Wow, I guess i'm just not interesting. All mine are titled "Local Drive" I guess I just like the default more than thinking up my own. Interesting thing about my drives, for some reason, A:\ - H:\ were taken up by my floppy, dvd, dvd-r, and four usb drives that are non existent so my first hd starts at I:\ and goes to K:\. I could change it, but i kinda like the high letter drives instead of the usual C.

Interesting, but I gotta go with wind because when you're tossing disc you can really bomb them if you catch the wind just right. ANd wind never stopped me from anything, and water can, and earth can hurt when you fall on it, and well, i guess i'm a pyro, but fire hurts a lot when you touch it. I guess i'd have to go with wind, except when the wind blows the solar panals that heat you pool off the roof and you half to hang 3/4 of your body out the window while your tiny mom is holding on to your feet for dear life just so nothing gets ruined by the swinging panels.

um quick question, if you're going to buy the harddrive, why don't you just buy an external. I ahve one, they aren't that expensive, and it works great.

I like to keep up on games from a couple of forums and from my one game magazine, Game Informer. I enjoy hearing about games I'm interested in and seeing how they develope (like RE4, when back in the day it was gonna be set in some futuristic lab and what not, but that didn't happen, and the game was still increadbile). I find a lot of the editorials in GI really good and entertaining, and they've started monthly comentaries on different aspects of the gaming industry and long interviews with big (and sometimes small) players in videogames. Though not all of their reviews are that good, I find that there are a handful of reviewers (like Reiner) that I can always trust. Basicaly, you find the people in gaming magazines that have the same preferences as yourself and go with them. This might take awhile, but eventually you'll find someone that reviews games perfectly to how you view games. Also, whenever I go to buy a game, I usually go with the intention of picking up a game, and end up spending at least a half an hour deciding between that one game and five others, almost always going with one of the other games. And occasionaly, well, actually, frequently, I find myself at the mall or bestbuy and just decide to buy a game, but that only happens when i got extra cash on me, and that's not too often.

Um, R2H2, that'd be just crazy. You can have a 1 gb memory stick for about 150 or something like that, or have a 120gb for 100. In my book, there's no decision there, just get the one that's cheaper and more memory.
I see your point about the price, i didn't realize that it'd be that big of a difference. I figured with tossing in the casing and cords taht it'd be closer to the price of a regualr external.

Okay, so is it possible to get iTunes on linux, or a emulation of it, cause i can't use any of my music cause it's encoded in apple files that won't work on anything but itunes and i don't wanna take the time to convert them to normal files. If anyone knows of a way to get around this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I'm using Ubuntu right now.

Well, that's not exactly true. The amount of subsidies that the U.S. government gives to farmers is a joke. It's going to destroy the mexian farming when NAFTA finally kicks in fully and allows the U.S. to step in and take over farming down there. Also, it ahs greatly hindered our ability to speciallize our growing. We haven't made any major advances in farming in the past couple of decades, and that is because we haven't needed to because farmers are getting paid to not need to advance. So I would say that farming is being well supported by the U.S. government and that it is never going away as long as farmers represent such a significant voting block.

Posted on 05-31-05 10:15 AM, in Games Getting Easier? Link
I definately think that games are easier, but I think that's because i've been playing for almost two decades now. For me, OoT was a piece of cake. The first time through I died a handful of times and got through most of the puzzles relatively quickly. But take my friend who hasn't really been playing games all that long, he's always struggling to figure out the puzzles and dying all the time and constantly having me show him what to do. I don't think he's bad, but he definately doesn't have that gaming ability that comes with playing games for a long time. I see a switch, I know that I have to hit it and that there probably is a timer for it. I guess that players that have been around for a long time just see what needs to be done with puzzles a lot sooner than players that are newer to the games. I remember the first time I played RE1, it took me forever to beat it, but by the time REnemesis came out there wasn't a single puzzle that took me more than one wasted attempt. I'd also say that (at least with a lot of the people here probably) that more experienced gamers just know when things work. I find that I'm able to do runs in games that other more casual gamers just aren't. Like with Mario64, there are some jumps that I can pull off that my friends never even thought to try, and then cannot pull off because they just don't have the timing or something. I guess it's sort of a video game skill that's been honed throughout the years. So I'd just say that games aren't really getting that much easier, it's just that those who've played for a long time are getting a lot better, which makes us appreciate those games that are truly great.

Honestly, any set of number systems is totaly pointless. Do people really go to the store and think about what they buy. When I go to get stuff I think, hmm, too big, nope too small, ahh, just right. And with temperature, it's like, walk outside, feel cold, put on a jacket, walk outside, feel hot, take of shirt, you know, numbers in general are for losers (unless those numbers are for engineering, then it's just for pain and suffering).

Well, I've never played the game, but isn't viteful joe (or however it's spelled) a side scroller. Cause if it is, there's a big exception to your rule cause that game got rave review from everyone. Also, I know what you mean by playing old games, i spend the majority of my game playing on classic games from nes, snes, and genesis. Don't know, maybe i'm thinking back on childhood, or i just haven't played those games in a long time, or just can't afford new games. Who knows, but i do think that side scrollers are starting to fade. I loved the metroid games on GBA/SP, those were great, but still, they aren't going to be coming out in great numbers like back in the day when side scrollers were as common as GTA clones are today. I hope that a market for side scrollers opens. Maybe in the future side scrollers will be left to smaller companies who don't have much money but have really creative ideas and they will make glorious side scrollers cause tehy aren't as hard to make (not even sure how much easier they are to make.).

First, do not, I repeat, do not buy any of the Desktop replacement laptops, as great as the power on those might look, it completely takes away from the main use of a labtop, portability. Not only does it weigh more than 15lbs it also ends up with basicaly an hours worth of batery, which is not good. Go for a laptop that has some decent batery life cause that's what you'll really want out of it. If you want something really powerful, don't waste the money of a laptop, just get a desktop. Also, I've bought two computers from iBuyPower and they were both great. I made the mistake of getting a gaming laptop so it had no batery life, but their other laptops have good baterly life. The only problem with getting it through them is they don't really have customer support, they expect you to know enough about computers to fix most problems yourself. They'll help you fix/replace parts in your computer if it's a hardware problem, but they don't really deal with software issues. It's cheaper than Dell and teh like, but still, not free, so check them out.

Posted on 06-20-05 01:10 AM, in Apparently I've been here for a year. But there's another purpose to this thread, I promise. Link
I've been at ACMLM for 3 years and have been from completely innactive to posting daily. Let's get this going like the rest, in the past year i've...

+Made so many new friends
+Dealt with a year of college
+Handled a roommate from hell
+Improved my relationship with my family
+Found way too many new bands to fit onto my shuffle
+Gotten completely ebliterated, and realized that it's more fun to just be a little woosey
+Learned how to cope with being away from great friends for extended periods of time
+Finaly figured out what I want to do in life (working for Alpine Electronics, can't wait til internship next year)
+Found the woman of my dreams (or, at least for now, perfect as can be, but so far away)

I think that's pretty good for a year of being 19.

Fans, lots of them, and a really good freezer to stick the one item of clothing we wear in the bend, frozen boxers. Anything else makes you too hot. Damn hummidity and no form of airconditioning and a busted radiator that turns on as long as the temp is under 200 degerees.

I think the idea is great. Interestingly enough, I think that the people that would have the most trouble with a controler like that would be current gamers that are so used to their current controlers. I know that right now I'm completely comfortable with a PS2 and GCN controller, but strap me up with an XBOX controller and my thumbs ability to find buttons is completely shot. But I really like the idea, especially the bow and sword fighting and stuff like that. The only difficulty would be the need to calibrate the controlers at the begining of every game, because everyone has different grips and stuff, but i guess those could be saved to profiles and what not. And if the old GCN controller could be used for tradiational games that didn't want something new then I thinkit would be a great thing and I would definately get the new controller to try it on new and INOVATIVE games. But who knows, maybe an idea like that will never appeal to developers.

Speaking of timing be off, I'd say that this post is off.
I'm about halfway through my break, going back Aug13, and this is by far the least vacation of a summer I've ever had. Instead of relaxing and swimming and hanging out, I'm working at a hardware store and spending my free time either at the gym working out, playing basketball, or staying out way to late with friends. I get no rest, which is partially my fault, partially my jobs fault, and I can't wait til summers over. Not that I don't like the 90+ degree temperature, but I just wanna get back to college, the place where smart (those who enjoy life and don't stress over classes) people go to have fun, because, honestly, we're all in college for the parties, not for the degrees.

I graduated last year and it was a lot of fun, going to parties and stuff before and then Senior Grad Night afterwards, but then, when I finally woke up two days after graduation, it was really depressing, because I realized that I wasn't gonna see a lot of people that I had been going to school with for the past 13 years. I've only kept in touch with the best of my friends, I tried with some of my other friends, but the farther along into college we all got the less and less we talked and the less and less we had in common. I wish I hadn't lost touch with so many people, but I guess it's okay because now almost all of my friends are from college and the best friends I have are from college. This is the first summer I've had back from college and it's really wierd cause I talk to all my friends from college and stuff, which is great, but I can't really do much with them and the things that were a blast to do in college, like bowling, or just hanging out, are just not as fun with my old friends back here. I guess that's why I plan on getting an intership in Chicago or Detroit or somewhere around school instead of coming back home next summer.

I know what you mean Yiffy Kitten, but sometimes (or maybe most times) money is a much greater deciding factor than framerate. If you have the money, get a really good card, but if you don't and you're not used to playing games at anywhere near 60fps then you'll be fine with a lower card. But if you can wait a bit, I'd say save up and get a card for 200 or so and have a really good time with games that play really well.

Well, my pics are large and I don't feel like shrinking them so just click the link if you want.
PIC1
PIC2

As for the specs
Processor : P4 3.2gHz 2mb cache 64bit 800 mHz fsb
Vcard : GeForce 6600 256mb PCIe
Scard : Sound Blaster Audigy-2 ZS 7.1
Memory : 1 gb
HDs : 2 x 80gb and 1 x 120 gb eternal
Case : Raidmax Scorpio-668 Aluminum
Power Supply : 500 watts
Network : onboard lan and wireless pci card
Monitor : 17" Sceptre LCD
Sound : 2.1 sicuro system (and a 5.1 Klipisch at my bro's house for storage over the summer that's a 500 watt system, yay for loud speakers and strong subs)

Well, someone peed on my old computer so the insurance bought me a brand new one, which is amazing. It's got three fans, I'm thinking of moving the one on the side window to the front and getting a color led fan. Also, it's got a blue cathode on the bottom and I want to add another one near the top to get better lighting in the case. The motherboard was made by Abit and i bought the computer from iBuyPower. I really like the computers they have there. My hard drives are split into four partitions each (minus the external which is well over halfway filled with music). The main HD is a 60 gb winXP and the rest is Ubuntu linux, but I'm going to put on a Gentoo Distro cause I don't really like Ubuntu. The second hd is split into four partitions one for games, pictures, websites, and school work. Here's a full screen print screen of my desktop with partition magic showing the HDs. And my background is a picture of a bunch of my friends and me in the freezing cold (or inside trying to hide from being in the freezeing cold).

Most of my NES and SNES games because, well, I was young and stupid but always ended up loving my games. But ever since I was concious of my decisions, I'd say the best unknown games I've gotten were, Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenogears, Brave Fencer Musashi, RE, RE2, and RE3 (all three bought for 5 bucks a pop from my bro's friend), and Final Fantasy 6. Interesting thing about FF6, because of that game, I bought a PlayStation three months before FF7 came out so that I could buy that game, and I bought just about every magazine with anything FF7 and when I finaly got the game I played through the first five hours over and over until about a month passed and I finally had the cash to buy a memory card and really play the game. I guess that's a case of the exact opposite of the topic, but I think it's funny, so I post.

Worse part, getting rid of my main man in Xenogears. Not gonna really explain it more cause it'd ruin the story, but if you've played the game, it happens near the end and you lose one of the most bad ass characters in video game history.
