The reason for SPC being better than MIDI is basically that SPC is more "low-level". In MIDI you can only say, "output tone at volume 123 on channel 456 and pitch D7", while in SPC you can change all of the channel's parametres except for the instrument selection even while a tone aka sample is still playing. SPC, therefore, is much closer to WAV; in fact, you could even use it to output real waveform (by making a "zero" instrument and quickly changing its volume). And, most SPC instruments sound better than their MIDI pendants.

That's a bit funnier. You have this question sign out of used blocks in the fake last level. Get the hidden feather from the question sign's inner (which is filled with black FG blocks) and fly through the false ceiling on the very left or right of the screen to reach another room, now featuring an exclamation sign out of brown blocks. It should be holding key and keyhole, leading you to a SMB2 retro level with BMF-blobs as enemies.

Well, I know the rank set question ("can we have more of them") came up some times in the not too distant past... but I have a serious (more or less, that is) suggestion for a new rankset I would do if (a) there is some interest in the community and (b) there is a chance that it will be accepted by the admins, that means, I won't do it if you (admins) say, "We don't need any further rank sets. Off you go" or something like that.
So here's an example (that is, I would place it for 20..30 posts):

Ok, then I'll start working

The white BG is fixed now. The reason for this was that I only could preview the images on the win explorer's white background before I posted, so I missed out that the BG was white and not transparent in one frame...

Terranigma is a big game, so I don't think I'll run short on sprites.

You make a set of animated GIFs, make some good names for them, invent some good post count constraints and send that all to an administrator, preferably Acmlm... at least I think so.
Btw, I could also do an SD3 rankset... but only when I'm done with this one.

@KATW: You've missed something... seriously... if you want, I can post an IPS that makes SMW to Terranigma. (I think this is legal )

@DarkSlaya, there are lots of games with good sprites... try Illusion of Gaia, Lufia II or FFVI.

@Surlent, imho these could fit for the very high ranks (3k and more).

@Acmlm, is there any format I should have the rank names / image filenames / post counts in in order to reduce the amount of work required to install it? I don't have a copy of the board *sighs*, so I don't know how the rank sets work...
...and yes, the main problem about Terranigma is that the enemies don't grow proportionally to their strength. That means, the second weakest enemy in the game is the second or third largest of the regular enemies (it's about 32x48 in size), while the third weakest is a red variant of the 16x16 sized "Hubball" (kinda reminds me of L. Ron Hubbard ^^ aka "Dianetics. The key to resurrecting Beruga.") I've already shown in my first post.

A new overworld part. Overworld GFX editing is "in" now (as for 07-26-04), and I thought I could do that too...


A new castle. Although I have to admit this is more kinda palette test...

W00t! This is, graphically, among the best hacks I've ever seen, seriously... and, although I know some people will hate me for that, I must admit I like the red mist.
The only thing I have to bother about is the overworld. The colours are to weak, it looks like on an old dusty photo that was in the sun for a too long while.

Seriously, can't wait for the next demo

They are. When you come close to them or shoot them, they fall down and break into many ice shards with a sound like breaking glass. And the manual calls them icicles, too.

What you could do is,
(1) add some shading to the fence logs. That is, darken the rightmost pixel column (ignoring the black border, of course) of every log.
(2) add some perspective, or, at least, depht angle to the ground. Atma X also is doing a 3D-ish SMW hack (I made the HDMA stuff and some stuff concerning the pipes), just take a glance at his shots. As for the fish name, if you want to keep up the mario line, I believe it is called Cheep-cheep (as seen on _this_ board's Mario rankset)...

For me, all except for that candy forest looks good. And I don't see any "warping"... I could rip all of these BGs from the screenshots into SMW levels within half an hour (per BG)...

3. All the shots are warped 2-5 pixels in 8 possible directions. Its really noticible on some if you look at the test. I guess they would still be possible to copy, but DONT!!!

Oh that's why I didn't like that candy stuff forest... I thought this belongs to the bit depht reduction (error diffusion or whatsoever)... well, if it is so, I would have to have another look at them when they aren't warped anymore before I could make a judgement.

I, personally, use YY-CHR for editing / making GFX myself and MrClick's TileEd for graphics import. That's the only one that works for me, as the only thing TLP does for me is displaying the "imported" graphics as w00t drag-and-droppable objects that neither fit in bit depht nor in scaling.
