What now? Of course they ain't known by the general public, they're researchers, not rock stars! I can guarantee you, though, that they're good researchers, and heavyweights in scientific circles (they are, after all, put to work by the UN), and what they say is important to the debate over global warming. The fact that they're not known to the general public doesn't matter, they results of their research are definitely results that are listened to.

I must admit, I can't quite see your point here, if only researchers that are known to the public are researchers that are important, or researchers that industry owners or environmentalists will pay attention to, then there are no important researchers out there. You don't become famous over researching global warming...

Well, the FAQ does say the bands are available (for a limited time) in Norway, but when looking at the list for where one can get the bands, Norway is not on it. I'm going to Oslo around the 15th, I could check some of the stores around there to see if I can find the wristband. I know the Oslo-club V

Haha, I tried searching for every possible mathematical pattern I could find, and every time I thought I had something, I got quite mad when they didn't work out. So, when the solution to "Petals Around The Rose" finally dawned on me, I had to laugh, since it was so obvious, so simple, yet something so hard to think of.

Today, March 8, is the International Women's Day, a day for women (and men) all over the World not only to celebrate the achievements of the feminist movement, but also to look forward to see what may be done to further the fight for equality between genders.

It is a sad notion amongst many people today that the fight for gender equality is completed, and that feminists nowadays are just weird women who need something to whine about. It is still so that in those countries that have come the furthest in terms of gender equality still find women underrepresented in areas such as work (including wages) and politics, while in most third world countries, women are still seen as nothing more than a commodity. Creating a fair World where all may participate on equal terms, regardless of their sex, race, sexual preference, or religion should be a goal everyone should have an interest in pursuing, regardless if they're in a suppressed group or not.

After George W. Bush and John Howard (two conservatives up to no good) won despite their involvement in the Iraqi war, it would be a shame if Tony Blair (a rather decent prime minister) was kicked out because of it.

However, as I see it, the Tories in the UK are not very well organized these days, and they are not very good at cashing in on Mr. Blair's big mistake (the Iraqi war). I highly doubt they will be able to win, I'm fairly sure that the Lib. Dems are going to do one of their greatest elections, while Labour, while still having a majority, will have a substantially decreased majority.

Now, Malcolm X certainly had some messed up ways to look at the world, but should that have kept us from listening to MLK? You will always find fringe-groups, extremists, and other "lunatics" (as you might call them), but that doesn't mean that the cause itself isn't important, or that the majority of people actually believe in what the extremists say.

Any thoughts?

The way I see it, there are 4 obvious favorites: Milan, Juve, Chelsea, and FC Bayern, 3 old superpowers, and one team that cannot be neglected, thanks to Mr. Abrahmovic's shopping-spree. Porto could (should) be an outsider, considering they are the reigning champion, but that was a lot due to Mr. Murinho, who ain't exactly making his money in Porto no more. Liverpool was impressing against Leverkusen, but their switching form in the Prem proves that a Liverpool-championship is a lot less than likely. Lyon, impressive as they may have been both in the French league and against Werder, they're still a French team (i.e. not from a European superpower), and Werder wasn't the strongest of the oposition one could meet in the Round of 16. That leaves us with Inter and PSV. I don't think Inter will make it past Porto for the Quarter finals, and PSV is simply not strong enough, they'll most likely be eliminated by whatever team they meet in the quarter finals, the way I see it.

Now, can anyone tell me when the last time was that we didn't have a single Spanish team in the Quarter Finals, coz I sure can't remember...

Ok, here's how it works:

All nations in Europe has a system of national leagues and (one or more) national cups. Let's take England as an example, since you brought England up. The Major League of England is called The Premier League, it consists of 20 teams, which plays each other twice (for a total 38 matches), and a winner is decided based on who racks up the most points throughout the season (3 points for victory, 1 for a draw). In addition to The Premier League, you have different Minor leagues, but unlike America, where one team stays in one league forever, teams are here moved up and down based on their merit in the previous season (for instance, in the Premier League, the three worst teams in the past season are relegated to the division under the Premier League, which is called by the rather stupid name The Championship (stupid, because whoever wins it isn't actually the English Champions, they're simply only promoted to The Premier League)). In addition to these leagues, you have the Cups. England has many cups, the most important of which is the F.A. Cup. All teams in the division system (i.e. both in the major and minor leagues) enter this cup. It is played on a knock-out system, where you eventually have two teams, playing a final match, for the Cup Championship. In theory, a team from a lower division can win the F.A. Cup, but this almost never happens (simply because the teams in the Premier League after all are the best teams in the nation), Millwall (which plays in The Championship) did manage to make it all the way to the final last year, though.

Now, what does this have to do with the Champions League, you ask? Well, in addition to the national leagues, you have two (well, three, counting the Inter-Toto, but that cup is unimportant and I will not bring it up, fearing it might just be too confusing) Continental Cups, administered by the UEFA (Europe's governing body for football), these are the Champions League and the UEFA Cup. The teams that qualify for the Champions League are the best teams in the top divisions in the different European countries. How many teams that qualify, varies from country to country. A superpower (football-wise) like England has the top 4 teams from the Premier League qualifying for the Champions League, while in a weaker football-nation, like for instance Iceland, only the best team in the nation's top league qualifies for the Champions League. Now, in addition to the Champions League, you have the UEFA Cup. The teams that qualify for the UEFA Cup are the teams that ended in the spots behind the teams that qualified for the Champions League, in addition to the team that won the Cup (also, for England, there's a second cup in addition to the F.A. Cup that qualifies the winner for the UEFA Cup). So while it is big to win the UEFA Cup, it is not as big as winning the Champions League.

The way the Champions League and the UEFA Cup are organized is so that teams first play in a group stage, and then the best teams (two best for the CL, three best for the UEFA) from the different groups meet each other for a knock-out stage, culminating in a final match.

Now, this is the reason Arsenal is scheduled for a match, while they have been knocked out by Bayern Munich. The match Arsenal is scheduled for is in the F.A. Cup, which they are still playing in (they are also playing in the Premier League), while they are knocked out of the Champions League.

And a good site for info on the Champions League is uefa.com. I hope I wasn't too confusing in my explanation.

Well, the draw won't be on Friday, though. It's postponed to the Friday next week, because of Porto/Inter being postponed. Any idea why that is, by the way?

And Toxic, you don't have to feel bad, there was no reason you should have known.

Women are paid less than men, even in the first world, and thus the fight for true gender equality is far from over. hhallahh says that women get lower pay because they take years off to raise children. I don't know about the US, but in Norway, many people and politicians are fighting to change this. People want to give more money to kindergartens, making an incentive to have your child in a kindergarten while you're at work. There's also a petition set up by two politicians at a site called www.pappaperm.no, where you can sign if you want to change the current system, where a woman gets 52 weeks leave from work when she becomes a parent, while a man only gets 4 weeks. The system they propose, is a system where mothers and fathers take one third of the weeks you get off from work each, and leave one third that they can distribute amongst each other as they please. That way, men gain because they are recognized as equally important parents, and women win because their becoming a parent does not mean they have to take a longer leave than when a man becomes a parent.

My sister got that book for Christmas 2003. I found it really funny. The best one is the one where you have the magnet shop and the knife shop and the bunny standing in the middle, waiting for them to open.
