Acmlm's needs more Western Europeans, in general. Discussing UK elections isn't the most interesting thing, though. I think most non-Uk Europeans actually cared more about following the American elections than the UK ones (the media here in Norway had lots of stats even from the Democratic primaries and the American election broadcast was sent on live TV (late, late at night, because of time zones). In contrast, the media has hardly mentioned the UK election, and I'm pretty sure the average Ola (that would be Norwegian for Joe) wouldn't even know they were having an election over there).

Isn't it funny how people who generally push for pharmasists' rights to not give people birth control are often the same people who claim that one should be allowed to buy guns anywhere and for whatever reasons?

Actually, it is a lot like the US. The voting system is the same, Single-Member District Plurality, and in many constituencies you only have 2 realistic options. It's just that unlike the US, where the Dems and Reps are the only options in any constituency, it can vary in the UK. One constituency can have Labour vs. Tory, another has Labour vs. Lib Dems, etc. etc... Some of course, show a realistic oportunity for all 3 big parties.

It's still nowhere as fair as a country with proportional representation. Take the Green Party, for instance. They currently hold no seats in Parliament. Had the UK have had proportional representation, though, they would have had seats in Parliament, along with many other minor parties.

Liverpool has the edge since they managed to get a draw away, and they played a fairly good match. The home match should be easier for them. Only problem Liverpool has is that if Chelsea scores, they will have to score twice, since they couldn't get any away goals.

The UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup both follow the same season as most European leagues, which means that the season starts around August, and ends around May. There are some exceptions, mostly in countries in the north, where the season starts in April and ends in October. That way the teams that qualify for the Champions League/UEFA Cup are based on the way the leagues ended only a couple of months earlier (the exceptions being, again, those with a different kind of season, where the teams sent to the European cups are based on the way the league ended in October the year before, and the positions in the current season (which is then more than half-complete), is not considered).

An interesting thing this year is Liverpool, which may give the English Football Association some trouble if they win the Champions League. England are given 4 spots in the Champions League, which would usually go to the teams that place 1st to 4th in the English Premier League. If Liverpool wins, however, it's up to the English FA to decide if they'll give the 4th spot to the team that places 4th in the league (most likely Everton) or to the Champions League champions (since Liverpool most likely will not manage to place among the top 4 in the EPL).

As for best player. Hm, well, hard to say, there are tons of good alternatives, and I don't think I have a current preference.

Yeah, the top 4 from the Premier League 2003/2004 were in this season's (2004/2005) Champions League. Those teams were Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, and Liverpool (Arsenal and Man Utd were knocked out in the Round of 16, by Bayern M

The season is looking good so far, based on these factors:
- The three matches we've played (and taken points in) so far are all matches we lost last season (@Odd 2004:1-3,2005:1-1 - vs. Ham-Kam 2004:0-3,2004:1-0 - @Brann 2004:0-1,2005:0-0). In other words, we are 5 points ahead of last season. Last season, we were 8 points behind Rosenborg, who won the league, so if we can win one more match we lost last season, and otherwise do exactly as last season, it's a gold for us!
- Our new goal keeper, Bo Andersen, is fantastic. Only let in one goal so far, and that was on a penalty kick. Unfortunately, he's only in the club on loan untill June, when Knut Borch, our usual goal keeper, is healed from injury. There are some, though, who claim that Troms

On a side note, did you know Schwarzenegger has the tank he was stationed in when he was in the Austrian army standing in his garden? Apparantly, he payed the Austrian government to ship it over to him after he got rich and famous and such.

Lots of media places have been claiming for quite some time now that iTunes Music Store would be coming to Norway today, but I still don't see nothing official from Apple. Then again, when I go to the iTunes Music Store, I don't see Australia on the list, yet here you are, claiming Australia has got it now. The list I see before me says Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, UK, USA.

Bolton in the English league first division?

Hm, being number 6 at the A-level in England or playing at C-level... Well, it's pretty much the same, no?

Oh, and you might have only let in one goal so far, but you've only scored two.
our attack, which has been the only thing not working so far this season

Yet another day that most people ignore...

Wrong, wrong, wrong...

May Day is a big thing in many European countries, such as here in Norway. Of course, we, as most other countries, normally refer to it as Labour Day, and the day is marked by various groupings of socialists, social-democrats, and communists who have parades, demonstrations, and public speeches. I just came home from downtown, and there was a marching band outside the city's cathedral. Along with the marching band was a group of people with large red flags/banners, and a man giving a speech. Though I'm sure you could have a lengthy political discussion on whose policies are best for the working class, labour and the labour movement is generally associated with leftist ideals here, and thus labour day has become a sort of a socialist day.
It's a public holiday, as well, so everything's closed around here.

I guess the reason May Day isn't what it is over on the other side of the Atlantic is because you all already have another Labour Day (which, as far as I understand, generally isn't much else than a day off, no demonstrations or nothing), and because leftist sentiment has never caught on over there.

Actually, around these parts, since it's a national holiday, a lot of young kids tend to get drunk on April 30, and then sleep it off on May 1. People come in lots of different variations, you have those who don't care and use it as an extra oportunity to get drunk, and then you have those who do care and participate in the parades and demonstrations and such.

All Euro-using members of the European Union. You'll note that iTunes Music Store has only been released for 4 different currencies so far, US Dollars, Candian Dollars, UK Sterling, and Euro. I'm fairly sure that's the explanation why Luxembourg has iTunes Music Store, and not countries like Sweden and Denmark (which still use Kroners).

Gudjohnsen will be playing that one over and over in his head tonight, that's for sure.

By the way, anyone notice Gerrard hugging all the Chelsea-players and Murinho after the match. That sure won't go down well with a lot of Liverpool-fans, considering recent transfer speculations and such.

So, I read in the newspaper that the movie played for 4.2 million pounds in Britain during the first week, and 21 million dollars in the US during the first week. Coincidence?

I have it on DVD, and I absolutely love it. Definitely Jake Gyllenhaal's best performance. It's the kind of movie where you'll laugh and cry with the characters. As the movie progresses you feel more and more taken in by the story, and in the end you really want for everything to work out well for the characters. There are not many movies that gives such a great bond between the characters and the audience.

But, as Jarukoth said, it's Sky, not Skies, and none of the kids invent the rocket, the rocket is invented long before their time.

This is what's wrong with the Single-Member District Plurality System:

PartyPercentage VotesPercentage MPs
Labour36%57%
Tory33%32%
Lib. Dems23%10%
Others8%2%

Please, please, tell me how this is fair? The SMDP system favours the big parties heavily! If Britain had had that result in a Proportional Representation system, I'm fairly sure they'd have a Tory/Lib. Dems coallition government now, and not a Labour one.
