Posted on 09-03-05 12:33 AM, in Should 1ups be abandoned? Link
1ups aren't bad, its just most people put WAAAAY too many of them in one level. That secret in Vanilla Secret 2 where you carry the P-switch back to the beginning and get like 50 1ups was just lame. Typically, now that I have an emulator, I use save states on games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, etc. right before a boss. But in SMW, playing new hacks, I tend to avoid it and play through it properly. If the game is very challenging, and I see a 1up, I would immediately go for it. If the game is easy, and there are waaaay too many 1ups, it's . . . . . pathetic.

I agree with you GP - not 100%, but with most of it. 1ups should be at the end of a hard level as your reward, that most players wouldn't want to play again, and the ghosts houses and stuff should be challenging so that you should just wait until the next ghost house in your path.

Nice ones BMF, but I think you forgot these too

"Help me"

-That's like, the most common one.
OR, my all time favorite . .

"How do you . . "

You're right though, there are a ton of nondescript thread titles. I mean, it is by n00bs and stuff, but there are still kinda annoying . . I prefer reading what the question is in the thread title instead of reading a lecture inside the thread

Yeah gee, thanks for rubbing it in. I made a save state as soon as I started (I did that with every era) but just by some random fluke, the ONE savestate I just HAPPEN to load wasn't in Zeal . . so I basically lost it. I tried using TF to get back, but all the events were already done, so it was really screwed up

WoW. Definitely. GW is boring and overrated in my opinion. You basically HAVE to get the armor in order, and there is very limited armor for your class. In WoW, you can train, and use different weapons types, but in GW, you're limited to what your primary profession gets, because if you're a ranger, and you a 14-27 sword or something, you'll hit for 8 max with it, while with a bow, you would hit in your 40s.

All in all, Guild Wars is a very limited game - very boring - you die all the time (or I do anyway), and the stat penalty is really annoying.

I just got WoW 3 weeks ago, and I have a blast with it. So get WoW, that's just my opinion though

Hm . . might as well put my input in.

I'm pretty low still . . Level 19 Night elf hunter, currently kicking ass in the Barrens . . and . . . yeah . . .all my armor is green, no blue, no white, just green . . doing leatherworking, skill in that is 79, would really like to get it higher. I also do skinning, skill is 81 in that . . . got a pet hyena because unlike the plainstriders, they don't attack everything they see.

Oh, by the way, I play on the Icecrown server, so if you see a character named Nightknife on . . send me a whisper

Awesome . . Awesome job! But I noticed a sprite problem - in Morton's Factory, near the beginning with the conveyors, dry bones, and fireballs, it gets very, very laggy. Better take a few sprites away. That's all I've played so far, and it's been awesome!

EDIT: In Crystal Mine 1, near the very beginning, the ledge is messed up. The left edge doesn't meet the middle - just play that level and look at the edges near the beginning and you'll see what I mean.

EDIT 2: Actually, I noticed all the left edges in that level are like that - you gonna try and fix them?

Argh, I didn't really find a mistake, but that one part in Crystal Mine 2 is way too hard - the one where you have to jump across like 25 green paratroopas. I'm stuck on it since the jumps are waaay to big. I had a savestate thing going there, so you might want to tone it down a bit. Maybe others can beat it, but I really can't

Hmm, I still can't make it past the chain in Crystal Mine 2. It's impossible. There's one part I just can't reach the next Koopa, I land as close to the next one as I can, but I can't reach it. Your level design is great, but the chains aren't. Please, for everyones sake, take them out.

Did anyone else beat Crystal Mine 2?

I doubt anyone will know this . . if you do, I'll love you forever, but does ANYONE know the offsets where the music data is stored in the YI ROM? Gonna finally try to add new music to it, but I need the offsets. If you know, please let me know. Thanks.

How many Parakoopas did you kill before dying? I died after getting 8,000 points from the last paratroopa I killed. Looks like I have to use save states again.

I died after getting about my 9th 1-up from them - theres this one paratroopa i can't cross - I tried at least 150 times by reloading save states, until I just said @#$% it, and gave up.

Wait fabio, I was thinking - couldnt you just save the file to your hard drive, rename it, then upload it, then play it? It would be under a different name, so it would work then.

Couldn't you just go to a page of Map16 that you want to get rid of, and load a page of Map16 over is, then save? That would probably be the easiest way to overwrite them.

What . . the . . . ?

I thought DW: TLC was supposed to *demonstrate how well Lunar Magic can modify SMW?" Erm . . Super Mario Brothers 3 levels are in every hack I've seen so far, . .I guess the one in the cave looks nice, just change the palette of the breakable bricks.

Oh, and on your title screen, the colours of the ghost house crates is terrible, and the background is messed. You better fix them.

Basically what he said - just delete all of Nintendo's events first, then you will be able to make your own. You'll have to delete your custom made paths and remake them though, since they use the same events as Nintendos. Good luck
