in particular, 'filter' with a colon after it was disabled. besides, it doesn't work for me whether in your profile or in posts (were I to have layouts turned on), since such things are IE-specific.

why prevent loading new browser windows? that's just irritating, especially to someone like me; I regularly open new browser tabs when looking through a site. (BTW, I do that using the middle mouse button, in Mozilla Firebird).

when designing a web page, you are merely providing suggestions on how the site should operate (look, work, etc) on the client's computer. in the end, the client ought to have the final say. trying to take away the client's ability to interact with the site in whatever way he/she sees fit* is a Bad Thing, which in my opinion ranks right up there with pop-up advertisements or ok/cancel "vote for me" boxes. it'd be like being forced to put on a pair of handcuffs while at the site.
I'm saying these things as a fellow web designer, not just as a user.

and like modereb said, people will find backdoors. the thing is, people shouldn't have to*.

* except for something which could cause harm to you and/or the server on which your site is hosted; such as DoS attacks or stealing content.

wrong. there are numerous gods, too many to count. the fact that people believe in different gods is proof that there are other gods. whether you choose to believe in any of them is up to you. you've chosen to believe in the christian god, to the exclusion of every other god out there.

atheists simply believe in one fewer god than you do.

heh. in game 3, the pistons well and truly dominated the lakers, and won it 88-68.

the pistons dominated the lakers in games 1 and 3, and the lakers were lucky to even win game 2. if the pistons keep their engine running the way it has been, and the lakers don't make any drastic changes, I'm prediting the pistons will win this series in game 6.

I'm rooting for the pistons in this series, although I'm not so much rooting for the pistons as much as I am rooting against the lakers. 'my' team is the portland trailblazers, and they were swept out of the first round in the playoffs in 98 and 99- both times by the lakers- but managed to make it to the western conference finals in 2000... against the lakers. they made it all the way to game 7, and up until the fourth quarter were winning the game... then they decided they didn't want to score anymore. the lakers won that, and went on to defeat the pacers in the finals. the blazers could have beaten the pacers... so we were that close to a championship. I'm still pissed about that.

lenophis is rooting for the pistons for the same reason as I am, although 'his' team is the minnesota timberwolves, who made it out of the first round this year and got to the western conference finals, but were shut out by the lakers, 4-2.

when the series began, I figured that the pistons were the underdogs. with detroit's resounding game 1 and game 3 victories- and the fact that the lakers were lucky to even win game 2- I'm beginning to believe the pistons may really win this series. and I'm hoping they do. rasheed wallace- who was playing for portland in 1999-2000 (among other years)- wants retribution for the 2000 western conference finals, and so do I.

the Chicago Bulls were the 1998 champions. http://www.nba.com/history/awards_finalschampsmvp.html

anyhow, Pistons lead 3-1. according to the poll on nba.com, it seems most people think the Pistons will take it in game 5. but if the Lakers' performance in game 4 is any indication, they seem to be figuring out a way to survive... as I predicted after game 3, I still think the Pistons will take it in game 6... maybe game 5, or perhaps 7 if the Lakers continue to improve. I very highly doubt the Lakers will win the series, though... but if they can learn the lesson the Pistons are teaching them, I'll be happy for them. Regardless of how it ends, the series is certainly sobering for Lakers fans.

it's funny... at first, I was hoping the Pistons would win... after game 3, I believed they could win... and after game 4, I believe they will win.

yeah, I agree. I was rooting for the Jazz in their two finals appearances, both times against the Bulls. Jazz fans have mixed reactions to Malone having switched to the Lakers, many of whom are along the line of "I hate the Lakers, but I'm grudgingly rooting for them just to see Malone win a championship". I think Malone ought to get a championship at some point... but if he wanted me to root for him in a Finals appearance, he picked precisely the worst way to go about doing it. I respect Malone, but he picked the wrong team to join... so until he ditches the yellow and purple jersey, I say the hell with him. He should've joined the Pistons, ya?
Bring him up to Portland... then I'll be rooting for him all the way!

Shaq, on the other hand... I'm beginning to respect him. With much of the Lakers throwing hissy fits at the referees, Shaq has kept his emotions in check, taking it like a man.
But it still doesn't mean I'm anywhere near rooting for the Lakers just yet. I still think they can go straight to Hell™ for game 7 of the 2000 western conference finals. I'm sure Rasheed Wallace (who lost to the Lakers that night) feels the same way.

But I digress. The Game 5 show starts in three hours from now, with tip-off a half-hour later (assuming ABC doesn't run commercials over it like they did with Game 4 ). The death of the Lakers seems imminent... not just in the series, but also as a team, as it appears that Kobe Bryant will become a free agent after the season, and who knows if Payton or Malone will remain on board afterwards... assuming the Lakers lose the series, of course, which- barring hell and high water- will come to pass sometime before (or on) next sunday.

Indeed. I think this quote (from the Recap) sums it up the best:

The Pistons completed the biggest upset in NBA Finals history, toppling the mighty but misguided Los Angeles Lakers with a 100-87 victory that was entirely emblematic of a team triumphing over individuals.

My congratulations go out to the Pistons, and to Rasheed Wallace who finally beat the Lakers and won his ring.

With the Lakers looking to crumble, it's like everything has come out alright. Four years after that fateful game in 2000, I feel like I've finally gotten retribution.

Now if only the Blazers will actually make the playoffs next year...

then 29 in 30 games will be more tense and more dramatic, where every point means more; 1 in 6 games will be even more so; as opposed to simply being a race of nothing but scoring and the occasional free-throw (speaking of which, it takes a foul to go to the free-throw line, and those are exciting or at least interesting, aren't they?).

in short, the matches will be more technically sound rather than big and flashy. the pistons played a technically sound game; the lakers played the big-and-flashy game. the lakers, this season, could beat pretty much any other team at the big-and-flashy game; that's what got them to the finals. the pistons, however, played a different kind of game, forcing the big-and-flashy players to play on the pistons' terms.

we all know what the result was when they met in the playoffs.

in the end, only wins matter.

yeah; not all states have legalized gambling, and the age varies from state to state (I think). I know there's legalized gambling here in Oregon, but I'm not sure whether the age limit is 18 or 21, or if that depends on the casinos.

and the drinking age is 21 in most states.

as for my 18th birthday, the most I did was have a cigarette shortly after midnight going into July 23 2001, my first legal one. then I got some presents; don't remember what they all were. then life went on.
boring to most people, but it was just fine for me, seeing as I spend the vast majority of my time firmly planted in front of my computer.

I'd just like to point out that my "$$$$$" reply was specifically in reply to Toxic's post (before mine), and not a comment on the initial post or the thread as a whole. sorry, should have made that clearer.

Instead of being a whiner, I would keep that contract so that my team could get more quality players and have a shot at winning a championship. I just don't get people some times.

yes, it was made completely from scratch. I used a program called GraphicsGale to do it. it's along the lines of MS Paint, only better (with the glaring exceptions of not being able to draw with the right mouse button , that it's a bit buggy (e.g. it crashes if you have two files open and close one while it's maximized within the program window), and is shareware (as opposed to freeware))

yeah, the sword hilt sucks. I got too lazy when doing it. personally, I like her hair the best.

yeah, I know what the right mouse button does (it also performs a selection if you drag it across the image), but it doesn't do what I want it to do. photoimpact (my big, bad, burly image editor, along the same line as photoshop) has a nifty way to pick up colors: hold down the 'C' key to temporarily switch to the color-picker-upper tool, click the color you want, then release the C key to return to whatever tool you were using before.

as it is, the best I can do is bind a key to the 'swap foreground/background colors' function, which is better than nothing, although it's counter-intuitive and can get confusing if you switch colors rapidly.

or alternately, to load only the sets for the characters currently selected, and load new graphics over them when you change a character. that might take a lot of CPU time, though. you could hijack the "change the current character's sprite tile numbers" part to instead load in the new class's tiles into the pattern tables, without changing the sprite tile numbers.

I'd love to do the site part, although I need to get MySQL working on my computer, unless you can provide a server running PHP5+SQLite in which case I'm game.
