The 90s is pretty much 2 different eras divided into the early and latter parts of the decade.

"Back then" the top 40 charts were actually enjoyable. I can't say the same today.

It might be the IPS patcher you're using... Or your ROM. This doesn't occur for you in vanilla SMW, right?

Posted on 07-15-05 05:49 PM, in Game Designers: Information Needed Link
Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but recently an interview with a well known designer was posted which will hopefully be very helpful to you:
http://www.gamer-girl.org/features/avelloneint2.html

"First off, if you're interested in story and world creation, I would recommend trying to get established in the pen-and-paper game industry or in books or novels - game design requires a love of game mechanics, lists, and tons upon tons of rule sets."

"when not actually arguing and throwing feces at each other through our cage bars, a large portion of a game designer's job is design documentation or writing 5000 emails. That means you need good technical writing skills and an ability to organize your thoughts. You need to be able to pass a document off to audio, QA, marketing, the programming staff, and an artist, and they should be able to find out whatever information they need just by looking at the document."

"If you're looking for college classes to take, I'd suggest some programming courses and creative writing courses, maybe a little bit of art, and any classes that deal with interface design or layout for computer programs. Learn how to write critically and technically, and become familiar with Microsoft Word. Programming classes are a bonus because it helps designers understand how computers

I have this game, and indeed it's one of the best shooters on the planet. I love PC-style shooters, since they usualyl (If not always) allow you to buy upgrades and customize your ships. I almost never see this in console shooters.

The graphics are pre-rendered 3D (ie 2D) sprites with some flashy particle effects thrown in. It should run just fine on some older computers.

While we're on the topic, 3D Realms recently released their 1996 shooter Stargunner as freeware. You can get it from www.3drealms.com

Now all I need is Raptor and Death Rally...

You can get worthwhile video cards for a good price. A GF4MX shouldn't be more than $45 by now, and it's perfect for games like these and all pre-2004 PC games.

This is a good step towards change. Retailers who will not accept AO-rated games need to fucking wake up and realize video games are not just for kids anymore.

The "war" on terrorism is about as effective as that old "war" on drugs.

Haven't played it, but maybe it could be possible that those stages were removed from the SNES version due to size restrictions.

This doesn't really have anything to do with emulation.

Keep an eye out for New Super Mario Bros. for DS, classic Mario platformer with simultaneous wi-fi 2 player support.

Racism is probably still as common as it was 50-60 years ago, it's just that most people will not admit it as it's not politically correct. The main problem is how most of us grow up separated from different ethnical groups, which just adds to the "us and them" issue.

I'm not going to let something like nostalgia cloud my judgment on older games, it is completely irrelevant to their quality. Everything was more fun when you were 6 years old.

Computers can already compose music from scratch without any references, using randomized scripts guided by a few 'laws' from human music theory.
