1st screen- Looks rather boring. 2nd screen- Even more boring, no enemies at all. 3rd screen- Probably the best screen, there seems to be the most action here. 4th screen- Once again, I have to ask, why do people take screens of their overworld when the only thing changed is the level name? You're not impressing us by showing that you changed the level name since it's extremely easy to do. The reason the screens look boring is because there is little action in them, and because we have the exact same BG and colors as the original YI1. Like I said earlier to Sketchie, you don't need new graphics to make a hack better, simply messing around with the header to give the level a new look will help so much. I hope that you do this, because as of now I'm not impressed. Not to say this hack is bad, I know it's your first hack, but you should really mess around with the header and add a little more action to your levels to make it stand out more. There's my two cents. Have a nice day . |

1st Screen- Same look as Yoshi's Island 2, you may want to change that up. At least there appears to be some action in this screen, although it may be too hard, but you never know until you play, thus I assumer nothing. 2nd Screen- Bad palettes for the ghosts. I don't know why there's suddenly been an influx of generic SMW hacks, but my point is, it takes a lot more to please players nowadays. Even players that can do without an ExGFX and ASM-laden, the levels still need to be eye-catching in some way...nothing here particularly stands out. Custom palettes can help, a good number of enemies, spread out reasonably, and non-linear level designs, not just one straight path, but a bunch of little alternate paths for players to be encouraged to explore around, and for replayability. |

Originally posted by mvent2 I would say definitely redo all the levels. Even though you've created a new main character for this game, it would be better for him to be in a completely new atmosphere rather than the same old levels that we know like the back of our hands. I haven't played the demo yet, but even if those levels have some changes, it's better to just start over, that way you eliminate all the predicatability from the old levels. A new overworld would be cool, but don't let it take away too much time from designing your levels, I would make that the first priority. Once you get some really cool levels done, then you can tinker with the overworld. |

Really nice list, a good place to look if people want to find upcoming hacks or hunt down some classics (well...older hacks at least ). But how come SMW+4 is the only hack in the SMW+ series shown? There's nothing really special about that one in the series, it has graphic and level changes like the rest of my hacks. Also, you posted the fake screens of SMW The Lost Levels that were used for the April Fools Day version, so it's better to use something real . Good list though, maybe you should make one for other game hacks too. Such as Yoshi's Island, if you need one, see the gaudy advertisement below . (edited by Golden Yoshi on 05-03-05 05:06 PM) |

Originally posted by Lordlazer Well, none of my SMW+ hacks are online anymore. Not that I wanted them on your list, I was just curious to why SMW+4 was the only one shown . As for the fake screens, the last two are fake screens I made to trick people, and the first one is the title screen from the April Fools Day '05 version, since it reads copyright 2003-2005 at the bottom. The first version says 2003, 2004 instead. Even though I'm not continuing it, Aioria said he was continuing it but I haven't heard from him in weeks . |

I just bought The Killers "Mr. Brightside" single. Although I already have the Hot Fuss album, I wanted to buy this single because it has two previously unreleased tracks: Somebody Told Me Remix and Who Let You Go. Me loves da Killers.

I took the English Language AP test last year, but only got a 3, so I wasn't exempt from Expository Writing in college . Ah well, Expos wasn't too hard anyway, and my professor made the class interesting. But anyway about the AP test, they prepared me in AP Language and Composition for the test throughout senior year of high school, and overall in the class, I did better on writing essays than the reading passages. But when I took the real exam, I guess I got nervous and really messed up my essays because they were shit, and I knew it, so I ended up doing better with the reading passages. I was expecting more from this hack. Although the graphics look pretty good, the levels are way too short and boring, plus the hack overall is too short. It would be better if the levels were longer, and there were more levels. There are also some glitches, such as the sprite the final boss throws, and the graphics of the lava splashes. Overall I wasn't particularly impressed or wowed. The graphics and character change seem promising to use to make a really great hack, but I really didn't see it in this one, sorry.

This looks pretty decent, here are my two cents... Screen 1: Crappy colors on some of the letters. I don't know if you were going for some type of striping effect on the letters, but nonetheless it doesn't look too good. Also, it appears pretty dense, and where is Mario? Screen 2: Nice SMAS gfx, but it's nothing I haven't seen umpteen times before and that's particularly impressing. However, you do seem to be using the graphics properly, so that's a plus. Like the title screen, this level seems empty, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is since it's only a screen. I'd recommend taking screens of the areas of levels that have at least 2-3 enemies, and probably an area with your "best work", like a really cool puzzle, some great graphics, etc. I do like the edited font in the status bar, it looks good. Screen 3: Again, not too exciting. Also, change the little strip of blue in the background clouds to a lighter color. The dark blue contrasts the white too much and it doesn't look good. Also, the bottom half of the new "8" gfx in the status bar looks too squished. Not bad for a first try. You're only getting started, and you can only get better . Good luck! |

Screen 1: Pretty good modification to the FG. The palettes look a bit like vomit . Screen 2: Looking nice, but what are those objects in the four corners, and what's the little sphere in the center, a planet? Screen 3: Don't really see anything wrong here. Screen 4: The new water looks pretty good, is it animated? Cool new connecting log gfx. Screen 5: Nothing really amazing about this, and it seems obvious on how to solve this "puzzle", but I don't know, maybe you threw in a little twist. Screen 6: Looks good, are those blocks always turning? Those blocks seem unnecessary, but there must be a reason for you using them. Screen 7: Nice, the clouds are cute, but need a bit more detail to them. Screen 8: Cool BG, I like how the castle gives away to the sky like that. Screen 9: Really weird, can't really make out what these things are. They don't look very good anyway. Screen 10: Pretty cool pipes, but what in the hell is that thingamabob? Screen 11: Are those koopa pedestals part of the BG or objects? Screen 12: Looking pretty good. |

From the looks of that one screen, it doesn't appear to be such an exciting hack. There's just Mario riding in a cloud and one bullet bill, and no objects whatsoever, just empty space.

I just played it and I honestly have to say that was the most boring level I have ever played. I don't know why you call it a thriller. It's a completely linear level with just a bunch of bullet bills to dodge while riding a cloud. There are no objects at all, just empty space, which makes it even more boring. Seriously, I almost fell asleep playing the level. I beat it easily since you can simply avoid all the bullet bills by floating all the way at the top of the screen. I guess I should give suggestions for improving the level... 1. Try not having one straight path, have Mario go in all sorts of directions. 2. Add some objects (blocks, coins, anything) to fill up the level. 3. Try some other enemies besides just bullet bills. |

I've tried to edit the bonus games before. Another thing to watch out for is screen exits...don't put any because they won't work.

Well, it's been ages since there's been any kind of talk of Yoshi's Island hacking around here, and I thought I'd liven up all your spirits by releasing the SMW2+ World 3 Demo. I must say I am enjoying YI hacking very much despite the silence of the topic and the scarcity of people who hack it, and I'm very pleased with EggVine (props to Squash Monster). I've been able to make three whole worlds with the editor, so it can't be that bad. Anyway, I won't keep you waiting any longer, this demo includes 1-1 all the way to Extra 3. To view screens, go here... http://www.freewebs.com/goldenyoshi/screensofsmw2.htm Screens only go up to 3-3 there, just so I don't give away too much of the hack . To download, go here... http://www.freewebs.com/goldenyoshi/SMW2+W3.zip Have fun, and if you have any comments, suggestions, etc, please post them, if not, doesn't really matter, this thread is for people to know the demo's done. Thanks. |

Those screens look very cool. I'm wondering how all those enemies and giant note blocks will work, but what about that orange note block at the end, does it shoot you up really high like in SMB3?

Alright, that sounds good. Also, everyone, if you find any bugs, check the Known Bugs section in the readme before reporting any. Thanks. By the way, I have already started working on 4-1, called "Welcome To Paradice". Yes I know I spelt paradise wrong, but there's a reason, as you will see by this screen... |
