Radmin ... I think I used that once to watch my cousin play GunBound And I've done Notepad chats like this too, long ago, but letting someone else take my place to make me seem different would be weird

Registering here would be nice, this board's size is nothing compared to Gaia Online if that's what you mean ... it's ranked #1 in Big Boards, and damn huge with its 360 million total posts and 1.8 million users (over 20000 online right now) ... while all we've had here in total is about 1 million posts and 4000 users (max online was 49)

I played ROSE soon after it opened, but it runs too slow on my computer to be fun, thanks to onboard video ... so I never came back since then

Hmm ... I'm on a one night return after a month and half of inactivity, and already ran out of things to post in after about 7 posts, which obviously isn't enough for 10th even on a slow day ... so I've really lost it, not like when 50 per day used to be easy 4 years ago

That would seem pretty weird without the board restart if I still had my 40000 and couldn't even do 10% of my posting average

I did a 1 week bump in one thread

I'm finally getting to 10th with this (11 posts) ... I'd need more motivation to do anything but can't really figure out how either

That's mostly what IP bans are for ... of course, a powerlevel -2 could be added (block access to the whole board), but there's still a way to logout and access the board anyway as a guest

He was gone for 3 days due to connection downtime (nice timing for it too ) and got back this afternoon, so the ACS should be updated tonight ...

And only 6 posts for 10th today?

Nothing wrong with temporary bans sometimes, personally I'd keep the permanent ones for lamers that just spam and don't want to contribute anything good ... or at least that's how it was in 2001, when even Pikawil barely got a 1 week ban for a spam thread, and the first real ban was a total spammer (4 months after the start)

personally, whoever unbanned knuck is a freaking idiot. it's the exact reason why there is so much bullshit middle school drama on this board
That's probably what he was talking about ... a month and half later, we got all this drama that had nothing to do with knuck

Easy to do, and not a bad idea, but it wouldn't have much use except for the view count ... or maybe EXP

Then again, I don't have any trouble reading even 8-digit numbers, so

All I had was a single character on Level 14, from a few hours of playing, so I don't really care ... the game is too slow on my computer to be fun anyway

Posted on 05-07-05 08:24 AM, in Have you ever found any cool glitch or code on your own? Link
Lufia 2

Level 0 glitch I found on the real SNES the first night I played (easy enough to get it by accident, but doesn't seem too well known), the screenshots below show it well enough

As soon as you have at least 2 characters, go to Config, then some button combination in there will glitch it up with the inventory showing up ... then go back and:

The second character dies and drops to Level 0 (also got a nice messed up name ) ... then revive it for free, save the game, and reload:

Random stats each time, usually much higher than Level 99, and the character is stuck at 0 forever (if the EXP to next goes down to 0, it jumps back to another random amount) ... only bad thing is some 3-5 second delays in certain spots for each Level 0 character (whenever their EXP left is calculated, I think), but I can live with that

Mario Kart 64

Use a ghost or star while another player uses a lightning bolt, exactly at the same time, and both will take effect ... smashing a tree away while shrunk was funny I got this maybe twice total in all the time I've done 2 player VS mode, so it's pretty rare unless you really try ...

I've known about N64 ROMs since 1999, when UltraHLE was the only good emulator and my computer was too slow to run any game decently ... I never really got into N64 emulation (even though I can run N64 ROMs fine now) so I only got 8 ROMs, but I remember they were always harder to find than for older consoles, probably due to their size

As for PlayStation, I never tried, but I know that's not new either

Posted on 05-10-05 09:38 AM, in Nintendo vs Sega Link
In order from lowest to highest complexity:
- NES had 5 sound channels with simple waveforms (2 squares, 1 triangle, 1 noise, 1 PCM), and mono sound only
- Genesis used FM synth (forgot how many channels but a lot more) and also some sort of PCM
- SNES had 8 channels with sound samples
So Genesis had bigger sound than NES, just wasn't nearly as advanced as SNES

The sound on Genesis is more comparable to playing MIDI's on really old sound cards (before sampled instruments) or module formats on Adlib, rather than low-quality MP3's ... it's perfectly clear sound, just limited to a certain category of waveforms (FM synth) that gives it its own feel, and it really doesn't sound bad if you like NES music

So back on topic, I also had both 8-bit and 16-bit consoles (with 5-8 games on each, but rented a lot more), and while I did enjoy quite a few good Sega games back then (I even got the "Acmlm" name from the Genesis ), I've played a lot more on the Nintendo consoles and would take Nintendo over Sega

The few games I played and really liked on Genesis were Phantasy Star 3 and 4, Shining in the Darkness, Toejam & Earl and possibly a few more I rented ... while on SNES, I can name Mario RPG, EarthBound, Final Fantasy 4 and 6, Chrono Trigger, Bubsy (also came out on Genesis though), Civilization (stayed up a whole night playing that once), Zelda, NHL '95 to '97, Secret of Mana, Super Punch Out, Donkey Kong Country 1 to 3, Mario games, and so on, and that's without comparing Sega Master System to NES, and the unpopular Sega Saturn to Nintendo 64, and the Dreamcast to Gamecube

It's #1 in Big Boards, so I've checked there several times since last year ... looked cool but it was so huge and spammy that I wasn't sure if I should register and post there

But I didn't know there was more to it than just a really huge board with avatar items (earned by posting)

They got 1.8 million users, and their Memberlist sorted by posts is rather scary ... there's more people above 10000 posts (4927) than this board ever had total, 2 even passed 100000, and 71986 got to 1000 (compare that to the older board's count here, around 170)

(edited)
2 threads with 1.4 million replies each here, more than this board's total too

Posted on 05-11-05 07:42 AM, in SimCity 2000(GBA) Link
I had SimCity 2000 on the Macintosh, I think it came out even before the PC version (but they looked about the same) ... I had fun with it for a good while, but I hex edited a copy of the game to make me start in year 3000 with $2147483647, and I usually made flat maps

SimCity on SNES was definitely fun too (I made a Megalopolis once), better than on PC and Macintosh ... although the PC version ran insanely fast even on a 386 or 486, up to years per second, which was funny to watch (stuff was built instantly, and you can get rich fast)

As for the newer ones (3000 and 4), I never played them so I can't really compare ...

I don't know why they picked Sim City 2000 of all versions to release on a handheld, but that could be interesting ... if they did a better job with the low resolution than on the SNES

Reminds me of this a few years ago, except it wasn't quite as bad in my case ... I think only once did I have a full day of no Internet

I'm sure it really did seem like a long downtime if you counted one day too much, both here and on the ACS
