I got a 31 on the ACT when I took it in April, and that was even with running out of time on the math portion.

My advice would be to watch the clock, pace yourself so you don't run out of time...and if you're almost out of time, fill in random answers...there is no penalty for guessing(unlike SAT).

Also, it's about four hours of nearly uninterrupted testing, which is bad for people like me who have to use the bathroom more often than a 3-year-old on a long car trip.

I believe the first GUI was developed by Xerox in the 70's...probably, some other company would release a GUI-based computer in the absence of the Mac (Commodore and Atari were still strong in the computer market when the Mac was released).

Um....you say you type perfectly, yet you spell my name wrong. It's e before d. (Sorry, I just had to say that.)

There's nothing wrong with typos though, as long as they aren't too frequent...

Um...I think that was my first post about Civ on the whole board (not counting the old board).

Besides, the leading Civ message board is so active, it makes Acmlm's look deader than dead. It's not unusual there to have 250+ people online at the same time.

Posted on 02-28-05 03:22 AM, in What does the ` character do in PHP? Link
I have seen some examples of MYSQL queries in PHP code, where parts of the queries are enclosed in ` characters (the back quote, not the normal single quote ' or double quote "). What does this mean, and when, if ever, is it necessary?

I am in the very early stages of writing a major PHP/MYSQL-based application, and I have never needed the `, nor seen an explanation of its use. All I know is that someone told me it's insecure...

P.S. I am no longer a total PHP noob, I've figured out a lot of how the language works and whatnot, and have even completed a few PHP programs.

I know the SAT recently added a writing section...don't know about ACT...

I wonder how many people they'll have to hire to grade those zillions of essays...

This is a rough outline of my schedule, Monday through Friday. Some things are subject to change depending on the day.

6:30 AM - Wake up.
7:00 AM - Go online for about an hour before school starts. Eat at the computer.
8:00 AM - Go to school.
3:30 PM - Get home from school. Eat.
4:30 PM - Go outside for a bit, unless it's too cold (which it almost always is).
5:30 PM - Do whatever I feel like doing.
8:00 PM - Shower, shave, wash hair, brush teeth, etc.
8:30 PM - Go online, eat at computer sometimes. Do homework if I have any (which is rare now, it used to be almost every day).
10:30 PM - Go to sleep.

I know that DOS was stolen from an operating system called QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System), which was in itself a ripoff of CP/M (can't remember what it stands for)...

Apple DOS was nothing like MS-DOS though...and Commodore DOS was even more different, for instance, the command to format a disk was "N0:NAME OF DISK,ID". And Commodore DOS existed on the actual disk drive, not the computer.

Hey, keep your cold weather up there!!! I was wondering why I was freezing my ass off this morning. We always leave the a/c on at 70F, sometimes lower, and I woke up in the middle of the night, a bit on the cold side. Now that I look at the temps, I know why; its 62F out. Figures....I had plans to go to the beach today.

62F? It's 21F here. Seriously, 62 degrees is warm.

And we had half a snow day today. School was open in the morning, but closed in the afternoon.

I had a snow day in mid-April a couple years ago.

Actually, all the staff forums I've been to at various boards have had very little spam, it was just "board business."

March 18th...hmmm, it's the day after St. Patrick's Day. And the day in 2003 that I first used IRC (I remember because it was the day after St. Patrick's Day).

Just three days from now will be my three year anniversary of registering at Acmlm's. I have no idea why I'm still here, but I am.
