Also for me a nice thanks to Anya for the change
Now I'm at least the right person; "layout" (even when it is a more crappy one and suddenly the japanese font in my sig messes up ) and avatar fitting perfectly with my user name.
Of course it is not that easy to drop an old name (since this is a permanent change for me), but fits well

I think, "IP banned" should fit like here too; just what a moron deservers ... well if it is a mistake like in the initial post, an email or IM can be dispatched to Acmlm or another admin anyway (via the address on the main page probably)
Another way would be to implement email validation via user; so a moron who wants to register a troll account, first needs to create a new email address if he spammed and his main account was banned. Back on topic

IPs can be changed or you can use a proxy, so IP bans should be done by hand imo instead of banning an entire range and probably excluding more people

You got bored from RM2k, because you lost your game and switched to RM2k3 then
I don't like RM2k3, I mean it sucks. There are minor improvements like more pictures at the same time, but I don't like the new battle system (the reason I'd code my own CBS if I still had the motivation and skills to do it), so I prefer RM2k; but that'S always a matter of taste

Backing up at least once a week should be the easiest. In days of DVD (re)writers it should be able to back up at least the system and own data. When having a CD burner only, the most important data should fit too

Or simply load up your game on your webspace peridocally; but make sure no one has access to it if it should not be so; or simply but the CHMODs in a proper way noone may download it, unless youchange it

I love that game. I never saw such beautiful levels in a 2D jump'n run. Especially levels like 4-4 with really innovative ideas, such to find four keys to proceed to the boss, and funny ideas like the eating giant chain cannon balls or neeat castle levels like 5-4 made me playing it more and more
And shitloads of unique extras, a simply but really addictive 100 score point system makes you search and 'unlock' the secret level.
And these really are challenging.

Just naming "Extra 3" or "Extra 5 - Kamek's Revenge"; finishing these with 100 points requires all your skill and sure a shitload of lives the first time

Posted on 07-02-04 02:27 PM, in capturing animated sprites Link
Well, it isn't that difficult but more a matter of practice, at least when working with ZSNES
I usually learned to use hotkeys shortcuts for often used features in my Paint Shop Pro 7; so I get into ZSNES to the place I want to rip my avatar from, then dump it as PNG, then minimize ZSNES, go into PSP, opening it, setting transparency by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + V (German version), then selecting the background color and after that saving the entire image (!) by pressing F12 under a new name.

The rest of getting the right size is done in Animation Shop Pro 3; since it is convenient to reduce the size of the entire animation easily
An example of a rare sprite might be games like Bahamut Lagoon or Rudra no Hihou; That is an example of a regular enemy ... despite its large number of frames

Xk is right. A smaller avatar than 60 px in width also is not recommended since the board extends it to 60 in width; I tried it with the uber-cute Riza sprite once and the result was not good at all. Try it, the tiny sprite looks fine in profile.php, but then go inside a thread

So resize the sprite to 60 px in width before putting it here by hand

As for bigger avatars:
People who have a custom title actually CAN use images bigger than that size, since there also goes stuff like <img src="pathtoyourimagefile.ending">

I'd go with Arty and Dekar.
I also would like to have him inside the Ancient Cave (normally only if you finish the game twice, but not in the regular game), because his best weapon is a sword which reduces an enemy's HP by 1/2.

How just think if you could fight Master Jelly in the Ancient Cave4; 5000 HPs taken off in one swing. Then having Guy with a Gades Blade (Octo Strike, eight single hits) and Maxim maybe weapons like Myth Blade (HP-1/6), combined with Artys Abbadon spell big chance to kill that beast

Posted on 07-03-04 01:33 AM, in RPGs ... Do you prefer random or visible battles ? Link
I hope there was no thread about that too short ago
In Final Fantasy you mostly just need to walk a few steps to encounter an enemy party.
Some people say, that is good for gameplay, so you automatically level up; on the other hand you could run away later, when encountering the same enemies again and again or simply skipping low-level enemies.
This could be annoying from time to time - and not every game has skills like"Enemy Encounter: None" skills like the G.F. Diablos in FF 8

Visible enemies can be seen; so it's up to YOU if you fight them or not.
But this probably could take out the challenge, since you simply try to dodge out the more dangerous enemies.
As for me, I prefer visible enemies all the way; on the world map I would not like to have battle at all, but in the dungeons I like visible enemies
Put shitloads of them in one room, if you want, but once I killed them they don't disturb me anymore and I can for example solve a puzzle in freedom ... withoug interfering battles

What about you, which type of battles do you prefer ?

Maybe posting in a high frequency sucks up shitloads of time; who have to work or is at school probably some time will have less time, at least temporarily

And many people probably lost their will, since there where many people having a five-digit number of posts; since they're gone forever

Heh, MN, I tend to write longer posts often; disregarding the bigger MS Sans Serif font I'm using (assumed layouts are turned on), even when writing quite simply pols/threads; so even if I want it to do like that, in many parts are the thread's information hidden

In Romancing SaGa 3, the enemies usually didn't ran straight towards you (unlike Lufia II, but there they only moved when you moved ); but they came nearer and nearer; really hard since MPotions and TPotions were quite expensive and you can't refill your MP, LP, TP inside a battle ^^;

Originally in Mario RPG there were also quite rare to find; a limited amount of them (mostly) in hidden chests, and gaining them did take quite a while - but on the other hand there were these neat items like the EXP Booster or Scrooge Ring in Frogfucious' shop

Maybe it could be based on monthly wins in the ACS or the average amount of posts per day; I dunno know how difficult could it be done.
It only should stay smaller than the regular coins; since as said above the green Frog Coins were rare in Mario RPG already

I think it has to something with the people's cookies which are stored longer than a "session" with your IP unlike when you are logged in (then it simply goes away when you mark a forum or all forums read by hand).

Even if that is done, normally a new user should read the FAQ; so the most effective way might be to include that question into the FAQ and to put a page before register.php which says something like
"By registering an account you accept the (link) rules, Please read how to use the PM and 'Mark forum read' feature before posting in threads blindly" to prevent something like this.
On the other hand, at least for me, I didn't bother too much about more or less NEWs, because I was new and read the threads, matter no fact if old or not (but not posting in old threads, sure).

It was longer ago when I took the last test on that:

Test name: Fishing in Finland
Gross Speed: 68 WPM
Errors: 3 words
Net Speed: 65 WPM
Accuracy: 95 %

Nothing too well; I only took the lowest one-minute test. Also it is another thing to type a text in English or German ... in the last one I'm slightly faster than here. I'll search a similar test for German texts and I'll see if I'm better than here

Let's take an example from Lufia II:
Everyone who knows the later floors in the Ancient Cave (on an emulator the challenge is taken away; I was proud of beating the boss in one of uncountable tries on a real SNES ), knows the most nasty enemies later down: Rust, Silver and the *sigh* Gold Dragons.

These enemies are really nasty, since for example a surprise attack of two Gold Dragons can kill you in one round, since one Gold Dragon has three single attacks per turn. Three 'Gold Dust* attacks and you're away, even when being on level 80 or higher

But these enemies are VISIBLE, so you at least can decide when and from which side to fight them. Having random battles simply would be unfair, since first strikes and back attacks also would have been chosen randomly

On the other hand, random battles are easier for developers: No extra enemy graphics, no frames etc, to render; simply set up a counter when going and that's all

Looks very neat, especially having these nice enemies and tiles, backgrounds from SMW2, like in screen one
That tree level screenshot also is loking good; keep up the good work, and even when you release the game as stated next year (), it probably will be very likely very good ... LA1 already was good

I'd suggest to keep at least two copies of the ROM.
Especially when dealing with major changes on the overworld or messing with ExGFX in larger amounts a backup can help, for example if all GFX mess up suddenly or the overworld gets corrupted.
(Heck, there should be an option to dump an overworld ...
I know it can be tranferred to another ROM, but not dumped)

On the old board Jesper posted a small tool called "Lunar Backup", but dunno know its work and how effective it was
