When I was making holidays in Croatia some years ago, I saw something weird in one night when I was younger. It really looked like a kind of U. F. O., but turned out to be a plane; but since it was very dawn and only lights were on, I didn't see it first

In forums, I turn out anyway to write out the proper smiley codes than to click on them; I even made that, when *sigh* I used Internet Explorer in late 2002 still here.

Typing ;) for or :P for goes very quickly after time and goes faster than selecting the smiley from the toolbar..

But fixing the toolbar really would be great; people get distracted when they register using a non-IE browser and wonder why that toolbar, mentioned on register.php and editprofile.php, doesn't appear at all but simply doesn'T appear in a non-IE engine browser

The screens look interesting, considering this is a level only hack, but hey, I rather play a good SMB3 hack than a crappy hack with ultra-modern GFX. The color of the Thwomp in the last screen may be out of screen, but it is not bad in any case
And as stated in the readme, though DD's very good Super Mario Adventure was released some months ago, nobody should compare a new hack with that - it requires a little more skills, since SMA included a mass of ASM hacks too
As for the hack, time to download the file, extract the contents, patch the ROM and play it

Right-click -> View file info (or press ALT + 3), then the editor window should appear.
Make sure you have no other SPC plugin installed; as I couldn't acess NotSoFatso's GUI, since I had an additional NSF player installed then

Save files are containing ... well, save data
So they contain only location and values, like place where you saved last, your current and your max amount og HP, items and so on.

Compare it to a MIDI file which contains no instruments at all, but is a kind of score, containing the notes
Therefore it is much smaller, and since MIDI is a standard, can be played on any machine, only the synthesizer of the installed sound card change or will try to improve the quailty on your local machine

A standard save file usually is much smaller than a plain ROM, open up a file in an hex editor; checking the file size will show you already what I meant.

I like Setzer's Dice and Fixed Dice in FF6. Since damage is calculated by the value which lays on top after throw (six possibilites with Dance, 16 possibilites with Fixed Dice); give him a Genji Glove and Offering as relics, then equip both hands with dices.

He'll instantly end up in a walking tank, since the dices ignore the half-damage penalty of Offering (like AtmaWeapon too) and even ignore enemies' defenses

This is not uncommon to have a large number of threads here, since LM, as stated in some posts above, is really fairly easy to use and no other editor ever featured a that user-friendly UI in my existance.
Don't forget, LM became more and more popular; when I signed up in June 2002, there were a lot less threads here; the posting frequency was lower and most hacks were usually level only hacks - thus custom ASM hacks were rare in these games (still today, but we have more people who _could_ include them into their hacks ^^)

But I'm leading a german RM2k/3 forum; similar to LM the editor also has its few years and still people ask "What is a switch ?", "Why does the treasure chest open again and again when ?" or "I can pass water on my world map!"; but we gonna have to live with it.

That's the purpose of stickied threads or one FAQ.
On the other hand people usually don't read these stickied FAQs, even if you put them into font size 30 with blinking pink/white effects with twenty exclamation marks (a little exaggerated), some read, some don't read them.
There are advantgaes and disadvantages.

On the one hand threads are cluttered up; some of them may get into the "wrong" forum; some might not understand why there are two forums.
On the other hand, a separation into two forums

SMW Hacking Questions and Discussions
"General and technical, also ASM-related, stuff goes into this forum"

and

SMW Showcase
"Here goes all your hacks you want to present. Make sure to read thw FAQ before!"

That's one of the best hacks I've ever played; despite some glitches (already in Yoshi's House level - the floating berries; the non-fitting Mario's background together with the frame color on the world map window) it is very nice to play; GFX from SMB, Metroid and much more; along with nice level and weird level ideas - I only played until the first Ghost House in Donut Plains (the level is pretty much the original, except the Fishin' Boo up there (, it is great. Fix the glitches and mayb, after you're done try to mess with the overworld (don't forget to back up the ROM often) - and the first level in Donut Plains is waaaay to long, yes; and there's even mot midway point

Do you have onboard sound or an external sound card ?
If you have onboard sound and wanted to install an external sound card, go into the BIOS right after start and disable the audio device, it might be a conflict then.

If you don't have onboard sound or it is already deactivated:
Remove that PCI Multimedia Device entry from the device manager and restart. Windows should recognize that again. Make sure, you are using the right drivers; if that doesn't work, download the driver beforehand and put it somewhere (if zipped, extract them into a folder or put them on a disk/CD-ROM).

Usually you should install the drivers right after you put in the PCI card and Windows recognized it after showing the dektop ("PCI Multidedia Device" means, Windows doesn't recognized the exact model) - if that doesn't work, try installing these when the desktop loaded correctly and restart.

What type/manufacturer of an onboard sound card do you have ?
If you don't know, put down the case and search for the chip, like ES-1371 for a Creative Labs onboard chip; usually it should be recognized immediately when started up in Windows and got to the desktop.
Maybe the card even was disabled in the BIOS.
So restart, go into the BIOS (press F2, DEL or another key right after start, when the RAM counts up; depends from BIOS manfuacturer what to press) - the neccessary key usually is mentioned below at the bottom line.

The thing is, you need the mainboard drivers and not external drivers, so check your mainboard model, go to the manufacturer's homepage and download the most recent sound drivers and install them ...

Don't throw people into these things/roles
As for myself, I listen to different types of music (except pop nearly everything in the range between classical music and metal); but a person I know is definitvely NO metaller and he wears his hair very long. And my last two girlfriends also had their hairs longer (it's simply very nice) - on the other hand you can come up with the argument "Yes, but it has to fit to the person" - as I'm letting growing my beard anyway a little more - the hair just might be the right "support" for it; if bound to a pony tail in the back

For me it's just a sign of freedom - and I like to see both genders wearing their precious hair longer - in half a year I'll fetch a camera and make a shot of my hair. I anyway can't too much with that messy stuff more - and I already disliked too short hair when I was a child

To shorten my post - since I tend to speak/write more than neccessary - I want long hair, there's no way and even for money I won't let cutting back my hair - except slightly working on the hairpists once in a while

I don't want to pseudo-mod (= acting like a mod), but watch the date; rules are different, but that thread is almost _months_ old. So don't bump it; and according to your post you could have PMed him directly instead pusing that thread.

Nevertheless, this was not the purpose replying on that, of course:

As for AcmlmBoards in general: As everyone (should) know, it was created from scratch on; it still has no confirmation/user or admin validation system; but that is solved on other ways (admins have very frequent online times and ban instantly if required - not a gentle but an at least also successful way). So comparing it with commercial ones like phpBB, Ikonboard, vBulletin, Invisionboard and others might not hit everything correctly.

It can be implemented, just see Tuvai's board when it still was up - and a registration with randomly created image files might be fine - but even that could be bypassed if a hacker really tries to get into it. I'm not talking about script-kiddies who think they are great when they have one of those create-one-trojan-horse-with-one-mouseclick toolkits.

Mostly cookie problems
Access your config.php, what is your cookie path and folder ?

You might try out something like
path = http://www.battlepony.tk
folder = /forum/

Either with slashes right in folder, or put in the full URL without the slash in path and only a slash in folder.
You need to try out some other combos too. It depends also from the host itself how to set up the correct paths.

Edit: Weird, it worked before; since there are already a lot of threads. Did you install an AB hack recently which included changing some stuff in config.php ?

Posted on 08-10-04 10:51 AM, in Slowin' down the frames... Link
By the way, there is a rare number of games which even has more frames than ZSNES recognizes:
An example is Rudra no Hihou, a flying enemy:

Usually flying enemies have wings. But although I dumped every single frame using F1 -> Save snapshot/Increase frame, the "flap" happens between two commands using the menu
But other than else, all other enemies have normal frames which can be dumped easily. Just wondering; too bad animated GIFs doesn't allow very low delay times to make the frames having the same speed like in the original games (at least in RnH - like many enemies are extremely in their animation; fliyingh birds "Ornith" and so on).

(Yes, the eye should open and close, but that would be twice or even trice the frames that bird already has; planning for a rankset in the future somewhere is bad - huge number of frames and sometimes very (!) big dimensions )

Posted on 08-10-04 06:20 PM, in It seems I have too many passwords now. Link
I have three different passwords for all message boards I registered on. I'm using a longer one which is non-standard here (for me fairly easy to remember); but even if someone hacks my password in here, he/she cannot in any other messageboard, since I'm using that PW only in that board

The best passwords contain big and small characters, as long as possible and there should be numerals inro it; but on the other hand these are hard to remember - and then you can't login while at work - you'd have to look on a stupid sheet of paper. I hate it when I don't remember my password but have to look up it

Even the firewall cannot prevent these issues, since the required port(s) anyway need(s) to be open and any chat application requires server access

I had two name changes:

Started with GandalfTheSorcerer once (yes, without spaces )
Gandalf The Grey
Surlent - almost mostly fitting perfectly to my person - Rudra no Hihou fanatic, impressed from that wizard drawn by Squaresoft and his animations and his chapter in RnH

Hehe, I think about replacing it with the fitting Japanese characters later on - if that fails (most likely due to the different character encodings ), I might think about an image with transparent background, containing the Kanas/Kanji, thus that "image" might be my name - if that is supported here

But due to the new summary (mentioning everyone getting at least one vote), I improved. The last time I was not in the ranks, and now two votes. Need to get more active and ... crazy

phpBBs allow to change the user name, it's even able to change in the default build - simply enable that in the Admin CP

As for user name changes - no - don't wanna have running an "A. Hitler" or "superf**er" around here. Anyway I think some people abuse that already too much;sure it is nice, but to have the name changed every few days won't make it special anymore
