01: Good.
02: The square grounds looks slightly odd, but it's tolerable.
03: Yoshi's Island flowers. Cool.
04: Background is slightly bland, but it works fine.
05: Background odd in some places, otherwise, great.
06: Hmm...that background reminds me of something out of DKC2. Maybe add some more detail.
07: Not bad. I like it.
08: A-fucking-mazing.
09: See above.
10: Very cool.
11: It looks slightly weird.
12: Strange background, the Hedgehoges look odd.
13: Spiked goodness, but the colors are off.

And the best way to change the palettes so they look nice is in an orderly fashion. For example, increase the red value by 150%, zero out the green value, and half the blue value. And if you're making one from scratch, be sure to use gradinents (Hold Alt, Click on first color, click on the last color)

The other catch is that you can't have the player start on an odd-numbered screen. Try starting the player one screen lower or one screen higher. If that doesn't work, fix the Layer 2 scrolling rate to Slow or None.
