The only thing that I see might be an obstacle might be the processor mode and how it needs to be set to 16bit for the compare (since Y is 16 bit).

Translating it is not as easy as you might think. The Font is somewhere in the Rom in 1bpp. But it has aweful many codes that do smth (such as new line and so on).

Besides, there is already an english version - so why bother? If it is about the PCC and Celebi-event: People (read: Tauwasser) did already hack it back in into a German rom so it is possible and by far less work than re-translating it.

It probablyh as a "bad poké list" somewhere in the game and that's what you wanna find. It "expands" to the national dex, right? if that's the case just make either the 2 versions exactly the same or activate it with a switch or something (i'm pretty sure there should be a switch)

No. You actually just wanna do the following: Get a US and a JAP rom. Get Goldmap or something else, that can read the jap rom (so you'll need inis) and then look for the centre in the JAP rom and look for the map and mapheader in the US rom. Once done that you can just simply point the map header of the small center to the good, big and large center. Then copy ALL events and ALL scripts over (and do so either smart by NOT changing any 64k offsets) and change every textpointer to the appropriate text (which is actually ALL translated in the english rom).

The other scripts, for the celebi quest and so on can be activated by editing the in-game scripts. If i remember correctly, they are still there, but cut off from the main-scripts ( so they're useless and not pointed too).

For a kind of "walkthru" you might download my patch and apply it to a GERMAN pm_crystal rom and check out, what i did change and look for the kinda same stuff in the US rom. @ http://mitglied.lycos.de/qwertzuiop/FWb/pkc_crystal.zip

Kawa gave me the source to EliteMap, but I was told not to release it, or atleast thats what I automatically assumed. And no offense to EliteMap or anyone who worked on it, but updating or maintaining the code is a NIGHTMARE... I myself tried to fix it up and optimize it, and I found myself running into worse and worse and worse code buried within itself... . I am not saying it's a bad program, i'm saying the sourcecode gives me goose bumps. I've been coding VB6 for about 5 years now, and that is some HORRIBLE code.

It indeed IS a nightmare--- It's so many people's work in there (including mine) that it's pretty messy because people have different stiles. Most of it all the Problem is, that it was all added upon and not "unified" by one Person, but just fixed where it lacked It's very hard to trace and some functions use another 5 functions to do something later included in one function or so. Maybe SMB can make comments into the current code and release these, so people will at least know what they're looking at--- of course only if it is released afterall. (yes, i know there ARE comments in there...it just seems, they're not sufficient enough)

What Windows do u have and do you have all the directx stuff needed for it? Are you loading a rom or just opening the exe all by itself? Did you try re-downloading the exe?

Well then be sure that it supports this rom version. And be sure you have any directX at all installed (really any version should do. GM is crapping old). It's programmed in Delphi. And I also advise you to check for the romsize. I think it had some problems with roms bigger 2mb. (And i really mean no BYTE more than 2MB).
