It's that weird crap where virus emails come from your email address without you sending them ... it happens rather often to me too

And I get lots of short messages with virus attachments ...

But this one with random words ... that's new, was it just that or did it have an attachment?

Posted on 04-09-04 07:02 PM, in Virtual Bubble Wrap Link
In Large Manual mode, I popped all 77 in 14 seconds, that's 5.50 per second (I'm 4th now) But 2 people did it in 8 seconds, which seems almost impossible ...

That thing with one bubble left that you can't find is annoying, yeah ... and then there's those that just move around (instead of popping), where you need to hold B ...

And I've never done this with real bubble wrap ... not sure why

Posted on 04-09-04 07:14 PM, in Poll: What languages do you speak? Link
My first language is French ...

English, I started learning it from playing video games when I was 5-7, but any attempt to write English at that time looked like Engrish ("it the in 3 the monster" ) ... then I learned more at school, and I got to improve some more in the last few years by reading/writing English every day online

I also learned Spanish for 3 years at secondary school (1994 to 1997) ... but because I've hardly done any Spanish since then, I forgot a lot of it and can barely understand about half of what people say in Spanish, and even less write it

Posted on 04-10-04 03:15 AM, in What would be the basics to creating a PHP-based image font? Link
I used to have FreeType on my local server, it's nice (allows to output text with TrueType fonts in GD images) ... but just plain GD will work too

All you need is a font image file like this:

(that's what status.php uses)

And then a PHP script that takes a text parameter, and outputs the appropriate section of the font image for each character ... supporting variable width and line breaks can be more work, but that's pretty much how it goes

Of course, it's all done using GD functions, which are all listed and explained at php.net ...

*tries it*
Hmm, it's the same as renaming it to .txt, I see the source as plain text and the code itself doesn't even run ... or is that just what you meant?

Uh, XML isn't HTML ... XHTML is just a new form of HTML conforming to XML standards And .xml pages always only show the XML code, not an actual page ...

And why wouldn't just plain .htm work? Ever tried .xhtml?

I had a nice start, but it didn't take too long until I slowed down to my old rate or close ... like, 10 posts per day

The first time, I got to 1000 after only 9 days, and 10000 after 4 months and half, so Kitten Yiffer isn't even close But the lower ranks are moving up faster since we got more people now ...

I don't think so, with the double posting and all ... although I didn't know about this thread 0 bug

I'd add a thread 0 manually so I can close it, but I guess I'll just have to fix this from the code instead, which I'm doing right now

The text at the bottom (near the frozen Melvin) could look better, and it took a while before I noticed Nakase was doing a face (still can't figure out what that brown/black/white stuff over the head is, other than hair) ... but other than that, it's good, the changes to the Charizard were well done too

Well he's right about this, there's about 250k of images in there That can be lowered a bit if you use JPG, but it might not look as good ...

Looks nice though, and I don't mind the link bar at the bottom ... but I did like the old (and simpler) kitty layout too

No, over 3000 posts total on the board during the first day

1000 in a month isn't all that impressive ... sure, I haven't been able to do it for almost a year now, but I was doing well over 1000 per month in the first year of the older board

Posted on 04-13-04 09:36 PM, in Highest Score In Bowling? Link
My best is around 100-110 ... average, maybe 30-50 ... and my worst that I remember is 13 The last time I went (1-2 years ago), I think I did 91 total in 3 rounds ...

It really helps when all the balls that can fit my fingers (10 and higher, rarely 8) are too heavy for my thin arms ... I can hold them so well that I only miss half of my throws completely (goes off on the side) and can't keep my aim at all (heh) But sometimes I get lucky and manage to get a few strikes or 9's out of nowhere ...

Bowling can be fun, but it's too frustrating for me, especially when I see everyone else in my family do better than me My grandparents go every week and average about 150 ...

But that's with the "large" balls, I'd really need to try small

Posted on 04-15-04 12:17 AM, in Why I don't like scrollbar layouts Link
But I don't want the thread to get closed so fast, don't purposely try to get it off-topic or full of flaming

Well, here's what I think of the scrolling layouts ...
- They were cool the first time because it was new, I forgot who had it first here (Jesper?) but I remember it was a good layout ...

- Now, well ... either they're too big (which for me is when it doesn't fit in 800x600 or is more than 400 pixels high), or they're going to scroll rather often ... I don't think it's just me, but scrolling down a small box (away from the rest of the page) just to read a longer post gets really annoying ... it's even worse if the post starts with a quote that won't even fit completely

- Another thing I didn't like (but was more of a problem last summer) was when people used the "chroma" filter to get transparent scrollbars, sometimes even invisible (also bad) ... that caused problems with the ClearType effect in Windows XP (which made text hard to read on light backgrounds) ...

There's still the few that are actually decent or at least look good, and there's quite a few non-scrolling layouts that also annoy me (mostly by their size), sometimes a non-loading .css can be even worse ... but if you don't absolutely need scrolling, don't use it And if you do, see if you can make the layout scretchable instead, or use a different one ...

Well I like Ninji and Porcupo, because they're purple and cute

And then there's the yellow Yoshi ...

And yep, the final rank is still Star Mario
