I spent September 11th getting drunk and then going to a Gatas Parlament concert. Gatas is kind of an interesting thing to listen to on that particular day, seeing as how they're an ultra-communist rap group whose latest CD-cover depicts burning American and Israeli flags. Not that I agree with their viewpoint, but their music is neat.

A long, long time ago, during one of the "How do you pronounce Acmlm, I'm probably the first to ask this question, since I'm so original"-threads, I posted a recording of me saying "I pronounce it Acmlm". Unfortunately, the recording is now lost (though I'm pretty sure CodeMaster2k, wherever he is, has it).

12", 1GHz G4, 512MB DDR-RAM, 60GB HD, Apple's Combo Drive, AirPort Extreme Card, Built-in BlueTooth. It's a beauty. Everything I need for my life as a student. Of coruse, it ain't state-of-the-art, but I'm not made of money, either. All in all, I'm happy with my new acquisition. Now, for the next couple'a'days I'll be busy burning all my CDs to iTunes. |

I'm currently studying Political Science (currently taking some non-Political Science courses required to attain a batchelor at a Norwegian University (understanding philosophy and the likes is required) in addition to the Political Science-courses, though).

Maybe the Texas-heat melted the bags, hm? All I know is that they were thin and un-sturdy...

I don't get the hating on the cell-phones. They are good for their uses, and, well, I think it is nice to be available. However, all the trash around the cell-phones, that's what I dislike! All else who hate Jamba, raise your hands! (edited by The SomerZ on 09-20-04 12:37 PM) |

I got my driver's license 3 days ago, actuallly, and I'm 19 (then again, the limit in this country is 18, not 16). It's a great thing, being on the road, alone (I should say "go wherever you want to go", but I wouldn't know how that is, since I don't have my own car). Anyway, good luck on all your driving-tests and all!

Meltdown by Ash is the greatest album of 2004. Heck, it's the greatest album to have come for at least 3 years. Ash's "punkiest" album so far, and their best. Evil Eye, Orpheus, Meltdown, Clones, and Starcrossed are all great songs. The rest also rocks, not a single "dull" moment on the entire album.

I like the Texans and the Chiefs. Figures that when the Texans get their first win of the season, it's against the Chiefs...

Actually, Lenophis, as long as America continiues using the Single-Member District Plurality Voting System, the only two realistic choices will be the Democratic and Republican nominees. Duverger's Law states this. Using a write-in vote to vote for someone else, and encouraging other people to do this, will not change the system (the best you can do is substitute one party with another, for example kick out the Democrats and enter the Greens. However, according to Duverger's Law, the SMDP Voting System ensures two-party states) (and, yes, I know there are exceptions to this law, but they are few and far in between). If you want to be able to cast a realistic vote for someone else than the Democratic or Republican nominee, you have to change the entire way the system of votes are counted. As for the debate, I had my alarm clock set to 3am, woke up, tried to get up from bed and turn on the TV, but fell asleep again, so I didn't get to see it. God damn timezones. |

Just figured I'd make a poll on the European Union, since the "European Week" at the University was initiated this week. A guy I know from my political science class wanted me to go to a Pro-EU seminar to be held tomorrow, and I figured I wanted to know what was the general opinion about the EU on Acmlm's Board. I invite anyone to participate here, both Europeans and Savages (). However, the options in the poll are different, as you can see. For Europeans, it pertains to whether or not you want your country to apply for membership/stay as a member (and your thoughts on the European Monetary Union), while for Non-Europeans, I ask for your thoughts on the EU as it relates to the rest of the world (and especially the US) in power (be it economic or military or whatnot). Anyway, I hope to get a good debate going, especially since this is a subject that interests me a lot, and hopefully it will interest some of you guys, too. I'll come back and state my opinion on the EU later. (*) Alternative 8 is technically impossible, since all new members of the EU must join the EMU.

Originally posted by Emptyeye In the Scandinavian languages, and many other ones, too, a comma is used for decimals, not a period, while a period is used for separating thousands, not a comma. So the correct way of putting "one thousand and three quarters" in a Scandinavian language in numbers would be 1.000,75. This causes confusion sometimes between those used to the other system (such as you), and those used to that system (such as Scandinavians (I also think they use that system in French). Anyway, mine would be: Born: May 23 1985 Died: July 21 2049 The Capital Z Is Finally Lower-Cased |

Originally posted by Arwon How do you mean? As for me, my country, Norway, is European, but not in the EU (the only country in the world to have negotiated a membership agreement with the EU, but never used it). We've had two referendums, the last one in 1994, and the people voted no both times, going against the mainstream opinion of the rest of Europe. I'm happy with the current situation, and if there will be a third referendum (which I doubt will come soon, since the coallition that is likely to win next year's election [Socialists/Labor/Center Party] consists of two parties strongly oposed to the EU [Socialists and Center]) I will vote no, unless someone on the pro-EU side manages to convince me. My reasons for distrusting the EU, aside from my general distrust in globalization, is the lack of any real democracy (the only branch of the EU government directly elected by the people, not the representatives, is the branch with the least power), and the EU's focus on market liberalism. Besides, the Norwegian power is already centralized in Oslo enough as it is. We need to bring power back to the local counties, not take it further away (i.e. to Brussels). As for the EU as it relates to the US, I'm pretty sure the EU will become the world's most dominant power in a few years. We're already seeing a weakening of the dollar's status as the international currency, and I wouldn't be surprised if you soon would see the prices of most international resources listed in Euros in stead of in dollars. I don't know if it is a good thing that the EU grows stronger than the US, though. In one way, it'd be good if someone contested the US's monopolization of power, on the flipside, though, global superpowers are generally all the same. |
