The GFX for MY area of the hack will NOT look like this. It'll be an Ice cavern that will brighten up the Metroid series and will possibly appear like you are outdoors.

Jathys must be updating the site or something, not sure what's going on...

You can expect this tileset to look a lot like the Phendrana Drifts area from MP. It will not be a dark and dreary underground but a bright and active snow/ice surface. Maybe ice versions of the Magmoor also.

The motor that spins the disc either has juice/something sticky (no comment) in it or it has burned out. This occurs a lot in GameCubes and is not an uncommon problem. Either get a whole new drive or get the little tiny motor that spins the disc. You might be better off getting a broken GameCube off of Ebay.

Are you going to give it .pal file supposrt? I also like the line tool, the square tool, the circle tool, and all the ones that YY-CHR has. Very useful.

Its very strange, I had the desire to put ice GFX in it when I first played Super Metroid! I guess great mins think alike!

If you want, I can help you with your tilesets for your hack. I just need a good Tile Table editor...

Well, I have a DS and PSP. I modded my DS so now it is metallic blue with a blue SMD LED and White for low battery, and also charging. Those things are so damn small!

Some Sounds are also awful in SMRPG... mostly the sound effects for actins in battle... What version do you guys suggest for that one?

Now, the ASM hacks are really cool, and really original, but I'd like to see some more originality in the level design. While you have some good GFX changes in there, you also have parts of the old levels in there. One rule I follow by in level design is I completely wipe out the level and start anew. This eliminates the accidental habit of following with the level.

But really good looking imo. keep it up!

Here is what you should do if you want to make a red Mario Bros.

USE MORE SHADES OF RED!

Sort of like what I did with Metroid, but only blue...

I used way more shades of blue that makes it look sort of like a SNES game.

I faked the gray ones. they were originally the light blue set but changed to look more like the SM doors. Ill make a grey palette and work the blue palettes some more so they fit right.

But i might experiment a little bit with Custom Palettes so I am not limited.

Well, another thing... I need a block that would make itself and blocks above it change to the next tile in the Map16 page (when touched) then go to the next block after that.

Maybe you can improve my idea.... I am trying to make a functioning Super Metroid door for my hack. whenever mario (or something) touches it, it "opens"...I wanted to do a series of on/off switches right before and after the door so as to create a proximity switch for it, but that didnt work as well...

Ok, here's the thing with custom palettes. If you want the custom palettes, then use them. If you don't, then don't download the hack or just awe at the giant eyesore courtesy of the NES. What the fuck are we hacking for? To stay with the shitty technology? Hell no! The reason we emulate is for the state of nostalgia. If you want to keep the custom palettes for the sake of nostalgia, then you must want the original levels and GFX too. That being said, Disch can go fuck himself.

Talent is creativity. When it comes to NES hacking, you don't HAVE to work around the limitations thereof. That's not talent. Its EGO. If you have talent, then you can do great things, regardless of palette. Or anything else for that matter. Sure, you have one more file to download and load in the emulator... is that so bad though?

Custom palettes are clearly better.

I think what Disch is saying is that when you negate the limitations of the NES, it is no longer the NES. And Dr. Mario seems to say that custom palettes make a game look better. Why can't BOTH be right?

IF Disch means what Kefka thinks he means, then that makes Disch a hypocrite.
Xtreme NES thingy

That's not negating any of the NES stuff?

The palettes for the new door is faked but the GFX are there. Making a custom palette to override the lack of colors available.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!

I am going to note this in my list of funniest n00b questions! In fact, this is going on number 2.

Back on topic, and IPS is designed to avoid distributing ROMs, which is breaking the law. Its just a file containing changes made to the original file to be applied as a patch later on. It IS currently legal to distribute these. More information in the FAQs.

I dont know if this will be closed or not, because I still have something to contribute. I will be joining this project for sure, and be doing some serious level design, and possibly a lot of the GFX. Whenever we get most of the ASM done, we will be ready for starting this hack. Remember, the hack's name isnt just "alliance" for nothing......

I built my SNES PC Gamepad. All you need are a DB25 port and connnector (the big huge parallel printer cable) some diodes and a SNES pad. If you send me the controller and stamps to ship it back, ill build it for you. I can also leave the SNES port on there so you will still be able to use it on a real SNES.
