not really. your name could be the one with improper spelling, and it's a common name at that. your post is spam. and it's annoying. you slap him and i'll have to slap you, you arrogant presumptious fuck.

wraith: didn't see that before. but kinda interesting. although as HH was getting at, i doubt i'd end up using it should i find myself in a position where i needed to generate genesis code. languages such as this and nbasic (NES Basic language) just aren't as worthwhile as they may at first seem. bloated code, and you'll end up using inline ASM anyway, some things just can't be fully automated... it, to me, just seems like more of a hassle than anything :\

Thus, it's the editor that sets what a hack should have, not the hackers who make them.

well sure, i agree with most of your points dd..but i still beleive editors and such for the most part be a tool of convenience, speed, and efficiency for a hacker. not the sole means used to acheive the desired results. i'd like to think that a hacker could edit/find level data on his own without the extra aid. but i understand that it's almost pointless to edit in plain hex level data when there is a faster and more efficient way.

and a minor tweaking of what you said, possibly/possibly not chaning the meaning:

Thus, it's the editor that sets what a hack is expected to have, not the hackers who make them.

i still don't think that makes it what a hack should have. a hack should only have those elements which increase fun/challenge/etc what-have-you level.

And that's a terrible attitude, which harms the community

i'm sorry, i really hate to be blunt and again, inarticulated, but i must...:

FUCK THE COMMUNITY, and THERE IS NO COMMUNITY

what is this large emphasis on a 'community'??? i don't see a community, i see a bunch of people posting at some message board. i see a loose assosiation of people who happen to enjoy something. if DD produces great hacks, why should anyone else care??

i can't express exactly what i mean, other then to try to view this as a community is just..plain wrong. it doesn't do anybody any good.

like DD said, you hack because you enjoy it. you create something that maybe even others who share your opinion on games might also enjoy. if they do, that's great. if not, then oh well.

how does having a Forum dedicated to a specific topic on some stupid message board validate SMW as having a community?

how do you mean 'no one works alone'??

and more on that, if i understand you: who was DD's partner with MA?

and my only point is don't make something out of something that isn't there.

it's like romhacking groups, there really is no point to them

i'm almost pity you. but seriously, your logic is so far skewed, i feel bad for you. you are in short, way off base. you just don't understand any of it, and i suppose i don't expect you to ever understand half of it. i can only feel sorry for you i suppose

"You don't understand"?

It gets somewhat irritating. I lead DD around for a while, shut him down, the least I'd expect is a "let's agree to disagree", not this "I can't really make any defensible points, but you're an idiot anyways" stuff.

I do not want to get involved in the argument, but I do want to say that hhallahh makes a good point, actually. If a hack has some sort of gimmick, some little 'thing' that someone with knowledge of hacking has ASMed into the game, then it would get far more attention than, say... A level-only hack.

Meanwhile, the hack with no gimmicks or special features or even ExGFX could have the BEST LEVEL DESIGN EVER, and it would get ignored in the wake of the other hack.

but see, you're missing the point. romhacking isn't about what gets more attention, i feel bad for any person that has that view, you're just doing it for the wrong reasons. you make hacks because you enjoy them. not to be popular or to be cool, or to get attention at all. look at translators, they do it for the pure love of the game. if someone else happens to enjoy the translation, cool. if not, oh well, they're satisfied knowing they like what they've done and get enjoyment out of it.

The fact is that there are people who can come up with wonderful and imaginative level design but know absolutely jack-squat about any serious hacking. Things like ASM and even Hex take a remarkable amount of time to learn and many people would rather just *create* something enjoyable without having to do all that.

it's really not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. once you get used to it, like everything in life, it's nice

doesn't that seem a bit too much of a round-a-bout way of doing it? why not just grab one of the thousands of documents explaning in simple terms the base 16 numbering system?

but whatever d00d

...an maybe someone can create a patch for the 5 letter thing...but then again, maybe not. maybe if people can't take the time to learn a new numbering system...they shouldn't be hacking? :\

Er, that reminds me, I know Lunarcompress has support of graphics in lufia 2, but do you suppose it would use a seperate format for maps, or most likely the same compression as for the graphics?

Edit: Forget I suggested anything, k?

SMW with Craziness is probably the stupidest idea I've heard yet.

At most I think the SMB+FF[+GENGAMING?] could be merged... neither gets that much activity

Of course leaving them alone's probably a better idea =_=

please learn to sense and appreciate sarcasm.

please don't nitpick grammer. that's annoying. blatant mispellings i understand.\

and yes, as you said, leaving them along is most likely best.

The thing is I'd find a hack of ANY of those games enjoyable SMW and SMB3 are childhood favorites and I REALLY enjoy FF1, (I like FF3j better but it's not editable enough yet to make a good hack from) thts why I made this topic. Each I'd enjoy hacking and the outcome the same.

haha, fair enough.

oh, and what you said about FF3j... that's not entirely accurate. not much as of now, but i've got the Enemy Editor made. Although my FF3j projects are currently on the backburner, the Map editor is technically 'still in developement' as are the rest of the tools i've been cooking up. Other things have just taken priority, not by any grand design, but by chance and cirumstance

Then again...

i really doubt there are enough of both of each to warrent their own sections.

the last set of editors released was when every lame ass person posted fake editors [like 2,000 times after Proto K's original (and at the time) funny thread. just a shame that people took that joke and beat it to the ground :\]
