*cue drumroll*

...this is so exciting...

*fumbling to open envelope*

*open*

The International Atomic Energy Agency and its Director General, Mohamed ElBaradei!

*cue music, applause*

The International Atomic Energy Agency has starred in one conflict these past 50 years, and that's the conflicting views over the use of nuclear devices. The IAEA promotes nuclear energy and other peaceful means of nuclear usage, while it is against the use of nuclear warfare.

This is the IAEA's first award in this category.

(and, yes, I'm talking about the Nobel Peace Prize here... Any thoughts?)

Ok, so last night, around 4 or 5am, I was driving people home from work. Everything was going fine and all, and my last stop was this guy who lives right next to the airport. I drop him off, and then I start driving back from the airport. Basically, when you get out of the airport-area, you enter a roundabout, and then there's a four-laned (two in each direction) road. This nice, white car comes up behind me after I leave the roundabout, and he puts himself in the left lane. I'm in the right, so I'm thinking he probably wants to pass me, but in stead he just kinda sits there, in the left lane, doing around my speed. This kinda freaks me out, since people ain't supposed to be in the left lane unless they want to pass you, so I start to speed up to get away from this car. This was a 70-zone, and I was probably on my way up to 85 (with the car still right behind me), when I notice something when looking at the car in my mirror. It's not an ordinary white car, it's one of them white cars with blue letters on the hood and a pair of blue lights on the top (it was dark, that's why I didn't notice them before then). Not only am I doing 80-something in a 70-zone, but about 2 seconds up the road is a sign singaling a change to 60-zone that I hadn't noticed before then. So, basically, I slam the brakes, go down to 50, let the nice, old uncle-policeman pass me, and take a right at the next roundabout (where he continiues forward), with probably an alarmingly high heart-rate.

Had he stopped me, would I have probably lost my license, since I'm still in the 2-year-trial-period (everyone has to go a 2-year-period after they've gotten their license in Norway where it's basically a lot easier to lose one's license than after the 2-year-period is done).

I'm going to have to vote for Noel Gallagher on this one, even though he ain't really an alternative. I'm voting for him because it's so obvious that The Killers are so in love with him (which isn't a bad thing, though) that they not only try to copy his musical style, but they're also copying his feuds... What's next? The Bravery and The Killers launch a single on the same day or something?

I used to think Phelps was just a very fundamentalist Christian with some seriously whacked-out ideas, untill I read the Wikipedia article on him. The man is seriously disturbed beyond comprehension...

Well, there's an overly unspecific question.

No, I don't believe in any god as those portrayed in any organized, revelation-based religion. I do believe in a driving force behind the creation of the universe, or a "first mover", if you will. You want to call that God? Go right ahead. I don't believe this force intervenes in the universe, other than being its initial designer, thus it doesn't matter what you call it.

Nokia Tune - because it was on my cellphone, because I don't want to pay for a ring tone, because no one uses it anymore, because being retro is cool.

Well, seeing as how my cellphone does not have bluetooth or any other way of communicating with a computer, how do you suggest I go about loading ring tones over to it, then?

...you can tell a friend "aparently, this girl kicked me in the nuts last Saturday", to which your friend replies "I knew about it before you did"...

Well, yeah, so I insulted this girl while being severly drunk last Saturday, and she kinda kicked me where she shouldn't kick a person. Funny thing is, I can't remember this at all (I can't really remember anything from last Saturday, but ohh well). Anyways, I was told what happened that night by a friend this night (aparently, I'd insulted her by bringing up the name of a certain guy she'd been more than friendly with, and she'd responded by trying to remove my genitalia), and when I go talk to all my other friends about it, all they basically say is "I knew about it before you did", which I find funny, because, even though it is true that they knew about it before me, it was still something that happened while I was there, and they were not.

Point of the story is: That is probably one of my drunker moments. So, let's hear it from the rest of Acmlm's alcohol abusers. Your most wasted night out was?

Of course, almost all of this was pieced together by witness accounts relayed to me the next day/week/whenever.

But of course. If you can retell a drunken history from your own memory, you weren't drunk enough.

Well, all three of my wristbands are still intact, even though I had been drinking last night (around the time I made this thread, actually. Anyone notice how my typing has heightened considerably? Or maybe it's because all I had last night was four or five beers).

By the by, we have the coolest thing at the bar I work at (which is where I was drinking last night). Basically, it's an outdoor wooden bathtub, which fits around 10 people. So, the temperature was around +5C, the water had been heated since noon, and we all jumped in (brought our swimming shorts, of course). All we did was drink beer and splash water at the other guests, great times!

I usually school my friends at Mario Kart: Double Dash!! when I'm drunk.

Of course, the fact that they've also been drinking, and that I'm the only person in my circle of friends with a GameCube, does help.

You guys are taking this completely the wrong way. Thanks to UNICEF, children around the world are given education, are being shielded from a life in war, prostitution, sweatshops, or the likes, are being vaccinated and cured of diseases. Sure, UNICEF hasn't handled every crisis situation in the optimal way, but what organization has ever done that?

And the commercial is only sent at night, to make it so that as few children as possible see it. Besides, I think the commercial is good, and to the point. UNICEF is trying to bring attention to the fact that many children, around the world, are experiencing the cruelties of war every day, what better way to do it than to have a typical children's programme being bombarded? Using children soldiers is pretty sick, and, it is against international law.

It's enough that they push the unisef boxes on children through school teachers
Yeah, you poor thing. I mean, we can all agree that you getting craploads of candy on Halloween is a lot, lot more important than children around the world getting their basic needs such as water, food, safety, and good health.

There is a commercial with a much similar message, but a lot less radical way of showing it, here in Norway. A newspaper commercial that starts with the silhouette of a boy running around chasing a butterfly. You can hear children's laughter in the background. After a while, he runs into a newspaper-shaped box, and the butterfly flies away, as all we see is his back. He then turns around, and suddenly he holds an AK-47. The image freezes and turns into a newspaper frontpage.

Of course, I think the main message of the commercial is "our newspaper bring you the most shocking stories, buy it!" or something, but it still has the whole innocent-children-cum-war element in it.

Bah, Alaska. Why would anyone pay you to live down there, it makes no sense? I mean, I could understand the need for populating the cold northern areas, and paying me if I moved further north, but I don't see why I should be paid any money for actually moving southwards...

Seems fine by me, animals should have living environments in which they can thrive. Anything else would be cruel to them.

However, when they come to pick up the fish bowls, I'm sure the Romans can just fall down in a highly theatrical way and fake a cramp for minutes to stall them and steal some time. Fucking cheating, diving bastards, all of them!

Not all countries observe daylight savings time, and the time at which they changed are not always the same. However, for the EU and the EEC (which practically all of Western + Some of Eastern Europe is a part of), the change is at the same time. We changed back here in Norway yesterday as well. Confused the hell out of my roleplaying group when I told them that we'd do a session today at 2pm, and none of them knew what 2pm I was tallking about... Speaking of which, that's in 15 minutes, so I'd better get going...
