Bah, everybody knows The Bends is Radiohead's best album.

They're a decent band, though, not among my favorites, but definitely decent. I'm really impressed with how they managed to stay away (to a certain extent, anyway) from the Britpop-scene, considering their contemporaries in British music.

Yup, today is the centennial for the referendum in which the Norwegian people declared their independence from the personal union between Norway and Sweden. Today, 100 years later, Norwegians are still generally mistrusting towards all unions with other countries, as showed by our being one of the very few countries in Europe not to have joined the European Union.

The Union is currently in a very fragile state, though, as shown through the recent referendums in France and The Netherlands, where a majority voted against the European Constitution. As a result of this, euroskepticisism is again rising in Europe, and in Norway, the "no union" side grew from 42 to 59 percent in opinion polls conducted just before and just after the referendums about the constitution. Some people claim that the EU will have to undergo significant change in the future, and some are pushing for a more fedarlist solution, others for giving more power to the European Parliament (thus strenghtening democracy, but also, alas, supernationalism in the Union). Regardless, the Union will have to change, as people are clearly not happy about the way it currently functions, but neither with the options presented. I don't really hold the solution to where the European Union should go, but perhaps a discussion on its future would be interesting in this forum?

(Oh, and by the way, as the Union stands now, I would vote for keeping Norway out of the EU should there be a third referendum in this country)

I'm currently partaking in two DnD campaigns, as well as being the GM of a Star Wars RPG campaign (which is also built on the d20-system). I know a lot of people really dislike SWRPG, but I find it a lot of fun.

Star Wars RPG, from WotC, as you can see. Technically, the only thing you need to play is this (sort of like a PHB and DMGuide all-in-one), but there are many other books to make the game more enjoyable.

As for d100 (or d%), by the way, we usually play so that 40 + 0 = 40, 90 + 9 = 99, 00 + 2 = 2 and etc. So how do you get 100? 00 + 0 = 100. Of course, it doesn't really matter how you do it, as long as everyone knows the system beforehand (you don't get any arguments that way). d100 is hardly used by anyone else than the DM/GM anyway.

Well, Mathematically they can still do it, of course. Realistically, though, it won't happen. They have all their hard matches left, and they've wasted too much already.

If there's one thing euroskeptics and europositives alike can agree upon, it's that the EU through its current system has brought peace. Heck, the EU was designed to bring peace, because Europeans were tired of war. Through the redistribution of money, and specified trade between states, the EU secures that all its member-states become economically succesful, as well as economically dependent on each other. That way, it will be in everyone's best interest not to go to war against each other. Changing European states into the night-watch-states of the 19th century would hold disastrous consequences, it would eliminate worker's rights, widen the gap between rich and poor, and cause social instability, which is an important cause of war.

Hold on, wait a second. Using air conditioners to cool the air. Why would anyone be stupid enough to do that? </scandinavianism>

Seriously, though. In Scandinavia, people generally don't have air conditioners, because there are only so many days out of the year when you would actually need to cool down, while there are loads of days one could use more heat. We therefore don't go for the hassle of air conditioners, when heaters are basically all we need. Cars are probably the only things here where people have AC-systems.

People could really use A/C right now. It's 16C and people are going crazy, lying on their front lawns in their underwear and stuff. Man, where did this heat come from?

Well, the general Norwegian sentiment is that "as long as the sun is up, the weather is warm". Temperatures seldom go past 30C anywhere in Norway (only happens on the hottest days of July/August), and this is Northern Norway. At this time, we could have had snow, but we were lucky, and summer set in early. Remember, the place I'm living at is about as far north as the northern tip of Alaska.

All that being said, it will become hotter here, of course. We'll probably have somewhere close to the 30's at some point, but people still find 16C to be a very nice temperature. I've been walking in a t-shirt for the first time this year.

I'm off to no-internet-land for two months. I'll be back sometime early in August (unless the unlikely event that my mother has an internet connection installed while I'm home happens). I guess I might make some rare posts here once in a while, should I come by a PC with a connection.

Either way, you all have a good summer!

witeasprinwow said what I wanted to say when I saw this. Music only seemed to be better in the old days because the only old music you hear is the good music.
However, what's with labeling noise as crap? I think Pixies kinda proved that noise can be oh-so-good.

Football (soccer) is my favorite sport, most definitely. Both to play and to watch. However, when winter comes around, I enjoy watching biathlon the most. It's very exciting, since the standings can change drastically, all in the time it takes to miss one target.

Jerry Seinfeld once mentioned how no one cared about the insects. That you could be in the middle of a PETA meeting and hear someone go "*clap* Ah, got it!". I brought this up to my mother. She said that she had a theory that since insects are what most scientists project will rule the earth once man is gone, they are basically our nemesis. She also thought that we know they will rule the earth after us instinctively, and thus have an instinctive fear/distrust/lack of sympathy for insects. It makes sense to me, anyway.

So, I started threatening Lolabot. Saying Robots should die and all. Then I type "Die, Robot!" and it started talking German to me. Ironically, "The Robot" in German is "Der Roboter", not "Die Robot".

Well, I speak German (or I think I do ), so I tried to have a conversation with it in German. It knida worked out. I asked it what languages it could speak, and it told me it was programmed for German and English. Weird, though, I woulda thought the programmers woulda picked Spanish or French before German.
