That didn't seem to make a difference... it's working now though. Originally posted by neotransotakuBut I don't want all unformatted files to look like that. Now this I just don't get. rewind(file); Somehow, the first fseek() ends up at byte 0 and the second at 0x10. Even stranger is without the rewind(), the first one ends up at byte 2 but the second one at 0x16 like it should. (edited by HyperHacker on 02-13-05 04:24 AM) |

I know I read somewhere that origin was #2, and that did work in another program since I was reading byte 0 anyway. As for the rewind() I was just hoping that would fix it. A small menu-related problem: Using TrackPopupMenu (with the TPM_RETURNCMD and TPM_RIGHTBUTTON flags), sub-menus won't appear until the option is clicked on. Do I need to do that manually or something like that? |

Renaming it to one of the allowed ones will usually do it. If not, try changing the extension to .scr.

That's basically the idea, although the window is actually one big button, so either button opens the menu. I threw in TPM_RIGHTBUTTON because I tend to find myself right-clicking it, so I figured why not? Otherwise, that's exactly how I did it. [edit] Er, just to clarify... The window isn't actually a button, just a normal popup window. It just looks like a button. (edited by HyperHacker on 02-14-05 01:30 PM) |

*watches your P3 blast past my Celery 800mhz, even though mine has 192MB* Mine takes about 3 1/2 minutes to open PS8, but it's good anyway. (As compared to Windows... It used to start up fine but all of a sudden it's added "wait for 5 minutes doing absolutely nothing" to its bootup process. But starting up from Hibernate mode takes like 7 seconds. ) A few programs I simply must have on any Windows install: -Mozilla and Proxomitron: There's links to them in my layout. 'Nuff said. I install these on every computer I intend to use for an extended period of time. -Textpad: This is a frickin awesome text editor. Open multiple documents and switch between them with one click. Spell checking, syntax highlighting, macros, customizeable shortcut keys, and more features than you can shake an MS Word CD at. (Unfortunately the only program on this list that's not free. Buy it anyway.) -AVG: Last virus infection: Long before I installed this baby. -VLC Player: Plays just about any movie you can throw at it, works just like a VCR (if your joypad supports keyboard emulation, you can even use it as a remote ), supports subtitles and multiple audio channels, variable-speed playback with any format, built-in volume control, and playlists. This thing is an anim (edited by HyperHacker on 02-13-05 08:49 PM) |

I wouldn't be at all surprised if your ISP has blocked this somehow. You might be able to get around it by changing the port. (If you do, you'll need to specify the port number when you try to access it, as in 127.0.0.1:31337.) (edited by HyperHacker on 02-13-05 08:52 PM) |

Er, why did you have to change boot.ini to get a replacement bootscreen working? I didn't have to with XP. But yes, Service Packs will generally complain about system files being hacked. (Why they don't just assume it's corrupt and fix it, I don't know... What other OS boots from a file named ntoskrnl.exe on your Windows partition? ) |

If it's just that the game is using that much CPU power, then like I said, that will slow things down. Otherwise check Task Manager to see what programs are using the most (click the 'CPU' header to sort them by that). Ignore 'System Idle Prrocess', this just shows how much is not being used and really shouldn't be there at all. (That is, unless it has a PID other than zero, in which case it's probably a virus.)

If we're going to add it, we should use the version (with a transparent BG of course), it fits better with the others. And yeah, no replacing XD plz. (Maybe X-D, nobody uses that. ) (edited by HyperHacker on 02-13-05 09:18 PM) |

Wait, wait, wait... How did they get them running on a real DS? I didn't think they'd got far enough to get it to download code... (That should make dumping ROMs pretty easy, really... That's how most systems with 'unreadable' formats such as DC and GCN are done.) |

Originally posted by Lenophis In LM's case, it's actually good. If it allowed you to use non-headered ROMs, there would be a lot of patch-related confusion with patches not working because you applied it to the wrong version. Even worse if it just added or removed the header automatically - the user probably wouldn't realize it and make a patch using the un-modified ROM as the original, resulting in the entire ROM being contained in the patch file. (Plus, it's gotta be a lot easier to write. Even if it's just "fseek(file,0x12345,SEEK_SET)" instead of "fseek(file,0x12345 + (0x200 * (int)HeaderPresent),SEEK_SET)", that's still more stuff you have to remember.) In an emulator, none of this applies, because presumably anyone smart enough to make something worthy of making a patch out of with the debugger would be smart enough to use the appropriate ROM as the origin if the emulator had added/removed a header (though you should make sure it tells that it's done so), and it doesn't need to do a bunch of random accesses to various bytes, just read/write the entire ROM into an array. (For that matter, it need not add or remove a header at all unless instructed to. Just skip the first 0x200 bytes when saving/loading the ROM if it has one.) |

If the levels are good, sure. Good level design is the most important feature of a game. Cool ASM hacks and jaw-dropping graphic edits are definetely a nice bonus, but they're not required. Consider the fact that the original game didn't have them, and in many cases was awesome. (Because who hacks sucky games? ) Adding Ninja Mario and Ice Mario to SMB3 is cool, but look how good SMB3 was without them, because it had good levels.

Oooooooooh... Do I have to do something special when creating the bitmap though, or can I just use CreateCompatibleBitmap() and CreateDC() like I usually do?

Well the problem is in one frame there can be tens of thousands of instructions executed. To trace through them at a readable speed (IE one per second, even that's a bit fast) would run so ridiculously slow... You'd be waiting forever any time it hit a wait loop. A display of certain memory addresses during execution would be nice though.

Couldn't you set a Goomba to have the "Can't Be Jumped On" attribute and make it look like a poison mushroom? It wouldn't be entirely like one (not disappearing when you touch it) but pretty close. |
