I suppose a general introduction for myself would be nice. My name is Chris, or phadedlife, whatever you feel is more appropriate. I've been a programmer for several years in various languages, as well as a graphic designer. I'm currently employed as a system tech for a local ISP.

So here's my idea:

I was thinking of developing a program that would allow seemless peer to peer sharing of ROMs, and the ability to play them easily with other users. To start with this, I would include SNES, NES, and Genesis. I would like to include a friends list, possibly some kind of ranking system later on.

So in order to start this project, I turn to you guys (The best forum I could find for emulation, not to mention a lot of other things). I had a few questions, maybe you guys could help.

This idea has been in my head for an eternity. I was planning on keeping it to myself to make money, but I figured it would be better to at least get the idea out in case I never get around to working on something this cool.

-----------

To start this project, I would need to acquire free open source (preferably C++ but others can be worked with) emulators. This is preferred over starting a completely new engine because that would be an incredibly time consuming project to work on 3 emulators as well as a peer to peer gaming network at the same time. So my question, is anyone aware of other open source emulators (Currently I have the source for SNES9x).?

I would need a few coders to start the project. A diverse group would be good, as so we can all help each other out.

A test server will be needed. Currently I'm too broke to afford my own server, so until I can get the funding a donation would be appreciated once the software is in beta.

Beta testers!

A whitehat hacker or two to test the stability and security of the software.

I'm sure there are plenty of other positions that would need to be filled of course. Eventually we could get advertising on the software to pay for server costs. I'd like this to be a free service but if this program exploads we may have to fall back on donations.

What are your thoughts? I'm really interested in starting this project soon, so let me know. I could probably even get a website up for it within a few days.

Best regards.

Greetings all,

I introduced myself in another thread regarding software I plan on coding, but here goes again:

My name's Chris. I'm a System tech for a local ISP, a coder, and a graphic designer. I've been in the computer field for about 8 years now, and love computers to death. I'm 21, love to drink, love games, love my girl, love skating, and much more. If anyone needs any graphics work or help with coding/system work hit me up some time!

Since you said you don't know much coding, and you are broke, try learning to use DarkBasic. It's a simple to learn language (It's called DarkBasic, come on) that exports 3D using DirectX. It puts a gay 'free trial' on your programs that you compile, but I'm sure if you have no soul you could find a crack for the software...

But there's another idea, get the DirectX SDK.

Anyone interested in a battle? Perhaps we could do a forum wide thing where everyone can contribute?

I appologize, I was unaware there was a battle forum. Close the thread if you please, I'll post something a little more elaborate in the battle forum.

Probably because Microsoft products are terrible.

I'm doubting the ROMs will be coming out via common formats. They will probably need to be purchased through some online system through the console itself. The only chance you'll have most likely is either:

a.) the expansion slot I heard someone say it has
b.) modding the console and downloading the roms off a site onto the system.

either way it's going to happen, so no worries. once the system is released it's only a matter of time

Did you ever use Gamespy Arcade? Or mPlayer.com? Possibly Heat.net? It will be a gaming network where you can play the roms online as well as openly share them with whoever you would want to.

I'm looking for whatever help anyone can spare, so if you're interested please e-mail me.
