looking great Frenzied!

hey man, check your e-mail, i've been trying to get a hold of you recently... i might be wanting new source for Sniper Hex... i'm working on giving you a few new fun "features" for your editor

my internet is still down, so i'll get back to you as soon as i can and give you a build of what i've got (based on your old source though, so i may need the new for updates)

talk to you,
Gavin.

Weasel: not hacking, just finageling within the rules. if they're not smart enough to disable certain loopholes, then it's their own fault. besides, as long as he does nothing malicous...my guess is he just wants to play a game or something..which i think he should be allowed to do if he has free time. i see enough douche-bags just looking at car parts every day during school, how is that worse than a game or another website that is not a school activity?

you may be talking about a little trick where you switch the name of an application that is okay under your current restriction settings to run, into the name of another application.

like this:

wordpad.exe is okay to run.
change game.exe to wordpad.exe
move it into the wordpad.exe folder.

and then you're in business, no?

if your administrators are specifically stupid there are a few other things you can find to do, like if they allow you to create shortcuts, as they do at my retarded school . repoint everything to the temp folder, not a damn thing they can do about me moving and running files...

well, Damian Yerrick has got some really cool stuff. He's got source to all his projects, but your going to have a hella hard time deciphering it i'm guessing It's in his newest game that he reads a sound effect from a .wav file: Tetramnio, a tetris-like game. linkage: http://www.pineight.com/nes/

i'm fairly certain VN has experimented with it as well, or at least maybe he had an example of someone else experimenting with it..

but in short, yes it most certainly is possible. i'd say it's not a beginners programming project by any means..

but for your futher research:

http://gavin.panicus.org/downloads/dmc.txt

i really wish i could help you more.. in fact, i know i at one point had a copy of a PCM test that VN made a long while ago, i have the .ASM file and the .NES file still, but i'm missin the main component..the .raw file that has the sound to compile . besides, i never asked him if i could hand it out..

you're best bet is to ask him. sorry

scroll down "Visual Basic Sources/Resources" and at the bottom you'll see "BitBlt Sample". a long while ago when i was first trying to figure out how to make an editor, TFG showed me this nice little example using the BitBlt API.

If i understood what you said correctly, this should be what you're looking for?

yep yep.

and coby:

For y = 0 To 16
For x = 0 To 16

BitBlt picMap.hdc, x * 16, y * 16, 16, 16, picWhatever.hdc, 0, 0, vbSrcCopy
Next x
Next y

that was more like what you actally asked for. i just had on hand the mouse example, since i know that's also probably what you need, and you could've probably figured this out anyway. but you'd want to put in, of course as you were saying, some sort code to load from an array and display whichever graphic the data pointed to

but how you do that really all depends on how you're setting up your program. but if you have any more questions...by all means

a few months back i had begun working the shape of a basic level editor in VB for FF3j, and after some 'events' i ended up majorly slacking in anything programming/hacking related.

i'm glad to say that i've finall begun work on my editor, and i've taken the basic shell i had previously created and am currently molding it to work with Binary Land NES. here are a few screenshots so far:

as you maybe able to see, level loading is not fully implimented just yet. i'm still working around a few minor obstacles

pallette editing is completely..well, complete for the most part. I just need to add a few more options, find a few more object's/level's pal data and it's set. but it currently is able to load and save the data i've already added

tile editing/tsa editing is almost complete. the program can currently load, edit, and save all tile data. the basic TSA structure is in place, now i need to add the games actual tsa data to the program, heh.

that's about all i have to show for now. if anyone has any Binary Land data they'd like to send my way, any and all help would be much appreciated. or any other suggesttions/comments for that matter on feature to impliment, or anything at all.

thanks,
later.

haw, yes i did indeed.

i can't remember which .pal file it initialy loads, but i think it's from Chris Covell.

i've added an option to load any external .pal file, just to make everyone happy , i just forgot to mention that in the post

well sir, there may be you're problem

i don't think you want it to be as a string at any point in your program. you should load it right from the start into a byte array. let me demonstrate:

Private Tiledata() as Byte
------------------------------------------------------

Open FileName For Binary As #1
ReDim Tiledata(LOF(1) - 1)
Get #1, , Tiledata
Close #1

that should nicely, neatly, and quickly load the entire file into an array of bytes. the array is redimensioned to be the length of the file that is opened. so there yah go, hope that helps too

well not too much really. there are always stupid people in the world, it's a fact. there will always be a bunch of idiots on some lame board posting idiotic stuffs.

that doesn't mean you have to like it or accept it.

and espeically i just don't understand why here . but then on the other side of the coin i ask myself, why do i come here..? no idea. *gavin shrugs*

well that sucks for you if you can't do it, it's how everyone else started. before i learned 6502 ASM i had learned to draw dots on the screen in QBasic using Pset....

really, all you need to do is have some determination

you're fucking retared, that's what romhacking is

otherwise you're just another person on a computer using an application. which i'm sorry to say almost all of you are. to call yourselves hackers...well, that's a stretch.

you're just lucky to have quality people like Fusoya and BMF and the other handful of people who dont suck :p

I never said that people who used these programs were hackers, if you bothered to read my post. I called them "designers" (I might've slipped once or twice, but for the most part I didn't.) Design is what's ultimately important to a hack (and it's still a hack, even if the creator isn't a hacker.)

No one should be cared to be called a "hacker" when it comes to creating a final product, because it doesn't really matter at all HOW you made that product.

Get it straight, then take another pass at me if you wish.

haha, no thanks it's cool

you made a valid point and i was wrong. well then, my comment not being directed at you goes for anyone else who mistakenly calls himself a hacker.
