I have another quick question about IPSs... If make an IPS with your hack on it and it turns out to have a major problem, could you just make another IPS that goes directly over the already IPS'd file, (Like a bugfix patch), or would you have to rerelease it completely, and patch it to another empty ROM, to prevent the ROM from being corrupted from being patched twice (if it does)?

This board moves slower then mollasses going uphill... anyway...

#138 Don't make your overworld islands and continents look like perfect squares. It's incredibly boring to look at. The other tiles are there so they look slightly more interesting.

#139 Remember that the first blank map16 map is Tileset specific, so any blocks you make will only appear when you're in that tileset. Use the second and up pages to insert blocks you don't want to change.

Bug report complete with screenshots (warning, 17 pictures, but they're PNG)



Vertical fireball error. It always happens. Try removing them or forcing the player to get rid of yoshi.



Background screwiness...



See those coins? You have to push a Blue POW to create a walkway. But the player won't know not to collect them so they get stuck. Replace with pow-activated ? blocks.



What is that supposed to be?



Blue switch? Bleh, who needs it.



This stinks... I WANTED A GLITZ BLITZ, but I get a pit I have to kill myself in



Crystal star?? All I see is a yoshi egg... It's difficult, but you can probably replace the yoshi egg GFX with a star. Dunno if that affects the yoshi eggs in the levels or not...

-Rainbow road-

Yes, a sub-category for one level. Take a look -



There's tons of blocks that you can just sink through in this level. Take this as an example -



I was easily able to warp through the wall when the timed platform took me through.



Huh?? I'm climbing on a solid block??

-Black water lake-

I stopped here, because I had to make this bug report now...



omg I r swimmin in teh roks?!!/1shift+1?



Then I clear the level and yellow blocks pop out of the lake. Argh.



AUGH! THE GLITCHES! IT BURNS!



Oh, and I died touching those glitched blocks. Thats good though because I couldn't get out of the level because the water had solid parts where I wouldn't sink through. Either that, or touch the bugged Yellow Switch.

I haven't played past that area... I'll check around more later.

Oh right, the compliments? Well... The level design is ok. At least it's not 5 miles of straight corridor with a black piranha plant placed randomly on the floor designed to kill me because I'm sick of running. I also really like your choices of pallettes. I need more original pallettes in my hack
The difficulty is balanced, nothing overly hard. Overall it's good, but there are some game-smashing glitches that need fixed ASAP.

Hooktail trail secret exit without Blue switch activated ---

Have a yoshi as you enter the course. Proceed normally until you find a blue shell sitting somewhere. Get it in your mouth and fly right. You need to set it down and swallow it back up to make it last. Fly under the goal point with yoshi wings. Come back up and land near the key. Spit out the blue shell where you can still see it and the key on screen. Pick up the key and kick it backwards through the goal point. Go back and eat the blue shell again. Fly under the ropes and come back up. Dispose of the blue shell, eat the key, and walk into the keyhole. Wallah.

Oh, one more thing; the music is totally inappropriate for rainbow road. I was expecting the forest or piano theme, but castle music doesnt fit at all.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I found another bug, this time on the OW -



Bug on death glade event

Cyan paths = layer 2, can't walk on it, but reveals
magenta paths = layer 1, can walk, but theres no path

When you clear death glade, the proper layer 1 path opens up, but you put the layer 2 path up one too far. The one that reveals is probably for the next event. At least it's layer 2 and not layer 1, you'd go shooting off in a random direction for 256 times

Ok, I just cleared Final Resting place.... and nothing happened. No layer 1 or 2 paths No pic needed here, because there's nothing really to show

EDIT: I caught another bug, here it is -



Yoshi's tongue does that in castle sprite tilesets. Either change the sprite tileset or make the level yoshi-free. Oh by the way, the crazy green thing in my item box is a PAR code that forces the item box to carry a green yoshi. Don't worry though, I came into this level with yoshi, I just used the code for testing purposes.

EDIT EVEN MORE: Yup, I got another bugger.



When this happens...



...This happens. Mario also climbs in mid-air as well.

EDIT?! : *sigh* got another. The 8-number sequence in the ice fortress is skewed. The code you give is 1342-3314, but the correct code is actually 1342-3341 (the last two numbers are switched.). Very bad glitch here.

More -



Oops, that yoshi coin is on a sub-screen boundary. Move it up one or down one, it doesn't matter.

LAST EDIT: I found no glaring problems with M.V.G castle (except a couple of impossible jumps without capes and one impossible jump with it I had to use my yoshi code to get past). I like the ExGFX. Boggly Palace, however.....



This picture sums it up basically. There are several problems with this level, being -
1. The time limit is insanely short. I had to totally blitz to make it in the 50 seconds you have, and I made it with 7 seconds left. Please add more seconds.
2. Background messed up. Obvious.
3. Level design is boring. It's made completely out of brown blocks. Add some variety here, please.
4. Switch press message also messed up. Also obvious.

Also, there was no message the demo was over. Is boggly palace supposed to go somewhere or was that the end?

Final notes: I think I have tested this demo throughly, and have shown all the bugs I found here. My overall impression was very good. The level design is good, the appearance is good, the ExGFX fit well, and it's not terribly, impossibly difficult. The numorous major glitches (Looks at black lake), however, bring it's grade down sharply. I know you'll fix them all, but as I have to go with what I have, I rate this demo - 5/10. I look forward to your next release.

Is it possible you uploaded the wrong version of your hack? Like, you uploaded a previous version with all these bugs in it and didn't upload your latest with all or most of them fixed?

No, someone hacked the board and messed up all the user names and ID's. The admins fixed it all already though, only things lost were postcounts.

On-topic - I hardly ever make levels on paper, since my right brain doesn't work then. I find it much easier to put it directly in Lunar Magic.

Maybe a pipe that activates when you kill a certain sprite on the screen? Course, there's a difference between killing and moving off the screen. You could kick a koopa shell offscreen and not kill the actual koopa, walk away a bit and come back, the koopa respawns. but if you spin jump/fireball/kill it with a star, it doesn't come back. So many variables And I know nothing about ASM, so don't ask me

Viruses are teh bad. I feel bad for you. If the same thing happened to me, I'd lose only 4-5 months or so of work, but it would still be a crushing blow. Maybe someday you'll be bored and decide to get back into it.

You want the button on lunar magic with a pillar thing on it with a yellow X through it. That's layer 2 event editing. Next select the button with a path on it next to the Blue switch. That's the event tile selector. Use your arrow keys to scroll through the pages. You can create your own custom event tiles by pasting them in layer 2 editing mode (The pillar thing without the yellow X) Onto the big area to the right of the maps. Read the help file in lunar magic for a more detailed coverage.

Can someone else help me with this? I'm trying to make an island using Pallette 3 on the main OW map. It looks gray in Lunar Magic like I want it to, but when I test it in game, it's an eye-splitting bright red. How do you make it stay gray?
