Sorry. I read the FAQ's both here and on Lunar Magic itself and failed to find what I am looking for. I'm beginning to think doing something like this is simply impossible. Though it's still worth a try.

I'm looking for a way to make a wall that Mario walks INFRONT of. ( You know, usually when Mario meets a wall. He can't simply just run infront of it. He has to find a way around it ) By a wall I mean land. Like..well..

Do you remember the first water-based level? Theres these things in the background ( But isn't the background image itself ) and ontop of those are green and white checkered pieces of land that kinda resemble the top of a mushroom? You can walk on the top of the land, but beneath it is simply walked infront of, as if it doesn't even exist.

How could I go about making something be so where Mario walks infront of it? I'm interested in making a raised piece of land, but I want Mario to walk infront of it, and only be able to walk ontop of it. Any idea how? P.S: I'm completely new to this, about... 2 hours into it. So try to be... explanative... about it.

Thanks.

Also, I seem to be having trouble with "Bullet machines"? The things that shoot Bonzai Bill's, I think thats what they're called. I don't know how to set it where it'll shoot bullets.

Thats nice and all. But I don't think my Lunar Magic is the same or something. At this FAQ, it speaks of "Click on the mario head" or "Click on the koopa shell" but theres nothing of that. Theres only tabs. No icons. I also can't find this... "Vertical scroll at will" choice. I downloaded LM from this website, I don't understand why I can't find half the things you people talk about, even after searching all of the tabs.

Well, I'm encountering alot of problems. I can assure you none of it is in the FAQ's. Problems with tiles that Mario can walk infront of, Problems with the bushes... Plenty of things. Is there anyone I can add on MSN/Yahoo for help? I'll try not to bother you too much about it. If I do get annoying, just block me. I'd rather do that then to continue asking questions here, and hoping to get a response sometime in the next hour ( Understanding the fact that you people can't just sit around on the forums all day and answer peoples questions )

Thanks.

P.S: I'll start by downloading the latest LM.

EDIT: For reference, I am using Version 1.41. Which is the only version on this site. I'll goto the FuSoYa website now.

2nd EDIT: I've downloaded 1.62 and am using it now. I'll try re-reading over the FAQ's to perhaps find the answers to my questions, but I highly doubt problems like mine are listed. For instance...

I made a cliffside. But Mario walks infront of it ( He's supposed to ) but whenever he shoots a fireball or something, it doesn't bounce -- It only goes straight. It's the same with bouncing koopa's and Star power-ups. They all simply...hover, and slide forward, the animation not even playing. But they do what they're supposed to when they're not infront of the cliff. They start bouncing, the animation works how it's supposed to, and all this. Mario can walk infront of the cliff, and even jump around just fine. But nothing else can. Theres also a problem with the bushes. I can walk infront of them ( As supposed to ) But I can also walk ONTOP of them ( NOT how I wanted it to work ) If anyone can help, that'd be great...

3rd EDIT:

I almost forgot to include this, but uh... I've tried the Bullet bill sprite. It only shoots right when the cannon comes into screen, not shooting anymore after that. Isn't it supposed to shoot every 7 seconds, or something like that? I could've sworn I've played other "Hack"s that had bullet shooters shoot more then once, and not just randomly shoot right when the shooter comes onto screen.

Is there a way I can have more then one color pallette? For instance. I made a level thats based in the night-time, so I fiddled with the Hex color thing and made the ground and enemies and such darker, to fit into the overall darkness. But I think it's going to look like that on every single level now. Is there a way to set it to where it'll be that pallette ONLY for that level? ( And any other I may choose in the future )?

Argh. I'm having trouble with YY-CHR, I've tried the things in the FAQ's, but my stuff still comes out garbage. Also, I'm not 100% on how to make a custom pallette.

P.S: I added you to my MSN Luigi-san ( Kasunpla_the_disturbed_jolteon@Hotmail.com ). I figured you might be able to help me out on some things. Though... If you prefer me to not have added you, just say so and I'll delete you off the list.

I'm interested into making my own tiles. I'm deciding to use Lunar Magic's built-in Tile Editor. However.. I was wondering if there was a way to MAKE tiles, rather then edit them. If not, Is there anyway I can change certain tiles specifically? ( for instance, I don't like the tiles in Ghost House 2. How would I go about editing those, and NOT Normal 1? )

I'm quite frustrated with this. I've done it by the way Coby says to do it. Yet... EVERY level has messed up tiles, every tile, except the ones I just now added, are equally as screwed. Even the BG's are messed.

The download came with a .TPL, I don't know what to do with that. I hear thats a pallette or something, but again - I don't know what to do with it.

And... on a side-note. I doubt simply implementing that will fix the problem of how every single level is messed, even though I followed Coby's instructions step-by-step.

-Yes- I chose a blank page on the 16x16 editor.
-Yes- I did the steps in correct order, from beginning to end.
-Yes- I cleared all objects from the level I wanted to add the tiles to. Like I said, I did the instructions step-by-step.

And yet somehow, all levels are now messed up. And... Just yay. Can anyone help with my problem?

Basically, I did Coby's how-to's in the thread about the ExGFX Workshop. So if you're wondering what I did exactly, visit there.

I guess theres a tiny chance I might've messed up -somehow- even after repeating this process three times to try and do it. I went through all the steps easily, there was no problems. But the outcome was just disgusting. Not only that, after re-opening my hack, I noticed. The ExGFX I put into the 16x16 are GONE? And yet my tiles are still messed up anyway!

Heres a screenshot: http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/9408/lm162ss3fa.jpg

I don't know what I did wrong, if anything. I'm hoping maybe someone will come by who knows why my tiles are all screwed up ever since I hit F3 on a -blank page- on the 16x16 Tile Editor.

EDIT:

I have a theory why my stuff is screwing up like this ( This is what I get for not reading warnings ). When I click the Yellow Mushroom ( To insert the ExGFX ) THIS pops up:

http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/1756/hmmorly1rv.jpg

By what it said, I assumed I needed to extract the GFX, insert the ExGFX, and then insert the GFX I just extracted. Re-opening my hack, the background is back to how it should be. Yet the tiles ( In Objects ) are still garbled. I mean... The ExGFX I inserted look fine, just a little coloring flaws ( Probably what the .TPL is all about. Only if someone will tell me what to do with it ) it's fine. But the other tiles are -absolutely screwed-.

I really hope someone can help me with this. I really don't know anything else to try now.

I was confused about this pretty greatly. Not only is putting together a decent one difficult, but even the basic elements of creating a world map are complex for newbies ( OKay, so just complex for me )

I'm not sure how to make bridges, I'm not sure how to do the exits ( Like going from YI to the Overworld ). All of it is so confusing. Can anyone, I don't know.. Help?
The Help file didn't do much for me. I don't know how to set up a screen exit, or even a pipe.

1up's, in my opinion, are there for the challenging levels. You know what I'm talking about... The levels where you're constantly dying ( I'm talking about levels in hacks, not the original SMW ) and you're lucky to even make it to the Halfway marker. Well thats what they're for. If you hit the midway point, and die, and still have at least one life to spare, next time you go back to level - You start at the midway point. Where-as opposing to getting a game over, you'd have to start from the beginning of that level.

Here's a stupid suggestion: Make levels uncannily long.

EDIT: On the other hand, I recall this hack where getting all the Yoshi coins meant unlocking a special part of the level. Like, theres these Yoshi blocks that block the path to a special tunnel or something. And the blocks vanish when you get all the Yoshi coins. I'd do something like this only if it wasn't considered stealing the guys idea. =(

Instead of making 1up's hard to get, make Yoshi coins difficult. But yeah.. That'd be stealing the poor guy's idea. I don't even know how he did something like that in the first place.

Yes. I despise the hacks that abuse holes. I played a Hack ( Won't mention which ) that had a beach on it. The beach was mainly holes, and some sand. Wow. Not a beach I'd goto on a vacation, let me tell you.

Posted on 09-03-05 11:20 AM, in What do I do with Map16FG/FGG and etc? Link
Okay. The first tile set I downloaded was a simple Map16PageG.BIN, and a Map16Page.BIN, along with a .TPL file.

But I downloaded another, and this one is agitating me quite a bit. I'm kinda annoyed on how theres things like these, and then nothing around that tells you what to do with them ( Or at least I don't think so ).

I have...

Map16PageFG.BIN
Map16PageFGG.BIN
Map16PageBG.BIN
Map16Page.BIN

No such Map16PageG.BIN, upon hitting the F3 key with all this, on the 16x16 editor, I get what seems to be background tiles. Background tiles that don't even fit with the tileset I downloaded. For reference, I downloaded Grafiti Hill's from GFX Workshop.

Any ideas? I don't know what to do with these. Do I need to rename them or what? I'm not even sure if I use FG3 on this one.

I'll take a wild guess and assume some people do it just so more people will look into their post. I don't see the reason for this. It's about as effective as naming your topic "Help me with Map16Page.BIN" instead of just "Help me with..."

Posted on 09-05-05 10:07 AM, in [ASM/BlockTool] I need some help... Link
I'll tell you right now, that I took one look at BlockTool, and realized this isn't something I can just -do-...

I know theres a couple ASM tutorials out there, but I can't seem to understand how it goes exactly. At first it's like.. 'Yeah, CA does this. E6 does that' but then theres so many hexadecimals(sp?) I lose track. Instead, I was wondering if it'd be OK if I requested a few simple ASM's for custom blocks?

Not only that, but I'm not sure how to create my own graphic for the blocks that I create with BlockTool. I'm not sure how to make the block itself, how to animate it. How to set it where when the block is used ( Like a coinblock hit from the bottom. It turns brown? ) it turns into such and such graphic. Argh...

Now I'm sure a request like this will be something people will look at in disgust. But I'd really appreciate it if people could help me with this.

I'd be willing to download a different block-creation tool if whomever helps me out with this has better experience in a different tool. I'll get to the point now...

I need to know what ASM codes are for the following kind of blocks:

Firstly, Considering I didn't actually fiddle around with BlockTool, I didn't find out if it had the more simpler ASM's already in it.

I need the ASM of a tradition coin block. You know. It's there. You hit it, get a coin, it turns into a used block.

I also need the ASM of a block that bounces you upward. Like a noteblock, except this block wouldn't bounce you from the bottom, left, or right.

I was also wondering if someone could give me the ASM to a block that when hit gives a mushroom. Not a flower, nor a feather -ever-. Always a mushroom?

Last, but not least. I'm requesting an ASM of a block. A block that vanishes when the player gets 5 Yoshi coins in that level. ( If 5 won't work, then 4 will be OK too )

I know this could sound like a bit much. I'll just try to be patient and hope to get lucky. Alongside this, I don't know what to do with the ASM's. I'm pretty new to LM in a whole, I've only recently got down inserting tilesets from ExGFX Workshop. So please, sorry if alot of my questions are just.... obvious.

Thanks in advance to anyone who does reach out to help me.

Wow... Just...wow. It's a good hack from the extent I played it. But I decided to quit and delete it off of my HD completely around Crystal Mines 2. No offense but, how can a ROM be so wonderful, and suddenly just by one level. Just one.. Become some tedious, repetitive, and annoying?

The huge para-troopa thing going on, I got around the seventh 1-up by them, then I keep missing the next Koopa. This has nothing to do with skill, or how much experience you have playing Mario. It's just luck. The Koopa'a must be timed -flawlessly- or else you simply won't make it across. After about 12 tries or so, I decided to just give up. I have -never- used Save State/Load State so much in one level.

In my opinion, calling this the best hack ever is an exaggeration. Theres plenty of glitches ( Which is OK ) but then theres just these para-troopa trains... My god... I had a couple areas in my hack where you needed to hop across one or two Para-troopa's, I'm definately considering removing those now.

No offense to the maker of this ROM, but dude... Just...wow. It looks to me like Para-troopa's was your way to make the level look longer then it actually is. "Fillers" so to speak. Please get another idea.

Oh. Thanks alot. I'll look into doing this. Simply reading it didn't make much sense to me, so I'll obviously have to read them step-by-step as I do in LM. The on/off thing sounds like one of those things I've never done before, so I might have a couple questions about that. Until then, I'll see what I can do in LM. Thanks again. This saves me alot of trouble.
