I've got an idea... A "Report Flame" link, next to "Quote". It sends the post to some kind of PM inbox that all of that forum's mods and the admins can read. Abuse of this system would cause a temp ban. |

Block Tool is a program that allows you to make your own block in ASM and then import it to SMW. If you aren't an ASM hacker, don't worry, since it contains at least 250 pre-programmed blocks. (Can't remember exactly how many)

Dang... Somebody would need to update the header/footer editor with a function that doesn't save it if there's unclosed tables and stuff...

Try moving Mario one block to the left/right. It worked for me when I had the same problem once...

I dunno if this has already been answered, but... Will there be a function to convert MODs/MIDIs to SNES format? I don't think that it would be too hard. |

The level it uses is C5 or C7 (can't remember which one). To edit the movements, close LM, open it again, load the ROM, WAIT! Don't do anything. Type Chelsea (it's case sensitive) and the status bar should show "Chelsea is *really* cute" and the icon would change. Open the OV editor and click on "File" You'll see a new menu. Install the recording ASM. Then, copy the title demo level and make it accesible from the OV. Play that level as you want Mario to move. When you're done, make a savestate (Zsnes only) and go back to LM. Open the new menu again and install the playback ASM. When it wants a file, give it the savestate you just made. Look at the demo. If it looks wrong, record a new demo. IMPORTANT: When you are done and the demo looks like you want it to, you have to uninstall the recording ASM, or else, it would mess up the game when played. |

It's not known very much about sprite hacking, but somebody might (if you're really lucky) have found the byte where the palette number is stored.

As long as the hack is fun to play, no ExGFX is needed, so I say "None". A game doesn't have to look good to make it fun. Look at Super Mario Brothers. The graphics are basicly rotten, even compared to NES's limits (compare SMB and SMB3), but it's still fun to play (heck, it's somewhere around 20 years old, and people still love it). Graphics isn't the most important part of the game. You could even make a hack where everything is squares in different colors, and it could still be fun! FUN, FUN, FUN! That's the most important thing!

Originally posted by blackhole89 Accually, I was just thinking about converting the notes... Nothing else... The existing samples could be used instead of converting the MOD samples / MIDI libraries. By the way... If you want to make it idiot proof, add the following functions: Undo Automatical backup Ability to hear what it will sound like before saving Undo Undo "Are you sure that you would like to save" "Are you sure that you would like to quit without saving? I repeat... CHANGES WILL NOT BE SAVED..." And finally... Undo. |

Well... Only use blocks that fit... You can't make 2 identical corridors, one filled with Mario blocks and one filled with Luigi blocks. That's just lame. Do ONLY use the blocks you REALLY need. Good: Use blocks needed for the level Bad: Use too many in a level Release a hack where you tried out every single block Use a large amount of blocks and belive that you are cool by doing that. Convert SMW to ZZT |

Welcome! My tip is that you mess around with Lunar Magic and test everything. However, there's one thing that you should know. Always, ALWAYS check the Lunar Magic help file before asking something here. Trust me. It will save time for both you and everybody else. (edited by Smallhacker on 06-19-04 11:52 AM) |

Well... I started a thread where you could post such addresses, but the interest died quickly... :/ (Total numbers of collected addresses: 0)

Load a ROM. Add a new block. Choose what block to add in the window that appears. Where you are supposed to enter a number, enter the number of the MAP16 tile you want to add the block to. NOTE: Lunar Magic shows the number in HEX, but Block Tool only supports DEC, so you have to convert it. (If you are using windows, then you could use the built in calculator) Save. But what if the private build is the same thing as the public build, but only with one byte/bit changed or a register value added? Or what if there's no private build...

215? That has to be one of the original blocks... Use another MAP16 page (00 and 01 is the original SMW blocks, 02 is tile specific and 03 and above is normal, empty blocks)

Open the MAP16 window and use page up/page down to scroll. If you start at the top (page 0), press down three times to reach page 03. There, put the mouse over an unused block (4 cyan squares). In the window's status bar, you'll see a hex number. Convert it to dec and use it in block inserter. Now, let's say that you inserted the "Mario Only block". The block you inserted it to won't let Luigi (player 2) pass through it. Now, edit that block in the 16x16 tile editor and make it look like a stone block with a different palettte. Open the add objects window and choose MAP16. Go to page 03 (the 4:th one, since it starts with 00) and click on that block you just edited. Put it on the level and play! |
