Started a new hack again. I had another back a few months ago but I did not like basically everything about it. So I started again. I have about about 40% of all the overwold deisgn done. (design, not the actual levels/paths/events/exits). This is the weeping woods which a river goes into and splits midway. Any thoughts?

EDIT:

Slightly new pic showing progress. I made it darker, but I think I will still make it a bit more darker.

actually I say it as Alcum, even though its not how it looks. Its easy to just say alcum (since it sounds more like a real word/name), and for some reason it has stuck to me that way.

So, welcome to Alcum's board :-o

Posted on 04-05-04 06:08 AM, in Overworld Pallete Problem [Issue/Gfx] Link
I've been building my overworld for the past few days and I'm getting to the point where I'm editing the palletes for the sub sections. One thing I noticed is that for 'Valley of Bowser' and 'Vanilla Dome' sections I can't edit their palletes seperately without one changing the other. I'm only changing the part of the pallete that changes along the parts of the sub sections.

i.e. I change the water color to red so that bowser's world has lava, but vanilla dome gets lava color water as well :-(

Any explanations? I've had no problem changing the pallete seperately for the forrest of illusion section.

Arghh, Lunar Magic shouldn't have them listed seperately then

but how is it that in demo world cont. that bowsers world's pallete is different from vanilla dome

Even though they're bulky i stick with the crt monitors. LCD 'blends the pixels' ( as i would like to call it), and when you play games it trails ( my one friend hardly noticed it but it was so anoying to me it pissed me off).

I'm always adding things to the overworld and changing things CONSTANTLY and I have been spending a lot of time on it. But I think I'm finally aproaching the final look of the main overworld (except the bottom left portion)

(layer 1 and sprites is disabled)

the only other part I have "finished" also is the 'weeping woods' (name pending), which I posted a screenshot before but I'll post again so you can see. Also yoshi's isle section is done but no screenshot.

yeah there is too much green, but what other color would you suggest to add ?

damn, i tryed posting after this post but it wont let me, so I will just sacrafice this one.

Working idea. Will need to edit gfx to acomadate certain things. Had to sacrafice some round edges and make them sharp. But all in all going pretty good.

But still I don't know. Maybe i should stick with lots of green. because this xtra bit of color might want to screw with me

the yellow is an expirment. the more i look at it, the more i hate it. I think i might stick with all green or play with colors some more

heh, lucky for me I didn't save changes to the pallette. SCORE

and yeah I was thinking of just a darker form of green. Seems to be the best idea

i just got back from messing around with it some more and better results. *waves wand* *POOF*

Heh, forgot to disable sprites (they are in random locations right now so where they lay is not where they'll be.

As you can see I also got rid of that funky area where it supposably sloped up so mario can walk up. I will just have him climb up instead
the top areas have been leveled to the same height and connected properly.
I mainly miss some of my rounded edges i had to sacrafice :'(

Haha (heh, haha as in laughing not you name), you are all about a volcano. I know a few things about exgfx, but I havn't messed around with it for overworld purposes. If I learned how (may need some pointers), I can work on it

In other news I updated the second picture (the evil one) on the first page. Might need refreshing. Just got the point out I hate it

No offense, but I'm getting really sick of these kind of threads. I say if you are going to anounce a hack, there has to be screenshots with it.

Rounded edges are back thanks to edited gfx and and a simple pallete 'trick'

Also a few other aditions (more to come still though). But, sorry to say there won't be a volcano (unless I keep that for bowser's sections >.> <.< )
Green colors are a bit too bright so I will most likely toning those down.

Now to get ready for work since I'll be there till 11pm

heh, the smb3 rock is out of place for a reason and it will be shown when I release this hack. But I still might remove it and save it for what im planning for it later >.> <.<
Edit: And don't expect this to be out FOR A LONG TIME. I don't even have 1 level done and I'm taking time on everything I do. Not to mention I work 32hrs/wk and a freshman in college, so its hard to actually find free time to do this type of thing.

Anywho I don't know how to utilize exGfx in the OW, right now I've just been replacing gfx that I won't be using (like bowser's rock head thing). Could someone help me with the exgfx? Also I've played around with the grass gfx but can't make a good looking grass type of feel. Could someone else help me with that bit maybe?

I posted a video of me kicking ass in Tubular, getting all 6 yoshi coins (yeah theres 6), and not to mention getting a one up at the goal post because I matched the coins and time properly. Unfortunatly the video doesnt work after I exit zsnes and try to play it again . Pisses me off
