I created a file that shows, using hex dump snippets, what is changed by locking a SMW ROM. Does anyone want to see it?

Yes, please show me. I've been wanting to know this for a while now.

If your willing to E-Mail me your hack, I will be glad to help you. The reason why I would need you to send it to me is because I am not very good at finding the reason behind OW Problems unless I actually take a look at it, and I'm aslo not very good at explaining stuff that involves the OW until I've carfully looked at it before hand. OW problems are usually caused by a lot of small and unoticeable things, and is usually hard for me to explain for that reason too. But I fully understand it myself, and I may even decide to write a very descriptive Tutorial on it, since many people have seemed to struggle in that area before. But overall, writing a Tutorial wouldn't be very hard because I'd be creating my own examples of problims, so it would be easier for me to give the soulution too.

If you need help, send it here:

Actually, it uses Layers 2 & 4 for the BG, which is even better becasue Layer 4 can use 4bpp Gfx (Gfx compatible with 16 color palettes), Layer 3 can only use 2bpp Gfx (4 color Palettes). But anyway, in the Editor you'd have to be able to Disable and Enable Layer 2 & Layer 4 seperatle so you can see what you're doing on Layer 4 (The same way that Lunar Magic can Disable & Enable Layers, except in LM, you hardly ever need to use it in this fasion because there's only 1 BG Layer and a Ground/FG Layer).

Take a look at this OW, it's not from a complete hack, nor is the OW itself complete, but it looks good for what is currently made (I think DemoWorld is one of the only few completed hacks, so it may not be easy finding what your looking for)

Yes, he does. He didn't before, but he has definatly improved a lot. I think the reason why a lot of people get offended so easily is because they take it personally. I think a lot of people take it personally because they think that the people criticizing are saying that they can't make a good hack for shit, which isn't true, but that's how it seems people are taking it (but really, they're just being given some advice/suggestions to improve it).

Edit: The first time I released my hack, I too got a bit offended of the criticism, but I have also improved; so even if someone does start out that way, they can easily change how they interpret criticism.

Extract the ExGfx, then go to level A, and click on the Yellow Mushroom (I didn't use the "Super Gfx Bypass" in that Level, so it's not the Red Mushroom in this case). It will bring open a window that'll tell you which Gfx/ExGfx that Level is using.

Edit: (the above info will usefull for finding the Gfx or ExGfx # 's that I've used in any Level).
Since I've got it open already, the ExGfx numbers it uses are:
F5 F4
D7 E0

Posted on 05-30-04 03:23 AM, in Zsnes or Snes9X? Link
I would definitely say Snes9x, I hate the Dos-like interface in Zsnes, so I only use it for dumping files. I also seem to get better Cheat Results when searching in Snes9x, I don't know if it really has a different outcome, but it sure seems like it (I seem to get 0 Results more often with Zsnes).

I also don't like having my Save State Loading and Saving buttons as the same key for every Slot, I tend to overwrite SaveStates more often that way (and it also takes longer to switch between Save Slots; because in Snes9x, you don't have to switch at all).

I don't use any of the Snes9X versions after 1.39, because it seems that the speed has decreased a bit, but ver. 1.39 suits my needs.

Your welcome, have fun editing.

The reason I left my Rom unlocked is because I really don't mind if people use my Gfx, I don't really like to hoard things.

Well, I don't mind as long as people aren't ripping off of me extensively (in other words, when all of the hacks look almost exactly like mine, and I know they won't), and nobody has yet. It was a chance I took, and things turned out alright. And besides, when i first released my hack i had no clue that Fu had anything hidden, nor was I looking for secrets, so I didn't know that Locking the Rom was even possible. I'm also usually pretty generous about things, because I've had to wait and wonder about many things throught out my life, so I know what it feels like to want something and not be able to obtain it most of the time, and belive me, it really sucks.

MathOnNapkins: Check your PM's (I forgot to give it a Subject, so I hope it sent ok).
(Edit, woops, I forgot to specify who it was to)

Bouche: How hard would it be to copy the Songs in Bank 3 over to Bank 1?
I don't mean for that to sound like a dumb question, because I know it's not some copy & paste kind of job, but I'm just wondering how hard it really is (how hard/easy it would be for you, or possibly even me).

Son of a Bitch! It is Layer 3 . I could have swore it was Layer 4 that I was disabling and enabling all this time, but now that you siad it was Layer 3, the Game proved me wrong.
Damm it (oh well, the Extra BG can only be in 2bpp format afterall ).

But the same concept that I mentioned to edit/view the two BG Layers (which was to Disable one Layer, while working on the other, and then to switch) in the Editor is still the easiest way to accuratly edit them (If you have a better idea, go ahead and post it).

It must have not went through because I forgot to give it a Subject/Title

I'll guess I'll have to retype it then.

I don't know why a lot of people are afraid of Spiders, it's not a bad thing, but I can never seem to figure out why. My 2 brothers are afraid of Spiders (the smaller the Spider, the more afraid of them they are; seems odd, but it's true), but I myself could squash one with my bare hand and it wouldn't bother me at all (except that it would be kind of nasty, but that's true with almost any bug)

Geno found this message in LM about a month ago, but it's Code has never been revealed yet: "Overworld level and directional ASM enhancement data"

Could this relate to the last major Easter Egg?

It's because you have the Transparency Layer Off, press the "9" key to turn it back On. Pressing "0" will Enable/Disable the HDMA effects, so make sure those are on as well, or you may notice even weirder things. The Transparency and HDMA Layers don't automatically turn themselves on when you change from Fullscreen Mode to Window Mode, or vise-versa,... but the the rest of the Layers do (Layers 1-5).

Here the are
http://home.comcast.net/~atma-x/Lunar_Magic_1.30-1.60.zip
Note: I never got LM 1.40 or 1.50 because FuSoYa released the Bug fix versions before could I download them. But, since only bugs were updated, it shouldn't really matter.

Edit: The text "Overworld level and directional ASM enhancement data" in Lunar Magic goes all the way back to LM 1.41 (probably even 1.40, since 1.41 is a bug fix)
But, it is not in version 1.30.

Go into the Map 16 Editor (16x16 Block Editor) and select a 16x16 Tile, then at the bottom of te Editor, Click on the top Flip Y button. Then Right Click on an Unused Tile to set the new Tile (yes, you have to create a new 16x16 Tile to flip the Gfx,... but you don't have to Flip any of the 8x8 Tiles in the 8x8 Editor, all that would do is use more space to redraw the 8x8 Tile, so Flip it in the 16x16 Editor)
