The ear seems small? Hmmm... Didn't really notice that, might be because I've got really small ears myself . About the lower leg, it might be a little crooked in the middle, could that be it? Perhaps I'll see if I can straighten it up a bit.

You can enable or disable layer priority for each individual 16x16 tile in the map16 editor. However, that's only a matter of priority being on and off, there's no way of setting different levels of priority.
By the way, the pirahna plants usually go behind tiles even if layer priority is disabled so I guess they've got some special priority setting, but that probably doesn't help when you've been messing around with the rom like that?

Someone's been abusing phpMyAdmin. In an attempt to stop this, I've demoted everyone and will now try to keep things from being royally fucked up by this person.

As soon as Acmlm finds out who's abusing access, you will (likely) be repromoted to your former positions.

Sorry about the inconvinience.

Posted on 08-29-05 02:59 AM, in Starfox worth keeping? Link
A while ago, I bought Starfox: Assault at my local game store for 599 swedish crowns (=77,54 USD). However, after having finished it a few times and trying to get enough silver badges to play Xevious I realised it was not at all as fun as I had expected. So i've been thinking about selling it back to the store and buying Paper Mario 2 instead. If I sell it back I will get 150 crowns (=19,42 USD) less than what they would sell the game for if it was previously owned, that means I'd probably get about 200 crowns (=25,89 USD) for it and would only need an additional 399 crowns (=51,65 USD) to buy Paper Mario 2 that also costs 599. So my dilemma is: should I give up on Starfox Assault and sell it back or should I give it another chance and wait until I have enough money to buy Paper Mario 2 at full price?

That's aside from all the gold medals or anything. Paper Mario 2 seems good from the amount I've played, except that it's too expensive. I'd wait and see if they'll "Player's Choice" it. At least, if Nintendo does that in your country. I went through Paper Mario 1 four times, then stopped as to not be forced into overwriting a save. Are you in a PAL TV region? I'm not familar with it. Anyway, you'll the new game.
I never rent games, mostly because I want the time to discover and get every single little thing in a game when I play it. Sadly, that urge for absolute completion hasn't been there with Starfox: Assault and that's probably the biggest reason for my dissapointment, it just didn't entertain me in the same way that Lylatwars (PAL name for Starfox 64) did. We have Player's Choice here and I was planning on waiting for the price to go down, but Paper Mario 2 has been out for quite a while and I'm longing to lay my hands on it.
Yeah. $77 is really a kick in the crotch, but that's what all new big games cost here. If we're lucky, the price will then drop to around $45 after a while.

Well, I have an old Snes. I can't afford more than one console every generation as I'm just a poor student who has to eat and games at $77 aren't making it any easier

Buying it used actually seems like a very good idea, I'll call the store tomorrow when I get home (from my first day at the university of Lund, one of the best universities in all of Sweden ) and see they if have it.

Try learning the program by yourself before you start asking questions, it's not as hard as it seems.

No, I will not get a GB micro, I would rather get a DS when I get some money over. Couldn't find that answer in the poll though . Actually, my first reaction on the GB micro was "That's just stupid! Who'll want to buy that?". Then again, I'd like to see myself as a veteran gamer and the GB micro wasn't made for veteran gamers.

I was actually playing around with MWR the other day in an attempt to figure out what some of the unknown functions really do. I was in a bit of a hurry, but I managed to make some interesting findings about the first GFX-related byte. The first number of the byte has actually nothing to do with the sprite's graphics, but uneven values makes the sprite immune to fire balls. The second number determines the pallette and GFX page, I tried some values and found a pattern:

ValuePallette #GFX page
060x2
180x3
290x2
390x3
4A0x2
5A0x3
6B0x2
7B0x3
8C0x2
9C0x3
AD0x2
BD0x3
CE0x2
DE0x3
EF0x2
FF0x3

I haven't tried all the values out so I cannot guarantee it being 100% correct, but this should solve your problem.

The only value breaking the pattern is 0 which strangely enough gives pallette 6. This is really peculiar as pallette 6 is a FG/BG pallette and not a sprite pallette.

Simon, if you break those hex values down to binary, you could tell a lot more. And if the number being odd or even decides it, that means that the first bit in that byte decides if it can be killed with fireballs.

And the first bit of the second number decides the GFX page. However, I doubt that the majority of the SMW hackers would feel more comfortable using binary than hex while hacking.

But for those who are interested:
YYYAXXXB
Where A=0 -> killable by fireballs while A=1 -> immunity to fireballs.
And B=0 -> GFX page 0x2 while B=1 -> GFX page 0x3
The value of the three Ys doesn't matter at all and the value of the three Xs determines the sprite palette number starting from 0. There you have it.

Whoops, wrong by me. It should of course be page 0x2.
Edit: Another correction, It should be 8 bits, not 16. I'll correct it in my previous post.

Here's the final result for those of you who are too lazy to scroll up and check:

With the exception of 000 which strangely enough gives palette number 6. Hmmm... that means you can't have a sprite with palette 8 that lies on page 0x2
