Hi all, I'm just a newbie here making a hack for my own amusement, in Lunar Magic.

Now I've got this strange problem. I've got a fortress on the Yoshi's Island submap. It's Level 1D, Appears on Event 1, and Gives event 2 when finished. It has a destroy tile event, and is destroyed on event 2. No other destroy events do event 2.

However, when I finish Level 109, in the Special world Submap, through a regular exit, it destroys the fortress, even though when finished it gives event 24.

Any help?

Hmm, I've created an IPS patch of what I've created so far. Is there somewhere I can temporarily put it?

No, I use Snes9X mac, strangely enough. (I'm emulating windows, to do the editing, or using my brother's PC).

Edit: Found somewhere to put it:
http://venus.walagata.com/w/xenesis/XENSHACK.zip

The levels aren't done at all, I've just added exits to most of them to test paths and the map and the like.

Whoa. That makes me wish the original Metroid looked like that. Damn, that looks fantastic!

*watches with eagle eyes*

Are you going to improve the enemy sprites as well? Because they well and truly need a remake.

Heck, bar not having a background, that stuff looks like early SNES.

I have to say, the green section of that new door looks rather odd. The black bits make it look like it's a series of vertical stripes, rather than a tubular look.

The new enemy sprite looks interesting though.

being a fellow mac user, I'll say this. It's far, far simpler to find a copy of windows 95 and a windows emulator than waiting for a mac port of any hacking utilities.

And provided that you've got something better than a G3 600 Mhz or something and some RAM to burn, it should be fine.

A tip though, use Mac Os Native emulators to test.

A GSC Remake, in Advance....that is the most awesome news I've heard in a while.

I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

Are you going to use the RTC to make day/night/morning like the games of old? (And consequentially fix the Umbreon/Espeon evolve times, as well as having timely pokemon capture?)

As far as catchable pokemon go, are you going to make it versionalised like GSC, or are you going to make them all avalible?

Are you going to follow GS or C's story, and if you do follow C's story, do you plan to make Celebi catchable?

Finally, am I going to be able to flash this hack to my flashcart and trade with my other advance games?

*is giddy with excitement*

Excellent. That sounds quite cool so far. Damnit...I'm going to have no space on my flashcart left.

Hmm, just a curiousity, but doesn't Fire Red have no Realtime Clock support? I thought only Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald had it. Regardless, that's not too much of an issue, if it does.

Now for some more questions...

Will the GSC TMs make an appearance as Move Tutors of sorts, or are you going to restore all the GSC TMs into the game?

Will pokemon have new move learnsets?

Are you going to make breeding a more time efficient process by giving us the Acro Bike of RuSa, and some nice routes to go blazingly fast down? (Like Saffron in the Original GSC, springs to mind)

Are we going to see the original music (I know some of it is used in fire red, but not all of it is there)?

Is the difficulty going to be around the same as GSC, or harder/easier?

Well, I'm questioned out for now. *awaits eagerly*

Excellent...I'm a tad dissapointed about the bike (Fire red's is WAAY too slow in my opinion), but nothing I can do.

Yet more questions! (God, I'm turning into a journalist!)

Will the pokegear return? Like, all of the functions, Clock, Radio, Trainer Phone Numbers? And if it does, will Buena's Radio Show return? That was cool.

Also, are you going to recreate some of the custom balls that didn't make it into Advance? (Love Ball, Heavy Ball, Speed Ball, Lure Ball, Level Ball..etc)

You alluded to having FrLg style extra islands to visit? What kind of place is it going to be? Or am I just going to have to wait? :p

Do we get to visit Birth Island, or World's Edge Island? (Deoxys and Mew's islands, respectively).

Are the pokemon entrances into battle going to be animated like Crystal, or stationary like every other pokemon game? (I prefer the latter, personally).

Do we get a beefed up second run of the Elite Four, like in FrLg?

Well, that's me done for now. (Don't mind me, I'm a curious little critter! )

Based of Hokkaido? Awesome! Snowy Winter wonderland ahoy! As for the other regions, I'm pretty sure Kanto is based off, well Kanto. Johto seems to remind me of Kansai, what with all the temples and mountains and caves and all, but I really wouldn't have the slightest idea of where Hoenn is based on. The Sevii islands are probably based off the Okinawa island chain, yeah?

Graah. Damnit..now I want some okonomiyaki. :p...Mmmm.

As for the return of the pokeballs, what are you going to do about when those pokemon are traded? As you know the pokemon display what kind of ball they were caught in...so yeah...that may cause issues in trading. Oh well, having the return of the acorns is awesome anyway.

As for the Mew/Deoxys islands, that's about what I expected. *goes off to figure out how to hack himself a Emerald cartridge to make mew Catchable easily...*, but Still Celebi is cool. (It's the ONLY pokemon I never managed to obtain legitly in the GSC generation..sigh)

And, updated still portraits are more important than the animations, sounds cool. What are you going to see after the 22nd ultraball you've thrown at that Lugia?

Mm..new radio shows! Sounds great.

Hi, I'm just fiddling around with this and learning how to use it, and I've got a question or two on the event scripts. Basically, what i'm trying to do is make Magus lead party character at the start of the game.

So, I figured, I'd use a Modify Party Command, to Add Magus to my party. But the bit I'm at a loss at is how I can set him to first party member, as Crono refuses to budge. I know there's some event in his death scene that sets it so other characters can be in the lead, but in looking through everything there, I haven't the slightest idea of what to use.

I basically want to set Magus as an 'irremovable' party leader, like chrono most game and Robo when you enter Geno Dome.

The other thing I need to do is learn how to get the sprite loading to work, do you just use the Load Sprite command? Can someone give me a short rundown on how it works (I've been reading through the actual events of the game, but most of it goes over my head) I want it a bit more sensical than Magus appearing on the map once I leave a house.

Thanks for any help.

Okay, I can get the sprite appearing and party change to work properly, so I've now got a party consisting of magus. The problem I face now, is that I can't move him. It just continues with the sprite commands that I've set for him when he's not in the party.

Here's what I've got so far, as a sprite in Crono's Kitchen:

-Startup
LoadPC Magus
Setobject Coord: (xxx,yyy)
Return
(1)Movesprite (xx,yy)
Pause 3
Movesprite (xx2,yy2)
Pause 3
Goto 1

-Activate
Return

-Arbitrary0
Textbox Personal ("")
PartyManip Crono Remove Active
PartyManip Magus AddActive
Return

So, that's my script. Basically what happens, is that I bump into the wandering magus sprite, I lose control of Crono and Magus continues wandering merrily back and forth along the screen, as he's the leader of my party..I can't actually do anything. Also, if I go into the menu, and go back out, Crono's sprite dissapears.

Basically, how can I fix it so that I can control the character after? And also, how can I set it up so that Magus responds when I talk to him, rather than just bumping into him?

Thirdly, I haven't the slightest idea how to use the strings dialog. I can't seem to figure out how to add new strings, save them, and then get the textbox script command to use a string from a particular bank (I only seem to have a choice of one bank..)

Thanks for your previous help too.

Nope. having had a look through some other events where a character change happens, I have no flipping idea.

I've checked out the End of Time events too, and had a fiddle with some of the variables that it provides, but it didn't help me one iota (apart from making Magus swish his cape, but still).

Gaah..this is too frustrating and difficult for me to understand.

Hi all.

I'm interested in hacking this game, to produce a CO Balance hack, as quite frankly a lot of the COs in the game need tweaks to their abilities and there's a few that are grossly unbalanced. I would be editing things like power star costs, unit offence and defence abilties and the like. Modifying a few numbers.

I also intend to replace the AW2 Sturm Sprite with the AW1 one, so I probably need to know if it's easily doable.

Having read a few of threads around, I figured that Zero corrupting would be a good place to start, but before I do, I was wondering if anyone has any helpful information on the game in particular, plus any pitfalls I should watch out for, merely being a newbie hacker.

My eventual aim would be to make a CO editor, mainly for the large Custom CO community that I'm part of...to actually make CCOs are reality. But that's just a pipe dream for now.

Thanks all.

Well, after having a poke with a hex editor, I found pretty well all the game's text completely uncompressed. Not to mention 16megabits of wasted space. Yay!

Now, at least that'll be simple to edit.

Okay, there's a HELL of a lot of patterning and zeroes in the bulk of the rom. It scares me.

Edit Again:
Yeah, the text hacking is really simple.

Yet another edit: Yeah...you guys are supremely unhelpful, No one wants to comment or anything?

Hmm..well, as I guess I suspected, there's a whole mishmash of graphics all over the rom.

They're everywhere, and editing them with YY-CHR doesn't seem to be having any noticable effect in game, any ideas? Maybe there's a compressed repeat of the graphics stored elsewhere..I don't know.

Question: How difficult is it to look and see if and where compressed graphics are contained in a GBA rom? If it's too difficult, I'll probably give up on that for now..

Secondly, I'm not having very much success in finding any CO stats. It's very difficult when you don't have any preset numbers on which to go on (All of them are only known as percentage increases/decreases)..anyone got any ideas on how I could find these quicker?

Edit: Geez, can't you guys say ANYTHING? I come asking for help and I'm summarily ignored. Thanks a lot guys....

Hi, I'm moving to TM from YY-CHR, and I'm kind of stuck..

all these codec things confuse me...how do I set it up to view 4bpp and 8bpp GBA properly?

Thankyou for any help.

Edit: I've figured out the 4bpp GBA....
Edit: *gives up and uses TilEd2002 instead*

Well, the game I'm interested in is Advance Wars 2. I can find the 4bpp graphics and edit them easily enough, although the palette thing is screwing me around a bit.

I'm pretty sure that there's some compressed graphics in there, which would really be a pain in the arse. But help is useful anyhow.

As a curio, how does one edit Compressed Graphics? ASM?

Thanks.

I may take a peek at it and eventually make an enemy editor or something ( I like making enemy stat editors ).

It may be quite a ways a way though, I'm in the middle of a Secret of Mana enemy stat editor.

I really should play Soul Blazer and Terranigma though, I've heard they are pretty good.

IoG is the worst in that series. Not to say its bad, though... but if you like it, you'll love the other two... then again, its not like the series is connected. It's kind of even less strung together than FF series. Almost no relation at all between games.

Bah. IoG is easily the best of the three. I liked soulblazer and I hated Terranigma. So, I'd say playing Soulblazer is worth a shot at the least.

Thanks. That'll take a while for me to digest and learn how to use, so I might postpone looking for compressed graphics until after exams.

Well, back to trying to figure out where the hell those CO stats are and how they work.

Edit:

Excuse me while I HUG unLz. That thing kicks so much arse. So much so that I managed to do this: (replaces Flak)

It's related to a fun project I'm doing, but YES!

Take THAT Advance Wars 2. I'm now 3 metres up Everest.
