There's no railway up here, so we're stuck with the purple First buses (they used to have these old yellow things that made this awful noise when they stopped... they got rid of those a while ago, though), and a few Munro's ones... They definitely don't go at 186mph, either Seems more like 26 most of the time.

What is public transport like in the US, anyway?

I was raised with nothing, and I still have nothing (in terms of religion).

I'm boring.

There's a religion called Celtic? ...Well, considering how well they're doing in the SPL just now...

No contest there, I'm afraid

Economic Left/Right: -2.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.44

I'm further to the left than I thought, but I don't really believe in socialism (or communism, for that matter) so it is a bit surprising.

Here, we don't have the Queen on our notes, just coins. Still, I think this country should have a monarch... it makes the country more unique, if you know what I mean.

I've been off school for the last two days - I twisted my shoulder when I was walking to school, and it was really painful to move my right arm... It's getting better now though.

Posted on 03-19-04 02:31 AM, in Gay Marriage (again) Link
My opinion on this matter is that gay marriage should be made legal, full stop. I think it was Lucrecia that said it was a matter of semantics - religion may have brought about the word "marriage", but if it were renamed "civil union" (or even "ajifjoiejfoe", for that matter!) would it be the same? Languages have evolved quite a lot over the last millennium or so, so much so that it would be difficult for most of us to read any literature from 1000 years ago in an unedited form. So who's to say that the church were the people who brought the word about?

I don't think religion should play much of a part in law, either - there were times in the past when it did, and those were times when witches were burnt at the stake - I doubt anyone would agree with that nowadays.

The problem with religion being involved in law is that the religion's framework could have been edited in the past, as well (they didn't exactly have multiple tape backups with password protection back in the 1st century, did they? Considering the authoritarian nature of several British rulers of later times, anything could have been slipped in or edited between then and now, and nobody would know - think of the world population's literacy rate back then...!)

That's my rant over, for now, anyway.

There's not been a murder around here for ages now - I can't honestly remember the last time there was one on the news.

This area of town might look a bit run-down, but hey - the crime rate is so low that a new-ish bike can be left on a street - not protected or anything - and it won't be touched for days! (I think the owner put it back into the close at number 4 after Friday night...)

It snowed here (southern Borders) today as well, but it only stuck for about an hour or so.

We're looking at a bit more sleet over the next week, but after that we should be into Spring!

It's just that, it's a bit different for Australia compared to other constitutional monarchies for two reasons. Firstly, our monarch is a foreign national who lives on the other side of the world and doesn't really know much of anything about Australia.
And secondly, her appointed representative here has actually screwed around with our government before in most controversial circumstances - showing that the system is flawed.

I agree with you about not having a monarch in Australia - it does seem a bit pointless, come to think of it

Hmm... back when I was 11 or so, about the time when I started puberty, I seemed to have a sex drive, which seemed strange to me at the time. It's all but faded away now - it seemed to last a year or so, and that was it. (I'm guessing it probably wasn't a sex drive, rather a peer pressure drive!)

Don't worry... if you're happy like that, then chances are you're fine I'm pretty sure it isn't coming back to me though, I'm not exactly the most sex crazed person ever

My favourite is French - I was the best in the year last year in terms of prelims, and I'm looking at a more or less definite 1 in the Standard Grades.
Next favourite is most likely Computing, I'm doing self-study in it next year (H-grade, that is) - started the work just now to lighten the load a bit

My least favourite is... hmm, probably PE. I'm crap at it!

I use 1024x768 here, but the 300+ RM computers at the school all run 800x600.

I still think 800x600 should be the standard, though, because not everyone has the cash to afford a larger monitor (in terms of 1024x768 looking reasonable, that is - 17" seems to be the best for that)
