Please, try to use more than one word per post..."Pa-lete?" doesn't really say much, now, does it?

The palette is the set of colors any given sprite or background tile uses. You have to load the correct palette when editing tiles, otherwise they'll look totally wrong when you insert them back into the ROM.

Well, I found a little bit of data. This only changes the map tile in RAM (i.e. what physically affects Mario's movement); the lock will still disappear from its original location. The VRAM updating code must be stored elsewhere. The changed map tile will also return to its original location when the map is reloaded, though I think I've found the code that handles that as well.

Each of the following tables are 17 bytes in size (17 locks in the game?):

$14855: Y location
$14866: Upper 4 bits: X location, lower 4 bits: screen number?
$14877: Tile to replace lock with

Another location worth checking out is 0x18593 ($A583). This is where a write to $6144 (the first lock in the game) occured while the map was reloading (the lock was already destroyed). When the breakpoint hit, A contained the tile number to replace the lock with (#$46), Y and $04 contained the lock's location (#$44), and $63 contained the RAM address of the current map page ($6100).

That's all for tonight. Sleep now.

I'm with Juggling Joker here, though I think I have a few less fully-completed levels...

There are already two editors available. Whatever they don't do when used in tandem can be done relatively easily with a hex editor, provided you have the correct data. I would say don't bother making a new one, unless you're really bored, or have a grand vision you fully intend to see through to completion (like FuSoYa and LM).

Has anyone asked Acmlm for the source code to the SMB3 Discombobulator? Maybe that one could be expanded upon and enhanced, since the basic framework and a lot of functionality are already there...

Mmmyep, ALL the time. Especially when I have to get up really early the next day. I love being nocturnal!

I recall staying up until 6:00 or 6:30 some nights, working on absolutely nothing. I broke out of that habit, thanks to a schedule change at work, but it wasn't easy...

Posted on 05-11-04 11:06 AM, in *ahem* I hate blackouts. Link
Blackouts are especially bad for me, since my older main computer has trouble turning back on if you leave it off for more than a few minutes. I have to leave it on all the time as a result. I'm afraid one of these days, it won't turn back on at all, and I'll be semi-screwed...and I can't afford a decent UPS...

Last time we had a blackout here (a few days ago, for no apparent reason), I was getting ready for work. I had to take my electric razor to work with me.

The status bar starts at $E81. The large numbers (used in the bonus star display) are right before that, at $E59.

Smallhacker's info is mostly right, except the X and Y flip bits are swapped, and the "unknown" bits are the upper two bits of the tile number (you need these if you want to access the second page of 2bpp tiles).

Ew...that's a bit trickier. It involves ASM hacking.

I can't even remember exactly where that code is located. Hrm...

I think the best solution to the title screen problem is to make one that has almost nothing to do with the game itself. See, with mine, you have no idea what to expect, aside from maybe space travel.

Oh, yeah...the title screen music byte is at $18C7.

I slept on the living room couch for months at a time because I'd wake up in the middle of the night, breathless, terrified of some invisible force enveloping my bed like a thick cloud. As soon as I sprinted up the stairs into the dining room, I'd feel normal again. I swear to God there are demons inhabiting this room.

I only drink soda at work or when I'm eating out. When I'm at home, it's always iced tea, milk, or water (generally, water in the morning, iced tea during the day, and milk at night). Iced tea > j00, and organic milk > *.

I want to start a campaign to get the right Shift key moved away from the Enter key. I don't know how many times I've accidentally entered something in mIRC because I mis-Shifted...

I would also like to get the Windows and...menu-thingy keys replaced with something infinitely more useful. Honestly, who uses those?

As for Scroll Lock, it's used by some KVM switches (mine) to switch between computers, since it's without a doubt the least-often used key. They might as well start giving it a different name, like maybe F13 or something.

My "solution" to that problem was to disable scrolling with L and R entirely. The feature caused problems in a few areas, and I needed the buttons anyway.

Bleh, that happens to me, too, especially when I'm sick. Really creepy.

I used to be able to do this all the time as a kid without problems, but if I fall asleep with a light on now, I tend to wake up a couple hours later with some kind of weird "amnesia"...I won't remember any dreams, or anything that happened before I fell asleep, and it'll feel like I suddenly "popped into existence." I remember a couple of specific times this happened, and even now, I don't remember what I was doing the night before. They're just isolated memories...
