. Seph's guide to HM will probably be a big help, and you should use the origional rom as a reference constantly to see how things are done. I still turn to the origional for reference, and i have been hacking LTTP for like 2 years.

Good luck.

Its been a while since there has been an update, and i have some good news, and some even better news!

The good news being that we have created a trailer for you all to enjoy. Now, what could possibly be better than that you ask? Well, our coder has mastered the event system in LTTP, so we will truely be creating an origional hack. This gives us unlimited flexibility with the story, which is quite nice. This of course will take more time though, so Dark Prophecy has been pushed back from this summer to a tentative release date of xmas 05.

Now, without further delay, i give you:

The Legend of Zelda: Dark Prophecy Official Trailer

http://www.savefile.com/files/8610556
- Best enjoyed full screen with an obscene volume
Enjoy

PS, here is another video for your enjoyment. Its dungeon only though.

http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=4107067

A few notes about the videos. We made a concious choice to not include any of the new gfx in the videos. We want to save them for the final release. Also, the second video is mainly from the same dungeon, so it does not reflect the whole game, just a very small portion of it. The dungeons in Dark Prophecy are quite varried in style and layout.

Thanks guys. Its really great to have support. If there are any questions, ill do my best to answer them. Ask away.

As for those who just download and watch, please leave feedback. We spent a long time on these videos, and a post detailing what you thought of it isnt much to ask in return.

^^ Heh, the second video has a metal soundtrack. The music from the official trailer is actually from Baiten Kaitos. I found it last night at like 4am, and i knew i had to use it. I had 2 previous versions before this one.

Dudeman had been bugging me to make this video for months, so i finally decided to do it. Dudeman only had dungeon footage, cause i hadnt made any overworld stuff yet, so he decided to make his own video with just the dungeon footage. Later on that evening i made the LW footage myself, and put it together. I think i finished at about 7:15 am. I think it turned out well though, so im happy.

And, yes, trailers instead of demo's is a great idea. I mean, this trailer only took me like 8 hours in total including capturing the footage. It would probably take me 25 hours minimuim to put together a DP demo. Things change when your looking at a game like SMW though.

I knew someone was going to comment on the playing. It was me playing for the overworld sequences, and dudeman during the dungeon stuff. I wasnt trying to play well, i was trying to capture footage, which is more complicated than it seems.

Anyways, thanks for the compliments.

Ahh the time old debate of releasing on time...

Its gonna be close. I say this cause i dont know how school/work is going to affect development. We do have multiple people workin in this, so i predict that it will become harder to get together all at the same time. I have faith that we will get it done though.

That is really cool... but i would rather play it on a real n64 with lower res textures. If they can find a way to play it on a TV with a 64 controller without paying a ton for hardware, then im all for it.

In fact, i may build myself an emulation computer specifically for TV out... that would be cool.

I also highly recommend IDA. It is the best dissasembler out there. Decompilers dont really work well, so i would give up on them and not waste ur time.

IDA does a good job of distinguishing strings, data, and code... it also has support for the ARM processors (gameboys use ARM processors). I use IDA a lot, but never for hacking roms, so im not sure how it would do with a gba rom, but why not give it a shot. Its hard to find a copy on the net, but you can download the demo for free and try it out. I think it has a limit of like 32kb executables though which sux... could probably find a nice crack for it. I wouldnt know though, as my copy is legit.

Good luck.

People dont seem to understand just how much work goes into a good hack. I think that only people who have created an awesome hack that is well known to prove that they have the skills and dedication should be able to suggest hacks. Even then, someone with those accomplishments wouldnt even think about making a rom request cause they know how stupid it is.

You could try comparing. Hex Workshop has that feature, but you should really learn to keep backups. I lost a lot of work before i became paranoid about backups. Now i have like 300 Zelda 3 roms for Dark Prophecy all in various stages of development... Better too many than waste a hundred hours.

You could probably save your work by copying over the level data (if you can find it all in a nice chunk) to a fresh rom. Just an idea.

Good luck.

I gotta say, as much as i hate pressure, i really do an amazing job under constraints all the time. Of course, fake pressure from a rom hacking board isnt my biggest concern though... haha, nice try though.

Edit: I have also chosen the music for the next trailer which will be downloadable like a week before official release or so, and its so badass.... I love it. Also, if anyone has any ideas on music to use, i would be happy to consider em. Just PM me or somethin.

Ahh, yes, THE LIST... hahaha, nah dude, sry i havent had a chance to sit down and make it yet. Ive been busy with work and helping my brother move into his new house these last few days. In fact, i got another offer today for an awesome job that pays like $70k a year. Not bad for a 19 year old.

Too bad i turned it down to go to college instead......... stupid college always getting in the way of things..... Oh well, at least its still there for me if i want it in a year.

Anyways, right, the list... should be done relativly soon. Maybe by monday. Ill probably talk to you by then, but if i dont, ill email it to you.

THX.
